I just got my betta yesterday and the first thing she did was taste everything. Filter, heater, wood, plants, sand, snails. EVERYTHING

I was literally researching about this and you showed me the way into aqauscape now I can aquascape my betta's tank and my 55 with tiger barbs thanks, but I l still put a filter just to be sure since i m new into aquascape the closest thing I have done to aquascape is putting a lot of duckweed in my betta's tank and anubias in my tiger barbs tank, but chris keep up these vids we new hobbyist need them because of you I started using petscord 😂. and BTW the koi betta is so coooooooooooooooooooooooool. its so lucky to have a fish parent as caring as you.

@@VitorCoelho6 pretty common in sprin and winter. Super bonus if tey are covered in moss or sun bleaced or speckled. usually found near bodies of water and under wood los and rocks

When you grow the Ohko Stone, do you have to use nutrient rich substrate like the one you used or can you use plain sand?
Plain sand gets you river rocks
use gravel and it grows more gravel

Thank you for this video. I’ve always wanted to do a real fish tank like this. When I was younger I used to have a betta, but now that I’m older I’m amazed he lived for over 10yrs because I was a former fish abuser considering the size of his tank. I’ve vowed that the next time I will do a proper sized tank and I want to do real plants. I’m going to save this video as reference for when that day comes, and hopefully you’ll still be doing tank reviews too. ☺️

I never thought about using styrofoam for an aquascape, that's such a good idea.
I built a similar sized planted
filterless tank for my betta, and the perimeters stayed within a healthy range. My problem was lack of water movement. Which caused thicker usual oily bio surface and the seed type shrimp critters and glass mico worms to explode. My betta would chase and eat them, and water changes did help, but I ended up having to add a bubbler to shake up the stagnant water. It worked no more mico critter issues since.
I see so much good wood like that while we walk the dogs and pick berries in this sand area! I'm so freaking thrilled that I can start to find some nice pieces for this exact project!! Thank you!!

I have set up a tank and then put a snail in it. Going to get a betta in another 2 weeks. I was thinking of just doing fake plants until I found this channel... Chris you brought me to the dark side of planted aquariums!

Love this!! How do you keep the Betta from jumping out? I've had several jump even with a lid.
I have my open tank with red root floaters. And I keep it a inch and a half below the rim with water. The floating plants help Deter my betta from jumping. I do have to top off my tank more though due to evaporation.
I seal the edges with duck tape or cardboard lol or use duck weed or water Lettuce to block the betta from jumping out
I was actually thinking of making a forest landscape so this video helped me a lot. 👍
My Ohko Stone's Only Get to 2 inches on my Fluval Stratum. I think it needs more heat

Looking good! I’m getting ready to do my first scape.
Just got a new betta. Currently he’s still in the cup he came it but I have a five gallon prepped and ready for him in the next couple of days. I can’t wait to see him in the setup I have planned. Honestly wish the tank would cycle a bit faster but yeah. Went ahead and got the fish cause I fell in love with his colors and personality but yeah. Glad I grabbed him even if my tank isn’t quite ready for him cause like literally a second after I picked him up some lady brought her young kid over and they grabbed one next to him and you know that poor fish is doomed.
Edit: also I know 5 gallons are just the minimum and trust me I’d love to get an even bigger tank for him but as of right now I’m not in a place that can support a big tank. Just graduated from college afterall and still on the hunt for a job/apartment/somewhere other than my parents place lol

I am having sooo much trouble scaping my 29 gallon tank. There is algae everywhere and I keep changing where I place the wood. I have 2 large pieces of manzanita wood and they never fit how I want. But I spent good money on them so I am going to leave it. Plus, when I get fish in there, I don't want to accidentally crush them with the wood banging around. Additionally, the tank is on a tall dresser and I am super short. So I have a stool but I still have to put my entire arm in to reach the bottom of the tank. Okay, everyone can just ignore this rant about my frustrations with my first large tank. The Betta tank in the video looks great!
