  • In case you missed it, #Buick is now an all SUV brand. That’s right, no more new LeSabres or Regals prowling American streets. But with the new utility-minded mission also comes a new focus on style, and they’re about to shake things up in the small crossover segment with this all-new #Envista. #BuickEnvista

Leave it to GM to make something that looks good enough people may want to drive it, then kill it with a powertrain that makes passing on a two-lane road a white knuckle experience. And that’s before you put any more weight (passengers) in it.

If this has the typical sound deadening and vibration tuning that Buick's are known for then this is a pretty decent vehicle. Being a GM, the mid grade will be discounted to low 20s. Rental fleets will buy these up in huge volumes and you can look forward to 2-3 year old used models for like 13k.

If anything, it would be derided for the reliability issues it will likely have, particularly from that overworked three cylinder engine. Buick makes premium looking vehicles, but no substance underneath that skin. It's a veneer...Avenir

A 2.0 Turbo. For the ST. But would there be room in that engine bay?
That 1.2T looked like it filled the entire front bay under the hood.
GM was never good at packaging, especially for maintenance.
The last GM product my parents had was a 2005 GMC Envoy. The water pump went out. The grill, the radiator, the hoses, the alternator, the cooling fan assembly, and the accessory belt had to be removed just to get access to the pump. A huge jump. And then when you reassemble it, all new hoses and belts had to be used because the older ones would just fall apart. They we made to be one use only.
The dealer wanted $1800 for the replacement. Parts and labor. Total parts cost $340.
My dad and I bought the parts and did it ourselves. He was a jet engine mechanic for 24 years in the Air Force. And he said dropping a J79 from an F-4E was easier than changing that GMC Envoy's water pump.

You're absolutely correct. The 2.7 liter in the Silverado is based on the same engine architecture as this 1.2l and makes the same horsepower per liter. Don't know why everyone complains so much about the engine, it's plenty fast enough for around town and on the highway especially weighing only 3000 lbs. I recommended this car for my mother because of the small engine. There's more space around it to work on it than nearly any other modern car. Everything is easy to get to. Her previous car is a 2013 VW Jetta TDI that she put over 400,000 miles on (she still has that car as well). The power to weight ratio is nearly the same and nobody ever complained about the power in those cars. And my only maintenance experience with this car so far (oil change) was one of the easiest ever. There are doors in the belly pan for easy access of the oil drain plug and filter. The filter is a standard PF64/UPF64R/PH12060 type, is placed vertically behind the door, and the oil drain plug is also vertical behind the door, so the oil drains straight down, instead of overshooting the drain pan and getting oil all over the bottom of the car. It also specs a 5w-30 oil, not a ridiculously thin 0w-16 or 0w-8 oil. The gas mileage is excellent and only gets better with higher octane fuel. 32 mpg average on 87, 35-36 average on 89, 38 average on 93. The engine also runs much quieter on midgrade or premium than on regular. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this car or the new Trax compared to other cars in the same size range.

@@Magnus_Magnusson_702 an acquaintance owned a 2015 Chevy Cruze. He owned it for 150k miles. In that time the alternator died, the turbo blew twice, and a sensor failed, killing another sensor simultaneously, which caused the transmission to downshift into 2nd gear at 80mph. Scared him so bad he fixed it and immediately sold it. I'd say GM Korea cars are better overall than those circa 2000 Daewoos, but they're still not great cars. The 1.2L turbo in the Trax/Envista has a timing belt instead of a timing chain as a cost cutting measure, which is pretty unheard of these days among small engines. Even Hyundai/Kia all use timing chains and I've never heard of that part failing on one. GM Korea does have some history with their timing belts snapping, killing the engine. I know it was an issue on the Aveo.

Henderson Chevrolet here in Henderson, NV ended up putting a used engine as per her extended warranty (through Nissan) as she purchased the car at Nissan of Henderson here used back when it had 41k 2 years ago. He said he has at least 7 of the 1.4 turbo motors with the same issue and some fortunately are still under the manufacturer's warranty or have the GM warranty and therefore they're getting a brand new engine or a refurbished one through GM which would have been much nicer had my friend gotten that...but anyway, I'm done with GM I now own a Tesla Model 3 Performance 2020 as that's all I could afford but I love it so much I'm so happy with it!!

@RowdyMagnusson, and your point is? The previous Encore was built in South Korea and consistently rated very high in reliability and was Buick’s best selling model. By the way, the Cruze was NOT a Daewoo built product. The Sonic was, two totally different cars. The 1.4 Ecotec in the Cruze was designed by Opel in Germany, not by Daewoo and the engines put in US models were built in Michigan so the engine problem you mention has nothing to do with Daewoo.
