    January 3rd 2014 marks a rare visit for Peter Nygard's private 727 to the Bahamas. It was registered on flightaware , (which usually doesn't happen) which is why I was able to catch it. She flew from Los Angeles and 2 hrs later and as a cold front was passing over, he rocketed out for Ft Lauderdale.
    Registration: VP-BPZ
    Based on recent research, Nygard now has a 727-200. The last sighting of his 100 showed all engines taken out.

    I was a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines in the 1980's and 1990's and we got 6 Boeing 727 -200's from defunct Braniff International Airways to fly our new West Coast routes out of HOU. I loved flying on these aircraft. It was especially fun sitting in the aft jump seat attached to the tail exit door and watching the long fuselage bend up and down on take off.

    What a great airplane. I helped mod some of these back in the late 80's, early 90's with 200 series engines, two-man cockpit, etc, mostly to lure the airlines to keep the airplane around, but it didn't work. Stage II was implemented, and Stage III was on its way, so noise was still an issue, at least in night hours, and in Europe. Good ol' three holer. Boeing had the right stuff then.

    Still one of the best looking and safest airliners built. This one ( now scrapped you say ?) had a fantastic livery and winglets too ! I read somewhere that Peter is in hot water right now. That was a good catch Cameron.

    I have over 12,000 hours in the old three holer, my absolute favorite airplane to fly. As I watch this video, I am reminded by that gorgeous design which is timeless and looks better than the junk they're turning out now.

      +triplanelover I was a wrenchbender and hoping to be a loadmaster on the "2-7", and agree, top tier A-1 aircraft. I worked on FedEx and Morningstar Express aircraft before going on the 310. VERY forgiving airplane, you could MEL everything and it was all flaps! Loved it!

      TriPlaner-Maybe you can answer a question for me. I had 330,000 on Western Airlines with another 160,000 onto the combined account with Delta. I don't know if the Tri-Star was the only triple or if DA had the 727 before they inherited a bundle from WA, but if you flew Western it was the 737-200 or the 727-200 and if you got lucky the DC-10. I didn't care for the fireplug 37 , but I loved the late night half empty take offs in the 727, they could pin you to the seat which I loved. I flew on Easterns 727s and it was a very different experience the takeoffs were so shallow, for a minute or two you thought you might be going down. It was that way every time and believe me these aircraft were not loaded, it was after they began hubbing in Kansas City. Do you have any idea why their climb outs were so shallow?

    the takeoff is not crazy. this plane was specifically built for short haul flights and short runways flying from city to city in America. their ability to be airborne quickly is one of the reasons why a lot of airlines including Panam had them back in the days.

    • @ThatGuy-te9wh
      @ThatGuy-te9wh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But this is like... really short, even for a 727. Nothing in widespread service now could achieve the takeoff in this video.

    The wow-what beautiful jet plane, I remember flying them from Jax to Cle in the late 60s when I was in the Navy. I especially remember the stewardess announces "You are flying Easterns non-stop whisperjet service from Jacksonsville to Cleveland" or vice versa just before take off, It did not seem any quiter than any other commerical jet airliner then, but probley since I alway went military standby then, I would always alway somehow managed to have a seat next to an engine in the backend but it was always good to be going home!

    I used to fly to Yellowstone with my grandfather in the 1980's I remember we would fly to Denver then on to a 727 always bumpy from thunderstorms see this tiny runway cut out in dense forest around it. The 727 would approach high with it's speed brakes drop right down on the runway like a duck landing in a tiny pond. When we take off it was steep just like in this video I miss the 727 for it's size was 3 big engines lot of power. I can't remember the airline maybe Delta.

    727-100 series with 200 series engines plus circuit fuel (6 tons) minus all passengers = STOL. !
    S Borden : Maybe # 2 reverser locked out inoperative ?

    • @tom211t
      @tom211t 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Graeme Williams Engines number one and three are the engines seen on the MD-80s, most likely something like JT8D-200+ whilst engine number 2 remains the classic, possibly, JT8D-9.. On the number 2 engine the thrust reverser clamshells operate internally rather than externally so you cant see them when they are activated.

    • @comptiger5000
      @comptiger5000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +tom211t #2 actually has the reverser removed on the Valsan / Super 27 conversions with the JT8D-200 series engines for #1 and #3.

    • @javacup912
      @javacup912 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +tom211t Looks like someone already corrected your statement. I helped mod some of these, and indeed, the #2 TR is completely removed. The #1 and #3 engines were 200 series, and in some, #2 engine was a -15.

    • @Kneedragon1962

      Eric Slifkin I think it's got less than full fuel and not much load on. Thrust to weight is very good. Notice also that he pulls up to a pretty high departure angle. I think the reason is he's trying to hold and manage the airspeed, while the gear is coming up and before the flaps and stuff are clean. Once he's got it clean, he lets the nose drop a bit and starts to let it accelerate.
      Want to see an impressive departure? I play with FlightGear simulator, on the computer. Select a 777 200LR, choose no passengers or load, min fuel, and firewall it. It rolls and rotates and climbs out like a fighter.

    • @slifass
      @slifass 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      how or where would I see this?

    • @AndrewandDebbie
      @AndrewandDebbie 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eric Slifkin The Super 727 with two JT8D-217 or 219s has a 20% shorter take off roll than a 727-200.
      In a lightly loaded executive configuration, the take off roll can be very short.

      +TWTR4EVER nope, that's not what I'm trying to say. What I'm trying to say is, most people don't like just giving money away. If someone is extremely rich, how do you separate him from his money? Get him to spend it, preferably on something that occupies a lot of people. If that is called wasting money, so be it. If it is showing off, so what?
      A lot of the old great works of art were created because some people wanted to show off! I'm sure a lot more crap was also created but discarded long ago...

      Watch a normal 727-200 takeoff and you will see.
      This -100 has more power than the standard -200 because the #1 and 3 engines are replaced with stronger versions AND it has winglets. Short flight plus all that= less than 3000 foot takeoff roll(typically a 727 takes almost 8000 feet).

    Normal Boeing 727 100 series take off lightly loaded. Nothing at all "crazy".
