Luca's biggest mistake was this scene, right here. Birmingham was Shelby turf. That is why his initial idea - surprised ambush hit and runs - worked and he even managed to kill off John, and nearly managed to strangle Arthur. But this scene he did a 180 and went to open gunfight - in a neighborhood that Tommy knew like the back of his hand. That's why there's a saying - "You don't walk into a lion's lair to kill it." Thanks to Tommy's familiarity, he managed to kill off 4 of Luca's blood-cousin henchmen. And this eventually doomed him - sure, his bosses back in US sent over another bunch of Mafia henchmen to back him up - but unlike the blood-cousins, these henchmen owed no allegiance to Luca or the Changretta family. They worked for the highest bidder - and Tommy used this by sending Michael over to talk smuggling deals to the Luca's Mob Rival, Al Capone. The deal between Shelbys and Capone made Capone a very influential and rich bloke - and the power dynamics changed. The men Luca had backing him up suddenly got secret orders to stay neutral and not harm a hair on a Shelby head.
The most realistic part is his breathing and slight panic everytime he faces on one of the men which standout from the rest of Hollywood shooting scenes
Shows legit man for it being made up off a family gang that died off rip in real life. Good story telling A tier acting for the most part pace keeps you locked in dialogue is real good as well they speak with passion action scenes are top tiers never know what’s happening haha fine I’ll rewatch
The one thing that stuck out to me, is Tommy doesn’t just drop the Lewis gun when its out/jams. He carefully puts it down. I wonder if it was a genuine one that had been modified for filming, so they still had to be careful. Either way, it’s just strange, you’d have dumped it and ran for that lanchester looking gun in the house.
