Explore Hampstead, a beautiful hill-top London village

However you get to Hampstead whether by bus, tube or car make sure you also explore the streets and winding lanes off the bustling, Y-shaped centre. You will immediately be rewarded with street upon street of charming examples of Georgian, Victorian & Edwardian homes, from tiny cottages to imposing multi-storeyed status symbols of days gone by.
Home to countless actors, musicians, authors, playwrights and politicians as their “village” within London with it’s extensive parkland “the Heath” which enjoys acres of green space and stunning views of the central London skyline.
These former residents include George Orwell, Daphne du Maurier, DH Lawrence, HG Wells & Robert Louis Stevenson. More recently these include Ridley Scott, Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, Helena Bonham Carter, Boy George, Jonathan Ross, Liam Gallagher, Sting & George Michael.
Our three favourite pubs in Hampstead are The Punch Bowl, The Mason’s Arms and The Holly Bush. For a light breakfast or lunch, the authentically French cafe/patisserie Louis is lovely and has pavement tables. For a special lunch or dinner the wonderfully pretty Italian restaurant, Villa Bianco, in Perrin’s Court, painted white with it’s balcony and tiny terrace is so inviting.
We start this Hampstead walk on the picture-perfect Church Row looking directly at St. John at Hampstead church. It’s churchyard has been left to age but been sympathetically maintained and a walk around it is truly like a trip back in time. The houses along here are stunningly beautiful as you’ll see.
