it went out of style big time though, these days it's somewhat challenging to come by in smaller supermarkets i think the USA holds more buttermilk just for the customs they have around making pancakes nowadays

Chocomel .. in my country it's called cecemel, because chocomel already existed when nutricia (the guys from the coffee creamer) tried to bring it to market. Here in belgium we consider cecemel (or chocomel for the rest of the world) as one of the best non-artisanal chocolate-milks available, it's also considered a very good breakfast-in-a-bottle, especially if you eat a waffle alongside :)

On top of domestic drinks like that, a lot of Pepsi company soft drinks are made in a factory near Utrecht, Vrumona in Bunnik and distributed all over North-Western Europe. Always fun to go on vacation in France, get a pepsi or so on a terrace, and finding out that pepsi was made right at home lol.

Well, AA Drink you had is considered to have the most amount of sugar out of any drinks available in NL I believe. It has more sugar than Coca-Cola, BUT, if you're sports person and want to fire on all cylinders, it's really good. Also I use to drink it after getting hangover.
Pro tip for an attempt: add roosvicee to your Karnemelk. Tbh i don't think it'll fix it for your man as he doesn't seem to do well with dairy related drinks but we loved it as kids. Another thing my mom taught me is a slice of jonge kaas and a bit of pindakaas on it, roll it up and enjoy. En we used to put the last bit of yoghurt in a coffee filter (with the filter holder from the coffee machine) and put it on top of a mug in the fridge overnight, then put some roosvicee in the next day and you got a lovely desert.
When I was younger the teacher told me what my favorite drink was so I responded with wicky but i pronounced it as Whisky so I didn’t know what whisky was at the time so the teacher responded quite surprised and a bit shocked so later on she called my parents because she thought my parents where giving me whisky. So a moment I will never forget when I see wicky…
A nice tip for when you’re in the US and miss Rivella: mix apple juice with sparkling water and it has a similar taste. I used to be allergic to refined sugar and I would mix that as a replacement for soda’s
My favourite is the Sisi Mango zero sugar, it reminds me of the Aa drink but less sweet. When i have Gazeuse i automatically start singing "mijn Franse tante Gazeuse" 🎶 in my mind 😄
AHh I love to see this! I used to drink gazeuse so much, but damn it's so sweet. I always had the brown one (champagne?). Also we would add siroop in our karnemelk back in the days. Makes me gag if I think about it haha!
But since champagne is a protected name, nowadays they call it campagnepils. We only had that stuff during the holidays (Rotterdam area) but my supermarket now has it too occasionally.

Had to look up what that is. Can't remember ever having seen it in the stores here but I noted that they have a cherry flavoured version. Guess that could throw you off on anything other that has cherries in it or even cherries themselves. I have a thing with goat cheese, tastes like drunk vomit to me.

With just one difference: back then everything contained real sugar. Nowadays everything has chemical sweeteners. I always liked the "old" champagnepils, but the one they sell now is absolutely disgusting

pretty sure buttermilk is widely available in the US as well. Had it in Florida and Mississippi and tasted just about the same as in the Netherlands. This video did give me an idea for our US friends when they come here.
Cassis was my favorite drink as a kid, and as when I grew up I got a bartender job and they asked me to make an original Cocktail I used Cassis with Amaretto. Served it to the people that asked for it and they all thought it was amazing, after they tried I sampled it myself and you know.. actually pretty good!

Places around the world that are called New .... usually are named after a place. examples (New England, New Jersey, New Orleans, New Mexico) to name a few. New Zealand was named by a Dutch sailor.

Lipton Ice-Tea is imho better then cocacola on a hot summer day.... it's so refreshing, hmmmmz... Drank tons of cans of that in my youth... Only later lipton came with uncarbonated ice-tea with multiple flavours like peach, citrus and other fruits

Blackcurrants were forbidden to be grown in the USA. So the taste will be completely new for an American.
