    I've been pushing Problem Child 2 for five years...and I won't stop now! Between a magic rock, mutant rabies, and flying cakes, the sequel is a lot more of an optimistic romp with Junior using his various talents to protect Dad, while Dad deals with his own insecurities as a parent.

    For some reason Gilbert's movie roles never really "got" him but, seeing him do standup live several times, I can report he always left me in stitches.

      I think he was better in his hosting role from USA Up All Night, than he was in any of his movie roles. He got to stretch a little, and wasn't always 110% ON. And, yes, his standup was hilarious, even when he was doing the same material 30 years later. Just getting to see Gilbert being Gilbert was fun as hell.

    Not only are there three movies (two theatrical and one made-for-TV), there was also a Saturday morning cartoon. If you think the movie was rough, the cartoon is somehow even worse. The only actor they could get back was Gilbert Godfried (they couldn't even get the kid back!), and on the whole the entire thing felt like one of those cartoons where they had the concept for one thing, but slapped a license on it because they thought it would get popular.
    To give you an idea of how bad the show was, the first episode didn't even have Junior causing trouble, at least not like he does in the movies. The first episode had Junior fighting for his life as he was stalked by a killer clown, and through the entire episode it's made abundantly clear that this clown is genuinely evil and even super powered, and that Junior is outmatched. It's so bizarre.

    Thanks for the shout out at the end! I would always go back and watch The Man with the Golden Arm episode and now I can revisit this one time and time again too! EDIT: I'm happy to announce Frances was born healthy and perfect. (:

    You know, as I was watching this episode, I kind of agreed that it wasn't a great movie, but I was still invested and wanted to see what happened to the kid next. It made me feel SOMETHING for him, which is better than nothing. And I thought it was actually kind of heartwarming how the Dad refused to give up on him.

      I've only seen it through this vid but yeah, I had that reaction too. That part at least seemed genuine, even if it maybe doesn't come across that way given the general tone

    The shot of the the kid in jeans and sneakers being lugged in the basket during the opening montage was a decent gag. Also, I wonder if this is where John and Amy met?

    I love this movie. It's ridiculous and over the top but man some of the lines are gold. "Have you ever seen a grown man wear so much blue?" 😂 John Ritter was such a gem.

    I think they missed the whole point of problem child it was writers of raunchy comedy’s who wanted to make a raunchy kids movie as an experiment and i think it worked

  • @suedenim
    @suedenim 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The kid reminds me how until... the early 2000s, maybe? How the vast majority of child actors were downright awful. Nowadays it would be kind of shocking to see a young actor this bad in any sort of high profile production. I've always been curious what happened exactly. Better casting? Better kid actor training?

    I'm gonna pitch Problem Child 2 as well, but know going into it that the writers were doing an intentional tribute to John Waters in a children's film and somehow they got away with it. When viewed through that lens, it's kind of an incredible achievement in how genuinely vile it is.

    While in film school in my audio class, Aronofsky's _"Pi"_ was required viewing. That and _"Requiem for a Dream"_ are both excellent examples of sound usage in film. You kind of don't realize how much you take it for granted until you're looking for it. I'd encourage anyone to watch those films and pay attention to how his use of sound enhances everything you're seeing.

    SEEN IT! Evelyn (2002). Pierce Brosnan starred in this Irish film right before his last Bond film, Die Another Day. I, as a 9 year old boy, was an extra as they filmed a part of it in my hometown. We got paid £30 a day and got free hot chocolate. Pierce signed autographs for us constantly, even on our Styrofoam hot chocolate cups.
