  • How a paper company from Finland made its mark in the technological development - nokia
Nokia was founded in 1865 by a Finnish mining engineer Fredrik Idestam, who started out as a simple paper mill operator in Tampere, a city located in south-western Finland. At the time, the demand for paper in Europe was high, so Idestam decided to work in this field. It wasn’t long before Idestam expanded this operation in 1868 to the nearby town of Nokia, which is located near the Nokianvirta River, 15km west of Tampere. Thus the "Nokia" name was born in 1871, inspired by its location.

Nokia. A case study how a once dominant force in the mobile phone industry fumbles to the bottom due to mismanagement and poor leadership skills as they failed to respond to a new product that would end changing the entire market forever.

Microsoft just bought the Phone division of Nokia. Nokia remained a separate company after 2014 focusing on networks and connectivity.

Microsoft failed to adapt the already provided applications from iOS and Android. That is the end of Microsoft/Nokia smartphone division.

Same here. I always had a Nokia phone before I had my first iPhone 12 years ago. Yes I love my Apple products, but Nokia was my first love, they had the best and toughest phones, which in some ways I can’t say the same for iPhones lol.

Nokia didn't embrace android as an operating system when they were still on top. I am pretty sure the creator of Android tried to sell this to them but they were refused and so they offered it to other mobile phone manufacturers.

Many mistakes, for example the first nokia phone with camera was not built in, but as an accessory, then after mistakes in generatioons and dates, never mentioned the ruin plan of microsoft to make the company fall from its core and buying with the craziest low price, fortunately was for a period of time, after that the company was free from the hands of microsoft for being bought for someone else, that company was HMD global OY, which is a company constituent from former nokia workers in Finland to save the brand from extintion, and the other part (FIH mobile) a company from the chinese FOXCONN (wich is the same company that manufactures every apple product) bought exclusive rights for manufacturing nokia phones, so, in design the Finnish HMD does all their work and for manufacturing FIH mobile, in the end nokia is still the same Finnish company that ever was, and a promise to come back to the glory in the past had.
Btw, after some phones from the hmd era since nokia 6 in 2017, I actually use nokia 9 pureview from 2019 and find no reason to change it, nokia is still great quality!

"Fall", I still buy Nokia, both bricks and smartphones. Just ordered the G42, apparently it has good battery life compared to other smarties and you can "repair it yourself", as in switch the screen, battery etc. Nah Nokia is still cool, at least to me.

Yes, they're still around, however, they are nothing like what they once were. Back then when a person went shopping for a new phone, Nokia was on the list high up. That is not the case today. Today many people don't even consider Nokia as there are way better offerings & the competition is fierce. There are many that they'd rather look at before even thinking about a Nokia.
