I remember thinking it was all going to kick off after this episode, but the whole Billy Boys storyline never really took off.

It was such bad writing. At the end of this episode he says a war has begun. In the first scene of the next
episode they make peace. That was a mighty war. So pointless.

While being one of the most powerful gangs at the time, they never ascended beyond the level of terrorising the local populace . They had no Political influence and limited their activities to muggings, beatings, petty theft and occasionally, rape. Most of their violence was directed at the growing Irish Catholic population. The Organisational level depicted in "Peaky Blinders" never actually existed.
