So what was the end result? Is the pin code something that the D7 tool cant read from another key or the car? Hence why some keys have to be taken to a locksmith or the dealer?
It's the car. VW doesn't or at least it wasn't reading the pin. Last time I tried again I still wasn't able to program the key. I haven't tried it again since I have been fixing other things. It could be the key but it is the right key so I'll try again another time. I only had the issue with the VW so other cars may not have this problem.
I think Xtool is guilty of false advertising. I too bought an X7. One of the main reasons was to program keys. They should have fine print that says "this device doesn't program most keys". Word to the wise.
Good luck getting the A30M to do any updates, And now my D7 is doing the same thing They both say internet anomaly when trying to update and I've tried updating them on friends routers and it says the same thing after trying it just stops downloading updates. The d7 is only 2 years old with 3years of free updates
@@johnmitchell8925 That's weird. I have been updating it with no problems. On the updates setting I think it is, it tells you when you started and when your updates end. 3 years as far as I know. First make sure to update the scanner. This scanner gets updates very often and are pretty fast. Then try it after that. Also make sure your car is supported. Contact them with your vin to make sure it is supported.
I talked to the manufacturer, this tool is basically a scan tool not a key tool, they put very little amount of key capacity in this tool(I guess mainly from the marketing point of view); they just want us buy more expensive and more key-oriented tools from them
It does work for some, but probably not too many as you mentioned. I can't program a key for my 2007 vw for the life of me and believe me I have tried all the options they have on there. It did work on a 2012 mazda 3.
i digged into this brand a little bit, seems like for their key tools, you need to have a adaptor for VW, mercedes, bmw and audi, search kc501@@myshots101
Mea culpa. I don't usually post things like that, but I just got a D7 and was looking for good videos on how to use it. I eventually got it working on a Mazda 3 2012, but not on the vw rabbit. I don't have a D8 so I really don't know. I think it's a hit and miss with the key programming. They may work for some and not others.
@myshots101 my 2011 vw rabbit is also having the same issues programming the key. It programed the key fob just fine. Unfortunately xtools might have to step in for this and see if they can work their magic.

Some keys need the eeprom adapter to program the keys. I’m looking into the x7 to program a key for my 03 Honda accord due to losing the original
On the main screen, dont click "auto scan" instead click "specail functions" and try from that menu.
that's what I was going to say

I love this tool. You have to start from the beginning and it will give you an option to get the 6 digit security code to be able to go further
I can read the code but it still won't program the key for a 07 VW rabbit.
I have programmed keys for honda, toyota, ford, mercedes, etc with this xtool d7
Good to know. Thanks. I was able to program the Mazda 3 key but not the vw rabbit.
Facts same here
What about dodge challengers

Some people should just not try to do things they don't have a clue about. If they do, they shouldn't put it on You Tube.

you have to read the pin code for the key before you start programing bro
that tool is working perfect

Same with my 07 Volkswagen rabbit. This scanner can't do it. I have tried everything on it and no luck.

Go to Check security code

You can't program keys on VW without additional accessories.
Dealer PIN code required
