@@FlakkerDPS a society that acts precisely as it does in a work of fiction...still I'm typing on youtube...nobody is rising up we're all just living our bubble lives.
I give it 100%, as a perfect example of its type. Agreed. When you think about it, Heath Ledger’s Joker was THE Joker: a cypher with a constantly changing backstory. We don’t know where he came from or what made him insane, and that’s one of the things that made him such a great super villain; the antithesis of Batman. We understand Batman, we know his back story, in depth and detail, and we understand why he does what he does. The Joker is the opposite of Batman, in spirit and intentionally, because he’s the antidote to Batman; his greatest antagonist. We can’t understand his desire for chaos, which is one of the things that makes him so scary, and which was explored so brilliantly in Nolan’s vision of him, as an Uber-Terrorist, who’s very existence is a counterpunch in Batman’s face; simply existing to love everything that Batman hates, but even the Joker understands that he’s nothing without Batman’s Yang to his Yin. The Joker needs Batman, and tells him so. “You complete me,” he says, referencing Jerry McGuire. And, Ledger, I’m convinced, would have won the Oscar for his masterful performance, had he lived, regardless. No one thought there would ever be another, or that it could be, or should be, topped. So, to take on the Joker’s backstory, and answer the very mystery that makes Joker who and what he is, was beyond dangerous! It was not just bold, straying into taboo territory, it was downright heroic! The accusations of hubris and stupidity that would have been levelled at the director, DC and at the star, had this movie failed, would have potentially ruined careers, including that of Phoenix, who had by that point, already danced on the edge of the precipice with some of his choices. Especially, that documentary that no one comprehended, and which alienated so many people on talk shows? Yet, not only did they DARE to tell us how the Joker came to be, defying the critics, which were already legion before the movie came out, but they also refused to compromise the vision of Joker in the teeth of so much ill-informed, un-thought-out, anti-violence opposition. All this, at a time when the DC universe was on its knees, desperate for a win! The epic failures of their flagship enterprises; the Justice League and the Superman V Batman battle, which had been teased so long ago in a Will Smith vehicle about vampires, had made even the most loyal fans sceptical at best, and downright hostile in most cases. But, this all wound up making the TRIUMPH that is Joker, all the sweeter for everyone involved in that project; from the writers, director and stars, to the key grip and Dolly guy! Every single one of them can now roll up their sleeves, show off their scars and say, “I won these scars at the Battle of The Joker SJW’s,” with pride! And people will remove their hats, shake their hands, buy them a drink and say, “Thank you for your service.” Because we now have one of the greatest movies in the DC cannon (only rivalled by The Dark Knight) and one of the greatest psychological thrillers ever made! A masterpiece, with a story of suffering behind it, like all great masterpieces should have. One of the best movies in anyone’s collection; up there with North By Northwest, Alien, Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, Cyrano De Bergerac, It’s a Wonderful Life, Jaws, Duel, the first Planet of The Apes, The Big Country, True Grit, The Searchers, Metropolis, Dirty Harry, Unforgiven, West World (the movie), Some Like It Hot, Singin’ In The Rain and, as you can tell by now, I could list SO MANY more. But, Joker is right up there with that lot, and it’s obvious inspiration, Taxi Driver. True Art, is not yet dead in Hollywood. Joker is your proof ✌️👍
@@rsgblue5366 : I don’t think its Taxi Driver inspiration was meant to be a secret? The presence of Dinero is a nod to that. Informed audiences were meant to know that, going in. Whilst younger audiences, who may not know about Taxi Driver, now have a reference to look into and expand their movie appreciation. The director quite happily admits to the inspiration and openly discusses its comparisons and differences. Seeing it as a rip off will mar your enjoyment. Enjoying the homage, will enhance it. Maybe come at it with more of a, “Glass Half Full,” perspective? Respectfully . . . ✌️

Lancer EZY Lancer EZY for what it’s worth, he said something like it during his tirade on the talk show near the end. “What do you get when you cross a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash...” also kinda funny trivia: phoenix was supposed to say “system” but adlibbed “society” instead. Intentional reference perhaps?
I think him getting into the fridge made sense. He said he was most comfortable in the hospital. The tight space and white walls was comforting for him.
Many accidental deaths came from old era fridges due to its locking mechanism, you couldn’t get out by opening it. Basically, he tried to commit suicide.
@@Rime_Thyme there are many interpretation of the fridge scene, i think the killing himself makes the least sense, he has a gun. The other three are : ptsd from being tied up to a radiator and being beat up as a kid : him feeling comfort in cold, white , bright light and enclosed space like the hospital : or him contrasting the warmth he wanted from wayne to the cold
really loved how they handled his brain damage/tourettes/ tics with the laughing and the cards, its like so accurate the the experience of tourettes (for me, at least!) Pretty sure I heard him thump his head against the inside, like he did in the hospital. You'll notice he pushes his head against or headbutts a lot of things as the movie goes on.
Could'veBeenBetterProductions I’m pretty sure I have the right answer: in the movie, it says that when he was younger he was found chained to a radiator. The cold of the fridge may be a way for him to release tension or feel better after the PTSD of that radiator
Joaquin Phoenix has always been good, his style is just off-kilter and people generally get weirded out. But I'm glad people are finally starting to realize he's a phenomenal actor.
So much this I'm in a Batman Facebook group and they really don't fucking get this statement "ItS nOt AcCuRaTe To ThE cOmIcS which makes something bad"
M Ma This. I wanna see my favorite characters in a real good fucking movie, not seeing a direct replica of something I’ve already read. Movies like this give us a while new side to the character without making it feel like something I’ve already seen, plus it does appeal to more people, this was a great movie regardless of whether you like The Joker or not.
The small details in his behaviors like his restless legs and the fridge scene was what make it feels truly like a real mental disorder to me. I have bipolar disorder and I can totally relate to the fridge scene, during manic episode I just want to do weird stuffs like that just because. Joaquin really did a great acting here, people thought that all mentally ill people have no common sense at all. But they still do, that's why Arthur lets the midget leaves without harming him. Yet at the end of the movie he just lost it all, he got nothing left because nobody cared enough when he could still be saved.
When you see a movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, you should usually prepare for him to be the best part of the movie, he’s really an amazing actor. Definitely one of my favorites
I almost feel like critics are being paid to shit on it in the hopes that it stops people from watching it because everyone’s afraid this movie will start a revolution or some shit.
Most critics have sold all their credibility away and lack any emotional depth or ability to assimilate viewpoints of things other than what's already accepted into their ideals. I don't know what critics have said about this movie, but good or bad, they are and forever will be the lowest tier of human with the most pointless jobs on this planet
The only bad criticism I keep consistently seeing is that it’s boring, I hope that’s wrong! I feel like the “controversy” about this movie is mainly fabricated in order to create intrigue. If that’s true then it’s a smart move because it’s worked! I probably wouldn’t care to see it if people weren’t shitting their pants about the “controversy” behind the movie.

He had a condition called Pathological Laughing Disorder. I've seen a TH-cam video with someone documenting it and it's really sad. You can see how much it hurts him and how much he wants to stop, but he can't

Joker is such a great movie, I love how they used PBA to explain his laugh. I dont know if in the comics they explained that he has it or if it was a creative choice, but it was just smart. And his backstory is so fucking sad it makes you realize that he doesnt do fucked up shit for the fun of it. Hes just very mentally unstable once he realizes that his whole life has been a lie, and then all the bullying from people he had to deal with on the streets or in everyday life just broke him. Such a great movie, if you aren't comfortable with gore then maybe it's not the movie for you.

@@rsgblue5366 Yeah. Considering it was one of the main inspirations lol
Respectfully . . . ✌️

The movie was so good that the credibility of critics condemning it is brought into question.
To say the movie is "BAD" is a flat-out inaccuracy.
