    This is beautiful!! The Boeing 727 was an excellent airplane, and a million times better than the McDonnell-Douglas DC-10, and the accursed 737 MAX.

    Just off the GW Parkway, there is this park right at the foot of the main runway at Reagan National Airport in DC. This was the absolute best place to watch 727s take to the air in the 1980s and 1990s. The low bypass engines were as loud as an F15. I'll never forget the "crackle" shockwaves the engines made when behind the jet on takeoff. The smell of the burning kerosine was sexual!

    Great video. I love hearing how loud those engines are, and it gives me a better feeling for their huge thrust. It'd also so cool to see from this aspect how they push that heavy airplane down the runway and into the air.

    Awesome aircraft, I miss the sounds of pure power coming from those engines, they had a distinctive roar and crackle sound when under full power taking off. Love to have another flight on one for old times sake!

    How you know that was full throttle? Were you able to speak to the crew before takeoff? Just wondering as most airliners do not use full throttle on takeoff.

    So I feel I need to share this. In 2001 and 02 I was traveling back and forth between PHX and TPA. I used Delta transfer was in Atlanta. My first three flights from PHX to ATL were red eye flts. 11:55 pm departure equipment used Boeing 727. Wow how lucky I felt. First three flts were just that. Although I flew on 727s as a kid those stood out. Fourth trip my tkt still said 727. To my disappointment a 757 pulled in. So ended 727trips. The irony the 757 was 727 replacement on Boeing assembly line. I seen a couple 727s in Atlanta that night never again though that was the end of Delta 727 era. Prized memory's. Had I waited 4 months more to start those trips never would of happened. I agree bring them back.

      I have heard there's a group of former pilots and other concorde workers that have actually raised funds and are trying to purchase two, one for charter flights, another to make static and turn into a restaurant. I believe they intended to have the restaurant profits go directly to keeping the flying one in service

      Roberts Racing37 I took my kids in 2003 to BHX to see the last take off, told that they would experience something they will never forget. They were teenagers so got the “it’s just an airplane” off them. Well, they still remember the air and ground shaking, the noise and the afterburners!

    • @mehmetokay7073

      Concorde was loud. I saw it three times. The first time was British Airways with gear down heading to land at Heathrow over Central London viewed from outside the Earl's Court auto show in the fall of 1983. The second was Air France landing to JFK in March of 1993. I was standing outside the AA terminal and it was approaching to land on 31L behind an Alitalia 747F, and an El Al 747, and it was very loud in the cold air. I only saw that one in the air, on final approach, from some distance. The touchdown was obscured from my view by ground clutter. My third and final sighting was BA at JFK landing on 31R in September of 2003. I was seated in a Jet Blue A-320 at a window seat on the starboard side parked at their terminal waiting for push back on a flight to Buffalo and I heard it before I saw it . It was so loud everyone looked over. And there it was. Right there. I only saw that one on the ground. One month before BA retired the fleet. In my view the most elegant jetliner to have ever taken to the skies.

    The 727 is a beautiful airplane that is streamlined and aerodynamic while the A380 is just an ugly blob in the sky!! Love planes of the 727 era...todays aircraft have NO STYLE!!!

    • @palonazo
      @palonazo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +badabing69r Your're partially right. There are lots of 757s 767s and 733 and 734s online nowadays. The 777, to me, is the last real airplane.

    • @bobbypaluga4346
      @bobbypaluga4346 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I betcha don't even like the teeth shattering 380 smack down. My wife who is a 20 yr AA sky waitress and "save your ass'er" thought our Air France pilot blew it when we smacked down at LAX, "no Honey that's normal, you only worry when you "touch" down". The 727 could hang 5 feet above the runway for a few seconds and softly touch down, like no other ship. It took United crews a while to figure it out and stop coming down short but once they did it was pillow soft

    • @bobbypaluga4346
      @bobbypaluga4346 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +palonazo I'm partial to the 767 but I have no idea what your criteria is. There is no more beautiful takeoff than a 757, each aircraft has its own outstanding feature, well you do have to first exclude the generics (AirBus)

    • @palonazo
      @palonazo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bobby Paluga
      He said today's aircraft have no style to which I answered that there are still airplanes today that feel like real airplanes: 767, 757, 737NG and second generation. I also added that, among the modern ones, the 777 feels like a real airplane to me. I have a CPL and frozen ATPL and during my training days, I used to work as cabin crew for Emirates and I just LOVED the 777 better than the 330/340. The a380 hadn't arrived yet when I worked there. Before that I was cabin crew in Air Europa and they had 737-800 and 767, both of them are amazing airplanes. To me, the 757 and the 767 are just the same airplane with a different shape and performance. When I say I like or I don't like the airplane, it's not really about the way it looks, I only care about the cockpit philosophy. Airbuses are amazing machines but I hope to end up in a Boeing as a pilot.

    • @SkylaxAviation
      @SkylaxAviation 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      palonazo I prefer 330/340 and a lot of pilot say airbus 330 or 340 is the best confort for LC. Boeing too is great

      @Dino0469 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The really REALLY loud models were the earliest models the -100's with the oval shaped intake S duct of the #2 engine--it's those models I think had the target-type clamshell reversers which could be seen when opened for reverse thrust like with the B737-200's and the DC9--those used to be extremely loud--especially when doing a "power-back" at the gate! As a kid I remember seeing this from time to time at the old Atlanta terminal when I would go to the open air observation deck looking down on the planes from Eastern, Piedmont, United and Southern Airways sitting at the center terminal gates below(Delta planes parked a distance away from the Ob. deck terminal) and it wasn't unusual to see the powered backup done with the 727's and DC9's back then...Since the deck was on top of the center terminal and in the open, it would be so loud from the intense whine of the engines spooling up then the "buckets" would open and it was VERY loud as they would slowly back up! The sight, the smell and the ridiculously loud roar compared to today--yes I do miss it and am happy to have experienced as a kid moments such as those-a time long gone but yet doesn't really seem to have been that long ago...I guess that means I'm getting old...or already am old! lol

    Boas recordações dos 6 B727 da Itapemirim nos anos 90. Trabalhei para aquela empresa em sua base no Viracopos, Campinas, e cansei de ver cenas como essa do vídeo (Minto. Não cansei nem um pouco). Os Antonov An124 da Air Foyle/Heavy Lift, da Antonov Bureau Design e da Volga Dnepr desciam ali com muita freqüencia, além dos 747 da Lufthansa, da Kalitta e da Cargolux, os Fokker 50 e Fokker 100 da TAM, DC-10, MD11 e B727 da Fedex, o B707 da SkyMaster, alguns DC-8 não me lembro mais de qual companhia. Ótimos tempos. Belo vídeo.

    There is one sitting idle at the airport here in my area. The engines have stoppers in the front & back I guess to keep junk out. Pilot for U. S. Airways said they retired all of theirs & so did other U. S. airlines because they were getting old, they burned more fuel than newer planes & they make a lot of noise. But the noise is what I liked. Just realised it is now a rare site to see one. Kinda like seeing a DC-6 take off today. Where would you go to see one?

    1:20 - It's fascinating that since the 2000s, aircraft exist with engine nacelles(the part of the engines we see) nearly the diameter of that entire 727 fuselage(!), fewer engines, and yet produce 3-4X the thrust power and make far less noise doing it! Not to mention lower fuel burn per seat-mile(or whatever the industry term is).

      On “light twins” as my 727 Capt dad would call those ... other planes, those planes cannot spool both engines up suddenly to max power, because if one were to then fail, you would have a very strong yaw moment induced, so they have to spool both up to 50 % and make sure both are nominal, before going on up to takeoff thrust

    Can someone please confirm that I am not imagining the front wheels raising off the runway on brake release!!

      birdshredder The nose gear tires are firmly planted and not in the air. What you are seeing from where you are filming is just an optical illusion from the shadow of the left wing and main gear looks to be beneath the nose gear causing it to appear as if it's floating above the ground but it's not. Look closely and then you will see what I'm saying. But however yes, at first glance it does trick the eye until you look closely and realize it's only the shadow cast from the left wing giving the false appearance of the nose gear in the air!

      flytheater my observation exactly,twice the distance of what new planes that are bigger and heavier and with only 2 engines are doing...

    No way is a 727 ever going to be as loud as an F-15. And yes, I've heard them both many times.

    Terrific high quality video of my favorite airliner. From maps I estimate you were about 3000 feet from where this 727 departed on runway 15. I'm sure you'd like to see my super 8mm film clip of 727 and 737 taking off from 50 feet (15 m) behind, while sitting on runway... enjoy the original smoker engines.
