I agree totally with you. There is a lot of poor writing with Charmed. It's like they forget what they wrote few seasons ago. For me the first 3 seasons are more authentic and dark. Later the series lost the "magic", and mostly it became a special effects show. Demons used to be unique in the begining, but after season 3 they were common people. Instead of having 3 sisters fighting evil in a city, they tried to make them something universal. But they still practiced magic inside the borders of a city. Why the Source cares for San Francisco, when he can have the rest of the Earth...? Prues death it was a huge mistake. The show lost from it. I could accept Paige joining them as a fourth sister though. I really like Charmed, but it had much more potential than this.
10000% agree that Phoebe's selfish motives played a role in Prue's death. However, I think she became worse in season 4. Where once again, she makes a selfish choice. And wasn't held accountable for CHOOSING to become Evil vs. Cole, who was possessed and had no choice. But, in the end, he was killed, and she was forgiven without an apology--followed up by season 5, which treats her like the victim, and him as the most vile creature to ever live. It annoys me how she did nothing but gaslight the poor guy the entire time he was trying to do good things. Granted, the writing for the character was ultimately all over the place. Nonetheless, I don't subscribe to Phoebe's victimhood.
Ok can we fkn talk about this because why the hell was she given a pass for constantly giving into her evil side, but Cole was treated like a piece of dog dook dook smeared on the grass???? Phoebe’s victim hood is irritating as hell
Don't know how I missed this, but 10000% agree!! Phoebe was really good for condemning others for making the same choices she herself did - although in Cole's case, being evil was never something he willing CHOSE.. - but yet gave herself a pass every single time she did it. And speaking of things Phoebe just gets a free pass on, I feel like it was always just kind of glossed over in the show how Phoebe lived off her sisters for years, even buying herself new clothes/makeup/new credit cards/etc, but the few times someone actually called her out on it she got all mad. It's like.. it's TRUE, Phoebe! There was no reason Phoebe couldn't have gotten a job to help out (it's even established that she had a job in New York!) she just didn't want to. I really wanted to like Phoebe, but the more selfish she got, the less I could stand her.. ):
@@BriChuhime-sama THIS 100%. If anything, you'd think Phoebe would be more SYMPATHETIC to what Cole had to go through, but no. Even PAIGE treated Cole better and she could barely stand him, so.. yeah. Phoebe was awful to him in season 5.
I blame the elders; the most powerful witches of all time didn't have a backup white lighter? The elders could have not intervened at any moment? Like the way the elders have genuinely let the charmed ones hanging is alarming
For real! The Elders were honestly borderline useless throughout the show. They're supposed to be so great and powerful, but whenever the sisters really need help, it's like.. "nothing we can do."
@@weirdlybeloved you know what's even more fucked up; the side of evil has genuinely, and canonically, helped the charmed ones more that the elders ever did. Also what were the points of having so many ways to stop exposure, the memory dust, cleaners, and even the demons that stop exposure, if they were never used in times like this
@@jsanto210 Oh my goodness, you're absolutely right! How is it that EVIL ended up helping them out more than the ELDERS?! And yeah, whatever happened to that memory dust?? Mentioned once and then just.. gone. I love Charmed, but it really had an issue remembering its own plot elements, especially in the later seasons.. :/
They kept treating them as ordinary witches and 3 of many, while also saying they are the most important. It was bonkers. In hindsight they should have been 3 of the most powerful, but not used the Chosen One Trope and made them The Charmed Ones, the most Powerful Witches In The Universe, its just asking for trouble story wise.
Exactly! And it's not the first (or the last) time Phoebe did it, either! She also had a habit of putting guys before her sisters, and it's like.. ugh. So frustrating.
Agreed! It's like when Shannen and Constance left the show, the execs were just like.. well, we're gonna do whatever we want now, and somehow did not understand why the ratings declined. They let the spirit of the show die with Prue, and imho, the least they could have done was bring Shannen back for the series finale, but.. noooope. 😔 *Edit; whoops, I said 'being' instead of 'bring.'
@@weirdlybeloved wait where do you get your information that ratings declined? I've heard Holly Marie Combs claim often that the ratings went up. And based on IMDB, out of the 10 highest rated episodes, 6 of them are from the Paige era
@@gregoryd5105 A combination of Metacritic and the ratings/reviews for Charmed that happened while the show was actually airing. They started dipping towards the end of season 5, and I used to wait with bated breath because the ratings and reviews I would read made me wonder if the show was even going to be renewed at all. And don't forget, ratings online can be paid for and padded to make a show look like they were doing better than they actually were. I wouldn't trust them too much.
@@weirdlybeloved hmm interesting. Yeah, well I think part of it also is that the actresses probably get confused over the timeline as well. Like I remember Rose years ago saying she hated season 5 because of how fairytale-esque it was, then recently in a panel she said it was her favorite, so I can only imagine she was thinking of another season. She also then said she loved her red hair in season 6, when her hair in season 6 was first blond, then brown, so she was probably thinking of season 5. Personally I understand why season 4 was considered one of the best by many, because I do share this opinion. However, I agree that Phoebe's part in the situation that led to Prue's death should have been addressed more. I always found it odd that Phoebe brings it up herself in the episode Hell Hath No Fury, telling Fury Piper to "admit it that she blames her for abandoning them", but Piper and Phoebe never have a conversation about it. Nor does Phoebe seem to have guilt over it. If she thinks Piper might feel this way, one can assume that Phoebe herself feels that way or can at least see how someone else would. Yet she doesn't seem to feel guilty.
@@gregoryd5105 Exactly! It always felt to me that even though Phoebe said that to Piper in Hell Hath No Fury, her lack of any real emotion or guilt behind the statement made me think that she actually didn't believe that at all; that it's something she just said to try to get through to Piper. But it's like, Phoebe.. it's actually kind of TRUE..
I’ve always blamed Phoebe (and Alyssa) for Prue’s death (and Shannen’s departure). Seriously this video is pretty much spot on. I believe it’s revealed the cleaners were created after the events of AHBL? I really do believe if Phoebe was less selfish as a character she would have saved her sister. I also think she was more close to Piper which is why Prue’s death never really made a huge impact on her which is fine because that’s life. I hate how the show glorified Phoebe later when she was the most coldest and insensitive character ever written lmao. Plus the whole injustice for Cole? Stringing him along? I always thought she’d be better being evil.
Agreed! It sounds like Alyssa is the one who went to the execs and told them to choose between her and Shannen, and it's like.. hmm. I've always wondered how true the rumors were that Shannen was difficult to work with on Charmed.. one of the guest stars from the show (Troxa) said she was really professional, and I can't help but wonder if the real problem wasn't Shannen.. And yeah, definitely. The way Phoebe treats people around her is just.. not okay. Especially when you consider that she did not have a job for the first half of the show, so it was actually very generous of Piper and Prue to support her the way they did, and Phoebe always just seemed to.. take it for granted. 😒
Phoebes character was absolutely awful in the seasons after Shannon left. The whole show honestly got terrible after. I noticed they constantly blamed and degraded the men, Leo, good cole , their son from the future. It was so annoying.
Omg, I just saw in my mind a show where Shannen stayed, Phoebe went evil with Cole, and Prue/Piper got Paige as their third sister... WAY more natural fit all around. I want to see another dimension where that version of the show happened.
@seana_momsen While it should have been true that the cleaners were created because of All Hell Breaks Loose, the think tank writers of this show did this instead: BARBAS: You have been assigned to watch The Charmed Ones since they first became witches, have you not? CLEANER 1: That is correct. BARBAS: Would Lieutenant Morris be the first policeman to die in order to clean up one of their little magical messes. CLEANER 1: No. PHOEBE: Uh-oh. [Scene from 1X22: Déjà vu All Over Again] [INT. (HOLOGRAM) MANOR - FOYER/MAIN HALL - DAY] (PIPER turns to check on PHOEBE.) PIPER: You ok? PHOEBE: Yeah. (PHOEBE'S eyes are glued to the damage in the next room. PIPER turns around and sees ANDY TRUDEAU on the floor.) PHOEBE: Ohh. (PIPER and PHOEBE run to check on ANDY.) PIPER: Oh, my god. He's dead. (End of Hologram. Resume to Tribunal Hall.) 🤦♀🤦♂🤦 So, yeah, it was established that the cleaners were around since the beginning. WTF????? How many charmed writers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Oh gosh someone is finally talking about it, she literally chose to go to the underworld knowing full well leo wouldn't be able to hear her, she knows in the underworld she's basically locked off from the world
Exactly! She did NOT have to go, as someone else said, while a threat was still present. And then, to make matters worse, she hung around down there even AFTER Cole was back! Cole can shimmer! Why not ask him to bring her back so she can at least check in?? Just.. ughhhhh.
@@GameOn71213 Not only that, but she left her sisters vulnerable RIGHT after an assassin was sent after them. Like??? You KNOW you and your sisters are under attack. You KNOW the Source is going to send another demon. Yet you... trollop off to the Underworld for some demon D x_x
This is the best episode of the show by a landslide, and knowing Shannen directed it makes it all the more cathartic I feel. The little hand holding sisterly details are definitely one of the best if not the best parts about the show, it just makes it feel more real! Phoebes character unfortunately started declining just like you said it’s so sad that she doesn’t recover until s8 when the show was at its lowest point.
Agreed! Shannen did an amazing job directing the episode! And yuss, season 8 Phoebe was the Phoebe I always wanted to see! It's just sad that she didn't show up until.. well, like you said, the show was at its lowest point.. I feel like I would have liked season 8 more if they had brought back Shannen for the finale (watching Paige finally meet Prue would have been a beautiful way to end the series) but I guess it just wasn't in the cards. :(
@@weirdlybeloved agreed, as Piper would say “it just wasn’t meant to be”. I did however get the opportunity to meet/ see Shannen at Rose together at 90s con so finally getting to see those two icons share a stage was like a 20 year long fulfillment.
@@weirdlybeloved Prue was meant to return in season 8 but apparently she declined bc she did not like how the writers wanted her to return and if it was just like her return in the comics i understand....
I always figured The Cleaners were created as a response to the season 3 finale. That would have made sense, and I loved the idea that because they’re “newly created beings” they’ve not susceptible to developing an emotional connection to the Charmed Ones in the same way the Angel Of Death, the Elders, and arguably, The Avatars, did. The Cleaners were brought into being for one purpose and one purpose only.
I wish they would have done that, that would have made a lot more sense! And agreed about the emotional connection! I actually really love the Angel of Death (Simon Templeman is amazing) and liked that they kept bringing him back. ❤️
@@tke8981 that’s if Phoebe had much guilt. Remember, the two of them had this really weird, fragile relationship and they never seemed to have a bond like each did with Piper. Idk, I know we saw her cry at the funeral, but I can’t help but feel like she didn’t really feel that much guilt over what she did.
@@BriChuhime-sama Its just bad writing, as seasons go on it got worse, but they wanted us to think she felt guilt and her choices were relatable, but they werent. But TV has often had the heroes doing bad things, the exact same things as they villains they fight, but framed as good, or understandable.
Unfortunately, the idea that the cleaners were created because of AHBL is blatantly contradicted in the episode 6X19: CRIMES AND WITCH DEMEANORS. BARBAS: You have been assigned to watch The Charmed Ones since they first became witches, have you not? CLEANER 1: That is correct. The cleaners go on to present a clip from season 1 where Andy died. And literally nobody, not even the sisters question this? Where were they when magic was exposed on live TV? Nor does anyone question the choice by the elders to seek demonic help instead of insisting the cleaners do their job?
I've always blamed Phoebe. She was always so selfish and putting herself first all the time. I'll always say Prue (Shannon) should have stayed. I can't ever forgive Phoebe for Prue's death. Like I believe that the sisters would've been better off had it been Phoebe instead. I always wanted to see a Prue/Piper/Paige storyline arc because I felt like Phoebe was always kinda mean to Paige.
Right? Several people have said that Phoebe was really good to Paige, and it's like.. yeah, she was very welcoming of Paige as a sister, but.. when it came to disagreements and stuff, especially about Cole, Phoebe could be downright nasty. I'm with you ~ Prue/Piper/Paige would have worked better.. at least Prue probably would have been fair to Paige as opposed to Phoebe, who was "nice" until one of her sisters stood between her and what she wanted. Then her true colors showed.
@@weirdlybelovedI agree with you!!! Like the time paige told phoebe cole was turning evil and cole was making it look like Paige was crazy and phoebe just ignored paige. Plus in S8 paige was hearing a charge call for help and phoebe said just said ignore it when it’s not that easy to ignore a cry for help. Everyone goes out of their way to forget about Phoebe being the worst sister (and person, out of all four of them, tbh) because she's hot. Zero character growth, plenty of character regression. I loved her when I was a kid, but now that I'm older and can realize how genuinely awful she is? Oof. Justice for the victims of Phoebe Halliwell, especially Cole and Prue.
I haven't started watching the video yet but just seeing the title I was absolutely thrilled. And I wanna say THANK YOU ! For raising this topic. Especially when she leaves her pregnant sister to fight demons to sort out her divorce issues and she has the nerve to blame her for freaking out over the same type of demon that killed their mother 😡 And she end up "vanquishing" Cole anyway, so it was all for nothing 🤬
Thank you! And right?! Phoebe spends most of the series being SUPER selfish, and then has the nerve to get mad at anyone who calls her out on it! And the most bizarre thing is that Phoebe did not have a job for the first 3 and a half seasons, but always had new clothes, makeup, etc. But somehow she never seemed to appreciate any of it and would just complain about everyone and everything else.. 🫠
I always blamed Phoebe too. She was always more worried about getting some d than the power of three. Even when Prue died, she didn’t go through half what she went through when she and Cole broke up. All her character did was be selfish and make sexy eyes. Smh
Oh wow.. I never even noticed that, but you're right!! She showed WAY more emotion and grief over Cole than she ever did with Prue! Honestly, the more you think about Phoebe, the more you realize just how selfish she really is..
@@weirdlybeloved I honestly just blame the actor for being bad rather than the character of Phoebe, even. I don't think Milano was good enough to put aside her smug feelings over having 'won' (but really lost because of how the show declined, and viewers lost out too) in order to portray the sadness of losing a sister. Another indicator, to me, that Shannen was the one who cared about the show rather than high school clique nonsense.
Seeeeee!!!! The contrast of mourning between a sister and a boyfriend is why I believe she really wasn’t remorseful nor did she feel guilt about her hand in Prue’s death. Just….. girl your boyfriend was a demon was the wee wee THAT good???
@@BriChuhime-sama Right?! I always thought it was so weird that in a show that is centered on SISTERHOOD that Phoebe constantly showed way more emotion about losing her boyfriend than her sister DYING.. PS the 'wee wee' comment has me dyiiiing ~ I actually choked on my food reading that 😂😂😂
@@weirdlybeloved I mean as much as my sister and I fight, if she died tomorrow, I’d have to be in a hospital because I’d be trying to follow suit. Oof.. I never thought of it that way, but I agree! I know it takes two to tango, but there does seem to be a lot of evidence supporting the idea that Alyssa is the one who thought one of them needed to go.. 🤔
I heard years ago that Alyssa was the one that issued the ultimatum. I truly believe that, especially given how focused on Phoebe the show was in season 4.
@@weirdlybelovedit's even sadder cause they ended season 3 not knowing how season 4 would play out if they would bring back prue and kinda wrote the finale while the drama hit its peak...which is why it is a mess...you can blame everyone
Yep I agree, Phoebe and Cole were the the downfall of the OG power of three. You could even see the beginnings of this in the "Power Outage" episode. That episode is framed as a redemption point for Cole, but it really shows how Cole puts an unrelenting strain on the sister's relationship. "Power Outage" also shows how Phoebe puts her sister in horrible positions when blinded by what was at that point still infatuation and lust.
Fr. I just got done rewatching the end of season three and it was just.. awful how little she cared about her sisters in comparison to Cole. There was one scene where Prue had been knocked out cold by having a dresser fall on her and Phoebe doesn't even care. She literally says, "wake her up, I've gotta get back to Cole." 🙄
When it came to Cole she was just unreasonable. She almost got her sisters killed AGAIN because of him even after this whole thing she just NEVER LEARNT. What mad me more mad was how she was so against Piper and Leo getting married cause she didn't want the elders possibly punishing her too because they broke the rules forget the bit about them being soulmates like, double standard much? I could go on and on 🙄. Prue, Piper, and Page would have been a much better trio sorry I said it 🤭.
Right?! I just rewatched Magic Hour and couldn't believe Phoebe's hypocrisy! Especially since it's highly unlikely the Elders would have seriously hurt them, whereas that was Cole's entire PLAN.. There was also a scene in the season 2 premiere right after Abraxas steals the book where Phoebe is appalled at Prue wanting to go into work when there's a crisis on hand, and it's like.. oh, I guess it's only okay when YOU decide there's something more important than witch duties, eh, Phoebe? I enjoy Phoebe's character, I think she's really funny, but.. sometimes I just want to kick her. 😤
@weirdlybeloved same, she is a likable person but she is such a hypocrite and selfish. I mean they did make it clear she was the youngest and kinda follows the beat of her own drum but it got old fast for me.
Ouuuu this makes me feel like there was more resentment between all of the sisters than what we saw phoebe hating on piper & leo, prue hating on phoebe & Cole although they’re reasoning was different prue didn’t want phoebe with him bc he’s evil phoebe didn’t want piper with Leo bc it could effect her negatively maybe being selfish was just a character trait for her bc she sure stuck to it until like s8
Some valid points here, it would be good to include phoebe was self aware of her mistake and she fends off the furies in season 4 she states to piper that it’s her fault prue died she blames her and that’s why piper became a fury Phoebe worked so much harder at her relationship with Paige as her second chance to be better sister
Oh wow! It's been so long since I saw the furies episode I didn't even remember she said that until now! Idk about her trying that hard with Paige tho.. I mean, yes, she was very good to Paige and automatically welcomed her as a sister, I just really didn't like the way she treated Paige when it came to Cole. Paige saw right through Cole very early on, and Phoebe automatically doubts her, being consistently nasty throughout season 3 and 4 to anyone who questions Cole. You'd think she would have learned from going through the same situation with Prue, but.. apparently not.
@@45jordan78 I definitely got that vibe, too, that they wanted to keep Cole but didn't know what to do with him. It's cool that the sisters finally vanquished him for good in the 100th episode, but.. honestly, they just should have let him die at the end of season 4 and been done with it.
Damn good question, and to be honest I always did both in and out of character, becouse it was Phoebe's idiotic idea to go to Undrwarld to fetch Cole KNOWING Shax is still out there and that her older sisters NEED her ungrateful a$$, and she took Leo the designated healer with her 🤬. To be honest Charmed after Shannen left died for me, and AUs (alternative universes) I was into were once where it's Phoebe who ends up dead, I might be evil for that but I don't care, to me it was always Alyssa who should be thrown out, not Shannen, but guess that being overly friendly with your bosses gives you privileges :/
Right?! Even if Phoebe was fool enough to take off to the underworld before confirming whether Shax was actually dead or not, that does not explain why their one and ONLY whitelighter decided it was a good idea to go after her, in the one place he can't hear the sister's calls! That will never NOT bother me.

She'd be right there in that mess of a room with everyone else's cluttered desks or cubicles and the main editor would have an office. She's not "important" enough for her own office, even if she's popular with the public. Not without magic involved, at least. Or script writers 😅
Omigosh, you're so right!! I never thought about how bizarre it is that Phoebe is the only one at the newspaper (besides the ACTUAL boss, Elise) that has her own office, but it really is so weird! I totally blamed Phoebe!! I'm so glad I'm not alone on that. I stopped watching after season 3. And Charmed Again parts 1 and 2. But only 1 episode in season 5, that was when Cole himself became an Avatar so he could get Phoebe back. And the season 7 final, the first episode of season 8 and final episode of season 8
I'm pretty sure that the season finale for Season 3 when Prue dies was written with the finale being a cliffhanger not knowing if one or both of the sisters die. Shannon directed that episode. Apparently, they were hoping both would return the following fall if they could fix things between AM/SD. However, due to conflicts, AM made an ultimatum, either she goes or I'll go. Ultimately, SD decided to leave. That is the exact reason why Season 4's premiere seemed disconnected. In my case, I thought "Did I miss something? Did I miss an episode?" I double checked the ending/beginning for Seasons 3/4. As well as, I did research etc. At the time, I couldn't find anything reliable that mentioned the backstory. That's why Prue is already dead and her death wasn't shown. In addition, the network refused to allow Shannon to return or even allow anything that would represent her. This was because written into Shannon's contract was clause that if any video picture, or the sound of her voice or anything of hers was shown in the series the network had to pay her and it was a decent amount each time. So yes, everything you said about Phoebe is true to an extent. You have take into consideration that Phoebe was evil in her previous life so in her current life she struggled between being good and evil. That wss suppose to have been part of her karma. Now, I'm pretty sure that the decision to strip Phoebe of her active powers was not part of the storyline originally. However, shooting those scenes took an enormous amount of time. More than any of the other active powers scenes. Prue and Piper's active powers didn't require anything but a flick or wave of an arm, hand, fingers, squint of the eyes and the motion of two hand coming together. Then the special effects would be added later in post production. Phoebe's scenes required harnesses, wires, the physical gymnastics and because it was physically an active power it required Phoebe to be present through out the entire scene. It was physically more demanding and harder to shoot logistically which was affecting the show's budget. I believe that's why they decided to write those specific mistakes for Phoebe so her loss of active powers would be explained and not just disappear. I may not be 100% correct but I'm pretty sure that's close to what happened behind the scenes. Overall there was a lot of problems with the entire cast and producers and creators with the actual Network. I'm sure you're aware of some if not all the issues involved.
You know, I always wondered why they categorically refused to ever show Prue on the show again, even in flashbacks, and I can't believe it was simply because they just didn't want to have to pay her. I would understand if it was later seasons after the budget was cut, but like.. for a show that has a strong sisterhood theme to just pretty much act like one of those sisters just never existed is.. in really poor taste, imho. And if you ask me, Alyssa should have been the one to go as she's the one who issued the ultimatum and with Shannen being on the show FIRST (and as you said, even beginning to direct on the series) it just seems really unfair that she ended up being pushed out of a show you can tell she was really passionate about. 😔
@@weirdlybeloved- The network never gave the show the credit it deserved. It never highlighted the show as the highest rated in any network promotions by any means. Charmed saved the network pretty much from folding when the WB sold it to CW which allowed them to build the network. Charmed never received from the network any help including a budget befitting the results the series returned. This is most evident with the reboot. That wasn't a reboot that was plagiarism at it's best and a slap in the face to the original series which includes it's creators and stars. I believe that network still for some reasons doesn't recognize what made Charmed such a huge hit and continues to be very successful in syndication across all platforms finding generations of new fans. So they "rebooted" it as they are once again in financial trouble. As far as the issues between AM/SD, and do like them both equally and I have known them as actresses in their own right since they were children. SD at the end made the decision to leave regardless of Alyssa's ultimatum. However, Alyssa has been in the industry since age of 5/6 nailing a leading part in the Broadway show "Annie" when her babysitter took her to an open casting call without her discussing it with parents and Alyssa had no experience. The show "Annie" was just about to tour around the country/world so her mother had to resigned from her job to accompany Alyssa for two years or so on the tour. Immediately after she was casted as Samantha on "Who's The Boss". So she's been working almost nonstop and I never have heard of her being difficult on any set and no scandals or gossip offset. Alyssa managed to avoid the pitfalls that so many in the business do not besides the issue of being typecast as Samantha. However, she managed to successfully transition as adult star with some difficulty and has continues to work with great success. For that I give her a lot a credit. At the height of her teen years during "Who's The Boss", Alyssa managed to have a very successful singing career abroad mostly in Japan. She recorded multiple award winning albums and sold out multiple tours. She simultaneously produced and starred in a successful direct to video fitness series. With all that success, Alyssa also started working with charities to not only raise awareness to their causes but literally donated her time and money. As a teen star with so much attention and power Alyssa had the self awareness to ground herself to find the time to travel to countries were she'd be in the first line with people who needed help from life threatening circumstances. She continues her charitable work and I believed she been given the honor of being named as an ambassador of UNICEF. Shannen on the other hand, had a bad girl rep for being difficult onset and offset. I'm not judging bcuz she is very talented and the fact that Aaron Spelling fired her at the height of BH 90210 but then called her and gave her the lead role in Charmed while he fought the network to allow her to do it speaks volumes of her immense talent bcuz that's unheard of in such a fickle industry. Who knows if Shannen had double-down and never resigned who they would've fired. Personally, I think Alyssa would have won bc she has the same amount in my opinion star power as Shannen without the baggage. Keeping Alyssa would have mostly like been a safer choice for less drama regardless of who they casted to be the 3rd (4th) Charmed One. Truth be told, AM and RM didn't get along either but they still managed to work together for 5 years. That shows that Alyssa can remain profession regardless of personal differences. I don't think at the time based on Shannen's history that the same could have been said about her. RM stepped into a very difficult situation thank God she was able to thrive giving us 5 more years of Charmed. Nothing is perfect so I take that into consideration and still love the show for what it was, is and could have been if Shannen had remained for the duration.
The series finale was terrible in the sense that it was the perfect way of bringing Prue back, comsidering they went back in time and everyone else appeared. But theyll blame it on the budget. I would have rather it end with season 7, keep the OG characters amd bring Shannen back.
@@jenm6476 That's what I thought! Shannen should have been in the finale 100% even if they had to pay out of their own pockets to make it happen - they should have recognized that it wasn't about the money or the drama/bad blood.. it was about giving the fans and viewers who stuck with the show the closure they never got with season 3. But nope.. as you said.. the BuDgEt. -_-
I may have missed it but can someone explain why the sisters were the ones blamed for the exposure by the magical community when it was Shax who attacked them (twice) in public.
Right? All I can think is that it was just bad writing, because Shax was the Source's personal assassin so he definitely knew a thing or two about strategy and laying low.. that's why he followed them to the manor in the first place, instead of attacking them the minute they took Dr. Griffiths ~ but then he apparently does a 180 and decides to attack them publicly not once but twice? It's always possible that the spell Phoebe read injured more than just his body, but.. it definitely seems like a plot hole that just gets ignored.
@@carly7522 now I can subscribe to this simply because if Shax goes public, Magic gets exposed which means Phoebe goes underground and with a time reset, he can knock out the power of three. It’s actually genius omfg….
Me too! Like you said, she's such a mess, and it's sad that even though Paige came into the magic world three/four years after Phoebe, within two years she had already passed Phoebe in terms of responsibility with magic. ☠️
@@weirdlybeloved one is called Blame Phoebe By: Paigeriffic The Angel of Destiny pays another visit to the Manor. The reward is a dream come true for two sisters...and a nightmare for the other.
Prue was SUPPOSED to be in season 4 ! On other Charmed videos commenters reference Shannen interacting with Australian chat room fans over the summer of 2001 expressing excitement for the upcoming fourth season . It was only when Alyssa reinforced her threat to quit did producers fire Shannen over the phone in the middle of the night, in another country . This is why they never got permission for an image of her. This also might explain why this episode feels abruptly edited. There is a strange theory AHBL was supposed to be two hours, and had to be edited down (?)
@@mikey_g5021 Sort of? I covered it more fully in my follow-up video, but Shannen tried to leave and they told her no, then they did a 180 while she was off filming for a different project and were like "actually, no, you're fired." Real nice people, huh?
@@weirdlybeloved this was from the video of Shannen alone during a comic con talking about why she left . You show a clip in the next charmed video you post . In the COMMENTS of that ORIGINAL video ( she is wearing a yellow sweater and boots) fans reference the Australian thing .
I don't blame her for the death specifically but I was mad at her for going underground and letting Prue go thru Pipers death alone and everything that went wrong that day, if she had been there they could have been all spared a LOT of pain. She was always selfish tho, wasn't that surprised she did that.
Piper stays silent on the topic because she got popped by Jeremy the warlock so she can’t speak on it the way Prue does and she’s always rooted for Cole’s human side like Prue and Paige did. Phoebe was the worst. I think Coke is a better person than Phoebe.
I think you stated the reason why Phoebe wasn't blamed, even when Prue had a feeling Shax wasn't eliminated, Piper reassured her that he was (which would also put some blame on her). The way that i see it, Phoebe going to search for Cole without waiting for confirmation Shax was gone for good makes sense, because they couldn't possibily keep everything on hold to make sure everything was fine because life is unpredictable.
True, putting everything on hold indefinitely wouldn't have worked, but I don't see why Phoebe couldn't even wait to hear back from Leo when he went to ask the Elders about Shax, you know? Phoebe took off immediately after he did, but she only would have had to wait a couple of hours to get the all-clear.
@@weirdlybeloved while it's true that Phoebe could have waited to go look for Cole, i don't feel like her not doing so is a reason to blame her. Looking at the episode, the reason why Phoebe went to the underworld was because even though Prue had mixed feeling about the situation, Piper used her new power to "eliminate" Shax, which led them all to think the girls were more powerful then the previous generations who needed the spell to destroy Shax. So if anything, all of them would have to be blamed, not just Phoebe.
@@angeldelmoroable Oh, I agree ~ all three girls definitely made bad decisions in this episode (like chasing Shax out into the street in the first place) but in Phoebe's case, she has a long history of doing things like this and imho it was only a matter of time before it led to tragedy.
@@angeldelmoroable cole is a grown man and had very powerful demonic powers, he could have taken care of himself. The power of Three was left vulnerable without her, also when Cole wanted to stay away from the funeral Phoebe guilted him into staying, causing the funeral to be disrupted by a demon hunting for Cole, that was very disrespectful
still, you can't left work unfinished, and their priority should always be to make sure the innocent is out of harms way - sometimes you have to put life on hold until the deed is done - that's what it means to a) an adult & b) professional - and only actual adult was Prue - Phoebe never ever felt an incling of remorse for her selfishness & irresponsibility - she ran away in the first place & she never made amends for breaking up with her sisters, there's not one genuine bone on her body - Phoebe is just her ego, and Piper becomes the same after Prue's death
Here's the thing, I always considered Cole the seed that planted Phoebe's worst character decisions in the following seasons. In the first two seasons, sure Phoebe was impulsive and reckless, but it always felt like she had a heart for what she was doing, even when she could be selfish to see the intent with her. Plus her being the most into magic expired that balance between those who loved magic as a sense of fulfillment and those who struggled with the balance. I do think Phoebe improves in the first half of season 4, because the less icky parts about her and Cole's relationship were toned down and when they were focused on it was more of relatable circumstances, like the cold feet of marriage. Phoebe's suspicion of evil Cole was also toned down, as she was fully committed to him being good and when the conflict of him being evil was brought up she defends him in a positive way. However after they vanquish the source she turns back into her season 3 self only done worse and doesn't really recover as a character. This storyline ultimately unlocked the worst aspects of her character that would define her motivations later prioritizing dates and her column over everything else , dates defined her character too much and she became too perfect with her job and becomes so self centered to even the point of being condescending. She is easily my least favorite sister. I too somewhat blame her for Prue's death.
Very true! Like you said, Phoebe was reckless and impulsive in the first couple seasons, but.. for the most part, she knew where the line was. After meeting Cole, it's pretty much like, 'what line?' She did whatever she wanted and always complained if she had to deal with consequences or backlash as a result. Idk if I agree with the part about dealing with the suspicion of Cole in a positive way, though.. she definitely got pretty nasty about it at times, and going so far as to say "Screw the Power of Three" was like.. really Phoebe? Way to be a brat lol And yeah, after they got rid of the Source, it just became ridiculous. And what was with getting rid of the Source mid-season anyway?? I saw someone say that it was actually meant to be the season 4 finale and the Cole stuff was meant to be in season 5, which honestly sounds so much better, but the way they did it just felt SO rushed and.. anti-climactic, imo.
@@weirdlybeloved To elaborate. When it comes to Season 4A the first 13 episodes, Phoebe is fine. Outside of the opener with her selfness leading to Prue's funeral being ruined, she isn't that bad. And when their relationship is focused on, it was shown to be through relatable instances. Like Phoebe struggling with the decision to be a wife, they even meet an innocent who's husband Cole had killed in the past when he was evil, Phoebe doesn't actually blame Cole and instead defends him. Not in the dense, blind way she usually did, but through genuine realization. In fact that's really all I can think of, after the source is vanquished in episode 13 and he focus is on Phoebe and Cole she became obnoxious, with the worst offender being he ghost episode and her character became self absorbed and defined by dates, with her plotlins repeating themselves. She also doesn't treat any of the men she's with well either, her relationship after Cole for instance has her cheating on Jason and with Cole she bordered on domestic and emotional abuse of Cole in season 5. Phoebe becomes just the worst, and its worse when she became an advice columnist, as she often used it as an excuse to ignore her duties. I'm interested to see more Charmed topic videos from you. haha I will say I disagree with Season 4 being the downfall, it actually fits right in with the first 3 seasons, sharing the same cinematogprahy style with Season 3.
I'll never understand how Prue and Piper didn't see the reporter and camera man. You could tell by the angle of the shot that they were standing right across the street from them.
Right? I don't hate Phoebe, but the way she would always leave her sisters in the lurch in favor of guys was downright disgusting at times. Like when they were all infected by sin in season 3.. Phoebe was getting it on during a crisis AND tried to seduce her sister's HUSBAND just to get some d, and it's like.. funny how Phoebe was the only one affected that was willing to hurt a sister over it. 😮💨
Yeah.. she stripped him of his demon side (and only means of defending himself even though they're constantly under attack) and then expected him to jump into acting like an "adult," including getting a job, even though she herself spent the first half of the show without one. ☠️
@@haleyweirdwolf The Seer did trick him into becoming the Source, but Idk if she could have done it without Phoebe stripping his demonic side. When the Seer was asked where the powers went, she said "into the void," referring to the void where his demonic half had been.

Oh my god, the cleaners. Haha, you're right. The problem with this episode is that Shannon had to leave the show. This episode should have been written way better. Don't get me wrong, the scenes with Prue and Piper after Piper gets shot are so emotionally amazing. I balled through all of it. But in retrospect, this episode is not as tight as it should have been. Good call.
Right?? I had a whole section about the scene in the hospital where Piper dies and how raw and gut-wrenching it is, but turns out that scene is SUPER copyright protected and I had to cut it, but.. I wish I could have left it in, because you're right ~ they're amazing! I can't watch those scenes without crying. 🥺
Thanks for great analysis of “All Hell Breaks Loose”. I would give Prue most of the blame for the events that led to her own death. Running after Shax in broad daylight was risky. Prue was right to kick the wannabe witch out of her house, but she could have done it more gently and not made an unnecessary enemy. Finally, after Piper was shot, unleashing destructive magic on the innocents in her way was wrong, even with her sister’s life at stake. Although Prue made multiple blunders, I have nothing but praise for Doherty’s acting and directing in this episode, which arguably made this the best episode in a very strong season. My favorite seasons were 3, 4, and 5; mainly because I am a big fan of the Cole character and McMahon’s acting in this series.
@@michaelpustilnik6914 Thank you very much! And fair points ~ I think Phoebe was a very self-centered character, but as the show went on Prue went from being the responsible one to the most reckless, and it was only a matter of time before that caught up with her. But yuss, Shannen was definitely a master of her craft! I really wish she'd gotten to work on more episodes because the ones she directed are some of the BEST Charmed had to offer!
Hey, I love this!! Many people who comment on charmed just seem to… bore me? But your realistic take and your voice itself is like listening to a very well done podcast!

I'm sorry but I was with you until you said season 5 was better than 4........ Everyone has their opinion, but OMG no way! That was the season where they completely revamped the show to be less about the sisters and more about the costumes and took away Cole and replaced scary demons with fairy tales. No no no no no
Very true! I guess I just found season 4 so boring that it was nice to feel interested again, haha. I mostly like stuff with Piper being pregnant and the episodes Sympathy for the Demon, A Witch in Time, and Centennial Charmed. Stuff like Witches in Tights and Nymphs Just Want to Have Fun though? Absolutely not. And isn't season 5 the one where they actually had Alyssa Milano give Julian McMahon a lap dance? Like, dude.. just no.
@@GameOn71213 I just wish it wasn't centered on Phoebe and Cole and their will they/won't they relationship so much. It's like, we already did this in season 3.. do we really have to watch another 22 episodes of this? I also prefer season 5 Paige over season 4 Paige, lol. She was funny, and I loved her hair.
@@weirdlybelovedI liked both season 4 and 5 I remember the fifth season more the most when I was younger, season 4 is the last dark season before it got light with the costumes and like fairy tale creatures. There’s some good episodes in season 5 but there’s some god awful ones too. Prue was my favourite but I didn’t mind Paige she gave the show something different
CURRECT!!!!! The show died after season 3, however 4 wasn't bad and a handful of episodes in 5 and 6 are passable while drunk. The Romeo and Juliet storyline between Phoebe and Cole was greattttttttttttt at first before he became a simp. Phoebe's whora-mones led her to shirk her responsibilities as a Charmed one and that led her sisters to get crushed by that muscled surf with the bad weave.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Right? I know it's a female-led show, but I don't understand why that meant all the guys ended up essentially puppets on a string, either. Even Leo, who was really cool at first, went the same way eventually.. 😮💨
I think what often happens is people think that in order to have strong women characters they need to be surrounded by weak men. But you can have both. You don't need to 'weaken' or diminsh one sex to show off another.
Personally, Phoebe has always been my least favorite sister even back when the show was airing, in fact she would easily make my list of worst characters of all time, and this is only one of many reasons. She was fine in the first two seasons, but her romance with Cole really planted the seeds for the ugliest parts of her personality, like her obsession with dates and abandoning her duties, which become defining aspects of her character in every following season, alongside an inflated sense of self-importance and lack of self-awareness. I understand that Cole was her first, like long-term relationship as stated by the show and what people like using to defend her, and while I understand that I feel it regresses the reason Phoebe moved back in with her sisters in the first place. In season 1, it was stated Phoebe wasn't exactly the most responsible or pleasant person, given by callbacks to her past, I mean look at the reunion episode in Season 6, as a teen she was yikes. lol And this kind of attitude did cause a strain on her relationship with her sisters, especially Prue who only ever had that vision of her, so much of Prue's attitude toward Phoebe was because that was the image she had of Phoebe, but by season 3 Prue opens up and no longer saw Phoebe that way, but when it came to Cole she regressed back to irresponsible and caused problems for everyone, including Cole himself. She would always have this odd dual personality shift when it came to Cole, one episode would have Phoebe obsess over him unconditionally to where she causes conflict with her sisters about it if they had concerns, the next moment she hates Cole and condemns he's evil. It always felt as if Phoebe couldn't validate Cole doing anything bad or evil unless SHE was the one accusing him of such. And when she did do it, she would make decisions or marred him from every improving as a person, she'd just go to the worst option, just put blame and create situations where he wasn't able to improve, like instead of just giving him the power stripping potion, she breaks it. And when it comes to this episode, Prue's suspicion about Cole and Phoebe ignoring her was basically their dynamic throughout this season, Prue and even Piper to an extent, repeatedly expressed growing annoyance at this situation, with Prue giving the explanation in this episode that it is hard for them to be supportive when she puts herself in this repetitive cycle. This same annoying attitude of hers in this episode, reminded me of the previous episode where she felt very hesitant to help her sisters, as she slowly climbs off a staring rail very clumsily and hesitantly, then doesn't even check on Prue, she just rushes back to attend Cole. Speaking of, I feel Prue and Phoebe's bond somewhat declined as a result of Phoebe's character change, since seasons 1 and 2 were able building back that bond, like sure its Charmed there are sister moments there, but the way Phoebe would act around Prue when it came to Cole was more like an immature teenage daughter trying to be sneaky or rebellious against their disapproving mother,, this is no better shown than in the beginning of Sleuthing with the Enemy, in the beginning I can somewhat see it on Phoebe's part, as Prue was kind of in the wrong herself and as an empath did set the bar for them being an item. But as the season progressed Prue got better about trusting Cole, yet Phoebe always found a way to take a jab at her any way. This is why post season 2 I prefer her in season 4A, aka the first 13 episodes of season 4, because she isn't focusing on Cole that way, and when they are focused on as a couple the negative parts of the dynamic are toned down. And don't even get me started on how this relationship regresses into Season 5, where Phoebe borders on mental and physical abuse toward Cole, no awareness is ever given by the narrative or characters about anything she did wrong, and it lasts way too long. I honestly have a hard time deciding over weather Seasons 5, 6 or 7 has Phoebe at her worst, as she's awful in all of these seasons. They all highlight the most annoying aspects of her character and make it present in some way. Phoebe also just had the worst storylines of all the sisters, which became the most focused in regard to the sisters starting from Season 4B. I'm also with you that the show declined in quality past season 4. For many reasons, actually. Especially with their infamously laughable episodes like Once in a Blue Moon, which has the added bonus of making every Charmed One unlikable with Paige being the worst. Happily Ever After or the emphasis on using plots as an excuse to turn the girls into something scandalous, which weirdly season 8 reversed. I'm also the same as you in that Piper is my favorite sister with Paige as close second, but honestly Piper could be just as bad as Phoebe at times and made it hard to really like her, especially her treatment of Leo in Seasons 5-8, which declined their relationship for me ngl. Especially in Season 8 where Piper is at her worst. As much as II love Charmed, I also consider it the worst offender of the 'I want a normal life' trope. And I get where this comes from, Superhero genres use it as the motherboard for their storytelling, you want to have these elements to create drama, but when it came to the Charmed Ones in later seasons, it felt like every little thing involving magic was an inconvenience for them, as opposed to it affecting something major in their lives. And that doesn't create a scenario where I want to relate to the protagonists, it just makes them seem like miserable people who complain at the slightest inconvenience, mostly Piper. I mean take Spiderman for instance, there were times where he quit or questions if being Spiderman is worth it, because yeah it does affect his life and even has consequences for his loved ones, Spiderman practically woves its plot around this thread, but the difference is that Peter never feels like everything around him is an inconvenience like they do, especially Phoebe who uses dates or her column as a quick 'bail out of this situation' card any chance she gets, like she's waiting to use it. Which is what she does in this episode with Cole for instance. It's like having that one impatient person in an important meeting where the moment breaks or something unrelated to the meeting happens, they are the first ones out the door, Phoebe always felt TOO eager or TOO willing to abandon her responsibilities.
Thank you so much for this! You said this all so eloquently, and I couldn't agree more! Especially about Piper ~ she will always be my favorite sister, but the way she treated Leo in later seasons was downright toxic at times. I get that she had genuine frustrations with him, but sometimes it almost felt like she would bully him just because she could.. if that makes sense? And you're definitely right about season 8, too ~ tbh, Piper was almost as bad as Christy in the way that once she even got the inkling Billie and Christy were trouble, she wanted to kill them. No talking it over, considering stripping their powers.. she went straight to the nuclear option, and it's like.. jeez, Piper, when did you get so bloodthirsty? :/ But yeah, Phoebe was just.. she had her good points, but ultimately she was probably the most selfish character in the show. Especially with the way she lived off of Piper and Phoebe the first couple seasons, buying herself new clothes/makeup/credit cards/etc., but would throw a hissy fit the few times anyone dared to bring it up. It's like, Phoebe, really.. what's stopping you from getting a job? You had one in New York, no? And you didn't go back to school until season 3, so.. yeah. But the funny thing is that I bet if the situation were reversed, Phoebe would have been the first one to throw it in Piper or Prue's face every chance she got. -_-
@@weirdlybeloved That was actually a major issue I had with the Jenkins storyline, even if Christy herself was far gone, no effort of any of the Charmed Ones was made for that conclusion to even be a factor, it was just Christy was evil, and needed to be stopped. The Charmed Ones don't try to save Christy from the influence of the Triad, even though they were aware they brainwashed her. Phoebe was the only one who tried talking things out, but Piper just went into kill mode the moment she heard defeating Billie and Christy would get Leo back, she didn't consider any other option. Especially when how awful she was to Leo in the first half of the Season, especially that scene in Kill Billie Vol 1! Piper is at her worst there! I also didn't like how the focus on relationships overtook Phoebe's character progression, as whenever she would make an effort to progress as a character it always had to involve or end with the same repetitive love cycle again where her "experience" with said dude was so she would believe in love again, it also felt more like this was something that HAD to happen, as if she needed a man to be complete, even to the point like Season 7 and 8 she was forcing and abusing her premonitions that focused on that goal just to make it happen. I especially didn't like how she chose to go about the Leslie or Dex situations.
Honestly, she could've been the one who died because after that. Phoebe was being unreasonable and so bad! I always imagined if Prue hadn't died and met Paige. I swear, they could've had the best dynamic along with Piper. The storyline would've been so good!!!
If Phoebe didn’t choose Cole yet again over her sisters she could of been there to save prue, as Phoebe stayed in the underworld and they couldn’t call Leo nothing could be done in time to save prue.
Things that mad this finally good was the drama and suspense but what made it bad was the writing and out of character moments. Prue decided this episode not to use her powers to move the innocent or reflect the demon's powers back at him, no flashback of why they went to save the doctor or on it or Phoebe's premonition. Why would they go chasing after Shax without Phoebe? A divide and conquer story works if it makes sense but this didn't.
Season 3 last episode I balled my eyes out. Excellent acting from Shannen and Holly. Alyssa on the other side meh. Season 4 never gives me the feeling that Phoebe was mourning. Another great scene is the one with Paige and Piper that are on the morgue and Piper cries and is angry with Prue for dying. I totally agree that the chemistry was unmatched in the first three seasons ❤
Omigosh, yes! All Hell Breaks Loose has such great acting from Holly and Shannen, and so does Be Careful What You Witch For imo! Especially the scene where Piper dies in the hospital, man.. that was so heartbreaking! 💔

I watched this show with my Mum as a child (like 3-around 5yrs old) before it stopped airing on the local tv network and caught up with it in my teens. All I could remember was my 'unexplained' hatred for Phoebe and absolutely despising Paige coz I didn't want to believe Prue was gone forever. Piper was always my fave😊 Fast forward to rewatching it 10 yrs later and I just couldn't stand Phoebe's recklessness(and found the answer to why I hated her) I totally blame her for Prue both on and off screen! I love Paige now and honestly I wish it was Phoebe who died so we got Prue, Piper and Paige...
Yay! A fellow Piper fan! She's the best! 🥰 And right? It's amazing to me how many people seem to think all of the bad blood behind the scenes of the show was all Shannen's fault, and Alyssa apparently did nothing..? I'm with you; Phoebe had a hand it what happened to Prue both on and off screen!
@@weirdlybeloved Piper wasn’t completely bad in the earlier seasons, but constantly blowing up Leo when she was mad in certain episodes did not sit right with me. They are a couple yet she uses her powers in an abusive manner and gets upset when people disagree with her later on. She was sympathetic, kind, and relatable in the beginning but toward the end of the show she wasn’t completely great either. Paige honestly became more relatable, responsible, had character growth, and admirable qualities. Phoebe and to some extent Piper became very selfish 😅 They kept complaining about how their charmed duties kept them from their personal lives. If they truly want to stop being Charmed Ones they could have been stripped of, transferred to someone else or given up their powers. I respected and liked Prue because she never used her job as an excuse to not perform her Charmed Duties. She managed to balance her work and Charmed responsibilities. Phoebe constantly blew off her Charmed duties for dates, guys, and work. She came of as narcissistic most of the later seasons and even as an empath she saw it more as a burden than a great ability she could have eventually expanded/and improved on. No hate, just my thoughts 👍👍👍
Three working as one, this is the exact reason I LOVED the reboot. It really payed attention to the fact that, even without The Power of Three, it was always their sisterhood that allowed them to survive the night. It had it's problems, but so did the original... Esepecially after season three...
I’ve only recently watched charmed and it’s pretty good. I think it’s pretty cheesy and I wish they would have gone deeper in terms of character back story/development with the main cast, but it’s really good for a late 90’s early 2000’s show. I know it’s an unpopular opinion , but I like the “reboot” a lot more.
I’m a Phoebe fan but I agree with you that she was very irresponsible in that episode. I think also she could have waited at least until Stax was killed . Cole was “safe” in the underworld. I mean it wasn’t like he could got himself killed there. I think that Phoebe should have pritotied her sisters and later find out a way to turn Cole good. I have always find this to be a bit confusing. I still don’t understand why the sisters couldn’t not have turned back time themselves. I’m still not sure about if Phoebe is the one to blame here. Her impulsiveness plays a big role of it but I actually don’t blame her. I only blame the source.
Right? You'd think the sisters, being the most powerful witches in the world, would have been able to reverse time themselves.. especially since the writers kept adding stuff after the fact (Clyde's door, the Cleaners, Coop's ring, etc) that proved there were many different ways to travel through time, but.. guess they didn't really think about that?
I always had the question of did prue about paige but block it out ? she would've been old enough to understand to me Prue was born October of 1970, paige was born (August 1977) just before Prue turned 7, Patty died the year following that.February 28, 1978
I'm not sure! Definitely an interesting theory, though! Especially since Prue was always so observant.. she probably would have picked up on something at least. 🤔
I think Leo could've easily popped up now and then to check if everything is alright upstairs. Not like he was terribly busy in hell. Piper was dying for a long time
Right?! He just left the girls to fend for themselves after magic was exposed, and then again after time was reset and he knew Shax would be coming for them!
Did anyone else ever feel lost at the beginning of all hell breaks loose, like I get that they were trying to just drop you into the action cause there was a lot of story to cover in the episode. But it opens as they’re walking into the manor already having saved an innocent, already know who the demon is and already have the vanquishing spell. Like I felt so confused like I turned on the episode part way through when I first watched it
OH MY GOSH, YES! My sister and I used to watch Charmed in reruns on TV, and sometimes it would be Prue, Piper and Phoebe, and then sometimes Paige would be there instead. So we knew something happened to Prue, but we didn't know what, and when we got to see season three and season four, we were like.. did we miss something?! Is there an episode that wasn't included?! WHAT HAPPENED?!
I remember Paige being my favorite character when I was a kid. To the point I would buy a lot of Rose’s previous movies to see her in other things. I should probably go back and watch Charmed again as an adult.
For me it's 100% phoebe's fault. Cause she abandoned them to go save Cole, and then ends up vanquishing him later on anyways. Come on man, at least make them end game if u gonna kill prue like that
Right?! And it's not even the first time she walked right over her sisters to get to Cole! Can't believe everyone in the show just let her off the hook so easily.. 😐
@@weirdlybeloved if they didn't completely erase prue from the show, it would have been easier to watch. Like show her when u go to the past, show her picture at the ending. Little things like that the prue lovers would have appreciated.

Well honestly, even in the beginning of the episode they got injured by shax almost dying. Leo said they both almost died if he wasn’t quick enough. By the time he got there he would have only been able to heal one of them just as he did when tempus reversed time and it happened again without phoebe. Either way one of the sisters would have died it was just meant to happen that way
@@weirdlybeloved he tried killing all 3. To eliminate the charmed ones. But he saw he only killed one and was okay with it because she was the 3rd sister with the most power. But since no one knew of Paige’s existence it all worked out. It was destined
I definitely blame phoebe. She was more worried about some dick that didn't even last forever!! She should of listened to Prue in the beginning, even cole said in that episode that being "up there" doesn't work for them but she's like nah we'll make it work 🙄
I love charmed season 3 episode 22 of Prue's fashion has that punk goth style without too much make-up or goth punk hair just the fashion that she kills it and I want that outfit 🥰
For real! If I owned the show, I would totally do a line of clothing based on stuff the sisters wore throughout the series, because man that stuff would selllllll.
Oh, sorry! My voice is generally on the lower side, but for some reason the audio in the video keeps compressing, so it ends up sounding super quiet. I gotta figure out what's going on there so I can fix it ~
I think Phoebe didn't get the blame she deserved because Piper was grieving Prue and couldn't stand the idea of losing Phoebe in any way. Paige didn't know anything about anything and was just trying to fit in and not anger Piper- who struggled with accepting her. Paige wasn't in a position to comment or judge. Also Piper's own relationship with Leo was just as forbidden as Phoebe's was with Cole, so there is only so much Piper feels she can say without coming off as a hypocrite. the lady with the gun gloating about shooting the wicked witch didn't even seem to care she shot the 'wrong' one. Piper didn't do or say anything yet Piper was the one who was shot and piper actually died from the gunshot wound before time was reversed and Prue died
Very true! And very insightful as well! I never thought about how Piper might have been more understanding of Phoebe's relationship with Cole, given her own with Leo! And omigosh, I never noticed that but you're so right!! She shot Piper when Prue is the one who tossed her out! Ugh, that woman really was awful. 😤
@@GameOn71213 They were both equally forbidden. Cole and Phoebe's relationship was forbidden because he was a half demon and then went on to become the source Leo and Piper's relationship was forbidden to the point the elders tried on several occasions to separate them. Phoebe and Piper both suffered negative kickbacks from their relationships.
You have some excellent points (especially her Cole situation) but it's not her fault. It's the Source fault for not honoring their deal but he's evil so can't really blame him for this opportunity to destroy the Charmed ones once and for all.
That's fair. I just think that Phoebe really left her sisters in the lurch, especially when you consider that The Source had been sending enemy after enemy after them the whole year, and had now sent his personal assassin, who nearly killed both of her sisters in a matter of seconds, after them. If it were me, I wouldn't leave until I was sure the coast was clear. Just too risky.
Personally I liked Paige a lot and kinda feel that things worked out for the best. I missed Prue a lot but for the show itself it probably was a good change. We'll never know. I can't imagine Prue's presence continuing to be as strong and bright even further without making the show all about her.
Omigosh, would you believe Buffy is the next show I tend to focus on?! I already have one video planned, and I just need to finish re-watching season six to do the other! I love Buffy so much! (I had to skip The Body, though, that episode makes me cry 😢)

Sometimes I just watch compilations of his best moments for fun, because he had so many great lines! Honestly I really liked Drusilla too.. Juliet bright that perfect combination of crazy and evil genius! "These flowers.. ARE WRONG!"🌹
Also just realized….The evil community and Good magic community seemed to be in solidarity about not exposing magic with that being said Shacks was just as sloppy as Prue and Piper if not more because he kept initiating the public fights. If I’m not mistaken he was an agent of The First, I mean The Source who agreed that tempest should be used to reverse time. Idk maybe I shouldn’t think too hard into it.
Right? Shax attacked them in public not once but twice. Suuuuper sloppy work for such a prominent assassin..The Source should have reversed time to fix it even without being asked, given the exposure was more on Shax than the sisters anyway!
Great video but you're a little wrong. Phoebe herself brought up that point when Piper turned into a fury in season 4. Phoebe thought the reason PiPer was upset at her phoebe for "abandoning her and Prue" and thus caused Prue's death. Tbh, the first time I watched the episode, I genuinely applauded the show for daring to go that route cause, like you, that's what I also thought. But the show deflected to the reason being that Piper was mad at Prue for constantly being reckless with her own life to the point that it got her killed. Also a good point because as much as I love Prue, I do believe she was brave, fearless yet reckless with her own life. Even the angel of death warned Prue that she would die if she continued to risk her life constantly for innocents. And in that same episode, Prue proactively kept going after Shax without the power of 3, even when Piper didn't think it was a good idea to follow Shax into the neighborhood. Ultimately, I think the show was great because the sisters weren't perfect. They were very flawed humans, and they made human mistakes.
You make good points! And that would also explain how when they're infected with the sins in Sin City, Prue tells the guy "no demon has defeated me, and you won't be the first."I always thought that was a weird way to phrase it, instead of saying 'killed,' she says 'defeated,' almost like it's a game to her. It was really only a matter of time before that mentality caught up to her.
The problem with the sisters traveling in time, was that they could only move themselves through time and then only temporarily. Tempest was the only one who could really reverse the time of the whole universe. I do not think the sisters could have been strong enough to reset time in the same fashion. There would have been strings attached, as there usually are.
yeah i dunno why but the audio in this was so low and believe me it wasnt my headphones, they were at full blast in order to understand anything you said cuz man was it so low
Sorry! My voice is naturally kind of low - especially after surgery last year - but for whatever reason the audio keeps compressing whenever I save a video, so it comes out reeeeally quiet! I'm trying to figure out how to fix it, but no luck yet, unfortunately. :(
Yeah. Even when I was like 14 and first starting to get into the show, Phoebe was my least favorite. It was the summer between seasons 4 and 5. I'd watch reruns of 1-3 on TNT then new episodes on the WB. I liked her for like the first year and a half, but after that I really started hating her. Especially all that crap she pulled on Piper and Leo early in season 3 when they first tried to get married. It's not like she asked for Piper and Paige's blessing before any of her marriages, especially Cole.
Right?! Phoebe was really good for that "the rules apply to thee, but not to me" sort of mentality. You're 100% right about how she reacted to Piper and Leo wanting to get married! My jaw actually dropped at her behavior then.. Also when she got so mad in The Power of Two.. she has no income of her own and no place to be during the day, but she gets pissed when she gets handed a list of things to do and is expected to do them? Jeez.. 🙄
To be fair Prue set everything in motion for her death. She made Piper go with her to chase after Shax & had Phoebe stay behind. Although they could have waited for him to return or summoned him with all 3 there to say the spell. Letting the doctor leave before confirmation was nuts to me as well. All 3 could have gone to the underworld or Prue & Piper could have hunkered down until Phoebe returned. Once fully exposed Prue didn't have to be mean to the wannabe witch, if she were nicer the rest of the events wouldn't have happened with requiring Leo to be there to heal Piper. I make these arguments only b/c you already made the arguments against Phoebe. Also in the time travel episodes it was made clear those spells were one offs. The Cleaners were always a thing, but weren't outwardly used until Wyatt b/c the Charmed ones always cleaned up the mess, using Tempus is a great example of that. Even in the first episode the Cleaners appeared you could see how long they waited before stepping in. Also as a fan of season 4 I have to agree with Shannon (she did an interview on her exit at one point or another), it was time for her to leave and Paige brought new life to the show. I don't see them getting 5 more seasons if things stayed the same. Prue had reached her pinnacle, she went from the overbearing big sister who had to put her wants to the side to being free of those burdens and finally doing what she loved. TBH if she stayed I think they would have had to explore Prue going evil b/c although Phoebe would be the one that is easiest to turn evil due to being born in the home, Prue was always the one that seemed more likely to choose it for the freedom.
Fair point! I actually did a follow-up video on this not too long ago (Charmed Theories - Revisited) but I definitely agree! Following Shax into the street was downright reckless, and Prue had been becoming more and more so throughout season 3.. it was only a matter of time before the worst happened.
In the episode "Hell hath no fury" Phoebe states that Piper blames her for Prue's death. She went on to say she thinks Piper feels like she was the one that abandoned them.
They thought they killed him. So Phoebe went to the underworld to bring cole back. I dont see it as it being her fault. It was actually the sources fault he had time turned back and the deal was to give them warning that sacks was going to attack and kill one of them. But he didn't. Phoebe wanted to go back up to help her sisters but the source made a deal with the elders and phoebe had to stay until after the attack. That whole episode was wrote to kill off Prue.
I think the chill was the warning? Idk.. but I'm not surprised about the Source cheating them on the deal, I mean he is evil, you know? But I remember seeing that the episode was written as a cliffhanger because they were hoping Shannen would come back for season 4, but then it didn't work out so they killed Prue off and wrote Paige in.
But prue was his charge also I blame phoebe for taking herself out of the equation knowing how strong the power of three is so in a way did phoebe cause prues death
@@kellystonge6780 Right?! Leo was in the underworld with Phoebe and Cole, so presumably he was unaffected by the time reversal and knew the girls would be attacked by Shax, so Idk why he didn't immediately orb to and warn them!
@@weirdlybeloved to be fair I didn't really read it either just skimmed it to find out what happened to Cole so I can't tell you if it's good or not but I will say if your a fan of Prue you would probably hate the comic
Hi guys! Sorry about the low audio ~ I found a way to fix the issue in later videos, but unfortunately the sound in this one is still quite low.. 😢
She was definitely better being evil😈
Omg, I just saw in my mind a show where Shannen stayed, Phoebe went evil with Cole, and Prue/Piper got Paige as their third sister... WAY more natural fit all around. I want to see another dimension where that version of the show happened.
@seana_momsen While it should have been true that the cleaners were created because of All Hell Breaks Loose, the think tank writers of this show did this instead:

PIPER: Oh, my god. He's dead.
(End of Hologram. Resume to Tribunal Hall.)

I just feel like they could have easily explained The Cleaners existence and maybe even addressed suppressed guilt Phoebe had over the events of AHBL.
I wish they would have done that, that would have made a lot more sense! And agreed about the emotional connection! I actually really love the Angel of Death (Simon Templeman is amazing) and liked that they kept bringing him back. ❤️

@@razkable Agreed! They're all part of the problem.
Some valid points here, it would be good to include phoebe was self aware of her mistake and she fends off the furies in season 4 she states to piper that it’s her fault prue died she blames her and that’s why piper became a fury
Phoebe worked so much harder at her relationship with Paige as her second chance to be better sister

One of my main gripes, besides the dang naked mermaid costumes and crap? I just loooove how plot armor gives pheobe an office space at the newspaper for a little weekly side column when there's other reporters doing mainstream media and daily reporting, all from the comfort of their main room with cluttered desks and no privacy 😅😅😅 but demon husbands and witch sisters cant just pop up at work without it 😂 as an adult I'm like, there is no way that's real without her being a boss or something.
News anchors, the weatherman, researchers, editors, etc, they're all in the main space.. but an advice columnist? Oh man, she needs the room! Lol.

@@weirdlybeloved not at all! That's real convenient for a witch to get into highjinks I guess?? That's not correct at all in real life though" lol. And now that I'm older, I really don't like Phoebe and her decisions. I used to love her for being funny and cute but always felt more prone to piper mentally, and then Paige came along and I liked her too. I liked prue too. But Phoebe always irritated me when she was being selfish and turning it around on her sisters, so I'd go back and forth between episodes to like her or not lol. Depended on her level of awareness I guess lol. I just think I'd have rather seen Prue, Piper, and Paige in a series together. Phoebe could go off to hell with Cole. Lol 🤣
@@TaurusWitch29 Thank you so much! And omigosh, YES, I feel the same way about Phoebe, too!! You lost me in "I didn't like season 4, season 5 gets a little better" but I kept watching haha
Haha, I getcha! There are definitely things I like about season 4, I just felt like a lot of the plots were recycled (particularly the issues with Phoebe and Cole's romance) and it could be hard to get into sometimes. I do love the episode where they get rid of The Source though!
@@weirdlybeloved tbh season 4 is my fav followed by seasons 3,1,2. 6,5,8 & 7 are a mess. After season 4, the rest felt childish. As if when the source died, everything else died too.
@@regeneratedwitch Yuss ~ the Source plot was the last one with real "weight" to it. I just like episodes like Sympathy for the Demon and Something Wicca This Way Goes and stuff ❤️
Season 5 is fine but 4 is better...
These were good reads
I thought it was cause the Source wanted it to play out that way. Exposure, sister dying etc. But i may have head cannoned that
@@carly7522 now I can subscribe to this simply because if Shax goes public, Magic gets exposed which means Phoebe goes underground and with a time reset, he can knock out the power of three.

I like to think that the show died when Prue died and it just took another 4 to 5 seasons for it to actually catch up.
Way to be a brat lol
And yeah, after they got rid of the Source, it just became ridiculous.
I'm interested to see more Charmed topic videos from you. haha
I will say I disagree with Season 4 being the downfall, it actually fits right in with the first 3 seasons, sharing the same cinematogprahy style with Season 3.
I'll never understand how Prue and Piper didn't see the reporter and camera man. You could tell by the angle of the shot that they were standing right across the street from them.

What about when she forced cole to be the source, then killed him for it and went on consequenceless

But in retrospect, this episode is not as tight as it should have been. Good call.

There’s some good episodes in season 5 but there’s some god awful ones too. Prue was my favourite but I didn’t mind Paige she gave the show something different
@@natasha8966Very true! I love season 5 episodes like Sympathy for the Demon, but episodes like Witches In Tights are a complete joke imo.
Prue was my favorite and the show ended here for me .Shannen fan to ,
CURRECT!!!!!

I agree with everything in the video, the Prue years were the best, the last two episodes of series 8 were good.
I definitely liked the second to last episode, too! Watching the manor get blown to pieces was just.. such an incredible moment! 😲

Some of the best tv I've ever seen 😎
In season 1, it was stated Phoebe wasn't exactly the most responsible or pleasant person, given by callbacks to her past, I mean look at the reunion episode in Season 6, as a teen she was yikes. lol
And this kind of attitude did cause a strain on her relationship with her sisters, especially Prue who only ever had that vision of her, so much of Prue's attitude toward Phoebe was because that was the image she had of Phoebe, but by season 3 Prue opens up and no longer saw Phoebe that way, but when it came to Cole she regressed back to irresponsible and caused problems for everyone, including Cole himself.
But yeah, Phoebe was just.. she had her good points, but ultimately she was probably the most selfish character in the show.
Exactly!
Right? Charmed could have been SUCH a good show (and in a lot of ways it was) but it feels like the bad writing constantly overshadowed it. 😔
I always blamed Phoebe, n I hated her during season 4 and 5 by season 6 I was kind of over it.
Ok, I hated Phoebe till the end. 😅 Loved Paige.
@@weirdlybeloved I think the actual friendship between Holly and Shannen made the acting more believable ♥️ And thank you for responding, feels nice to engage with someone who shares tge same passion for Charmed! Keep up the good work 💪
I watched this show with my Mum as a child (like 3-around 5yrs old) before it stopped airing on the local tv network and caught up with it in my teens.
And right?
But let’s talk about how piper acted her ass off in season 4 !!!
Holly did an amazing job for sure!
Wow, I've never thought about that, and that makes sens ! Nice explanation !

Three working as one, this is the exact reason I LOVED the reboot. It really payed attention to the fact that, even without The Power of Three, it was always their sisterhood that allowed them to survive the night. It had it's problems, but so did the original... Esepecially after season three...

Thank you so much! 🥰
Fair enough! ☺️
No way you’re hiding a full term pregnancy from a 7 year old.

I do blame Phoebe cause she was selfish for her demonic boyfriend
She was also in an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and I would really recommend watching it, because Rose was phenomenal!
For me it's 100% phoebe's fault. Cause she abandoned them to go save Cole, and then ends up vanquishing him later on anyways. Come on man, at least make them end game if u gonna kill prue like that

I agree
And phoebe had zero remorse for prue death either

Well honestly, even in the beginning of the episode they got injured by shax almost dying. Leo said they both almost died if he wasn’t quick enough. By the time he got there he would have only been able to heal one of them just as he did when tempus reversed time and it happened again without phoebe.
You can never compare the two romances, dating a paragon of good, vs dating a demon who had been murdering for a century
@@GameOn71213 They were both equally forbidden.
Cole and Phoebe's relationship was forbidden because he was a half demon and then went on to become the source
Leo and Piper's relationship was forbidden to the point the elders tried on several occasions to separate them.
Phoebe and Piper both suffered negative kickbacks from their relationships.
Maybe we should chalk this up to being at the wrong place at the wrong time for everyone.
That's fair! :)
Piper was and will always be my faveorite charmed one.
She's awesome! 🥰

@@chris_kyleartist279 Thank you!
Very true! Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing any time traveling abilities anywhere near as powerful as Tempest's!
yeah i dunno why but the audio in this was so low and believe me it wasnt my headphones, they were at full blast in order to understand anything you said cuz man was it so low
She says that Piper feels that way - not that she herself feels that way.
Indeed. That is what I wrote. 😊
@@andreachumley2247 I meant that Phoebe is not expressing that she feels that way about herself, so I don't think actually believes she is to blame.
There were many holes brought by future episodes. Remember the cleaners? If they have existed for a while, why didn't they come in to help ssn 3?
I'd love to hear your analysis of Phoebe in Apocalypse Not.
My volume is all the way up and the audio is still low.
I'm sorry!
😂😂😂 it's not weird! Shax is yoked! He can blow in anytime 😂😂
Lmao right?!
Phoebe was always the worst. I maintain if she'd died instead of Pru everyone would've been better off
I heard there's a part 2 2 this episode.
Which episode?
Why did phoebe automatically think it was piper that was dead and not prue
I think it was because Leo had been crying ~ I think she figured that Leo would only be that upset if it was his wife that had been killed.
But prue was his charge also I blame phoebe for taking herself out of the equation knowing how strong the power of three is so in a way did phoebe cause prues death
@@kellystonge6780 Oh, for sure! There's no reason Phoebe couldn't have waited until she was sure everyone was safe to go after Cole.
Did leo know that prue was going to die knowing that phoebe was with cole in the underworld and they didn’t have the power of three today the spell
@@kellystonge6780 Right?! Leo was in the underworld with Phoebe and Cole, so presumably he was unaffected by the time reversal and knew the girls would be attacked by Shax, so Idk why he didn't immediately orb to and warn them!
Gotta ask have you ever read the Charmed comic
No, haha. I was afraid they would be like the Buffy comic 😬
@@weirdlybeloved to be fair I didn't really read it either just skimmed it to find out what happened to Cole so I can't tell you if it's good or not but I will say if your a fan of Prue you would probably hate the comic
@@joseystrife8780 Haha.. I'm not really a Prue fan - Piper's my favorite - but now I'm a little afraid to know what they did to her in the comic! o.O
@@weirdlybeloved do you want to know cause it's not anything too bad if your not really a Prue fan
@@joseystrife8780 Sure, please!
