I want to make it very clear… there are many animals in the initial fish stores which are in horrible conditions. My job when doing these tours is to not judge or call people out or businesses, rather but show you guys and all conclude together how we feel. These businesses are old and have not completely advanced in the way they should for various cultural and social reasons. Please be open minded and kind with your comments. Absolutely feel free to comment your thoughts, opinions, and feelings. Just please be respectful. Thanks!!!
Thank you. Much respect. The documentaries about petsmart have been very very bad! The breeding animals suffer terribly.. my goal would be to help buy what I need and what's available before I start demanding from places!
Due to the activation of online stores, the pet area of Cheonggyecheon has declined. The area has been reduced by 1/3, and if you want to understand the Korean ornamental fish or reptile market, it is recommended to visit the expo as it is active.
Hey, native Korean here! Surprised and happy to see you in Korea George! The initial pet stores located in Cheonggyecheon are relatively good with aquatic animals, but when it comes to other animals such as birds and rodents most stores don't provide the best quality for them especially with elderly owners. Trust me it was way worse back then when they had cages full of cats and dogs. You can think it like this: Cheonggyecheon specializes in aquariums and the other pets such as the birds and rodents are like side jobs they do to attract in more kids who relatively prefer "touchable" pets. It has been criticized in Korea for a long time and because of that a lot of pet stores there have been shutting down and we're still in the progress of making better conditions for these animals. I hope you guys know that most Koreans (at least the younger generation) never even think about going to Cheonggyecheon to get pets because we know the poor conditions. In the early days about 20~40 years ago when regulations against animals were less strict, there were all kinds of exotic animals in Cheonggyecheon through illegal trade. We even had alligators lmao that's why we had urban legends that you could even get dolphins if you really wanted in Cheonggyecheon. However! As the interest for aquarium hobby and exotic animals in Korea is going up, we have a lot of young breeders and shop owners (especially reptiles) who are really passionate with what they are doing. Recent breeders and shops maintain good environment for the animals and they always try to study for more informations and better ways to improve. Because the market is still relatively small and obviously we're not an English speaking country, so the information we can get is very limited. That might be the reason why the workers looked confused or uninterested cause Koreans are mostly not fluent in English, but I bet they searched about the event more thoroughly after you left😂 +the supposed 'Korean' store sign is...definitely not Korean lmao. I think that's an AI generated image cause those are not even proper chinese character
@@metatwo Unfortunately, due to high land prices in Seoul, it’s hard to find convenient and easy stores for buying fish in the city. One of the best places for viewing freshwater fish is a place called Aqua Garden. However, each person must order at least one menu item, typically coffee. Most of the good aquariums are located outside of Seoul, and many of them operate online.
