    Anyone in a band can come up with a riff or a beat, and then someone else in the band can add to it... layer by layer, a song is born. That's just one way of many different ways to do it. Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie, plays every instrument, writes the music, and the lyrics, records, and produces... then show the people that will perform with him how to play the guitar, bass, keyboard and drum parts. Wolf is basically a one man band... which is another way to go about it.

    This song gets me teary eyed. It seems like he is trying to persuade his girl to stay with him. And the ending feels like she rejected him. If a guitar solo could cry, that’s how it would sound. Brilliant song from Great White.

    This is a very underrated, talented group. You might like other songs by them like the angel song, House of broken love, Rock me & she only. He also redid in hunters once bitten twice shy.
    Bluesy guitar sound, and the guitarist is really good.
    Yes, different people have different styles of writing songs in a lot of your best songwriters seem to write on piano, but I grew up, riding with me and the bass player and the drummer. Sometimes me and the singer would come up with songs, and then mix the drum and bass in. Then in the studio, you have to consider how many guitar players you have because sometimes if you have one player, they have to play the rhythm and then come back and record the lead over it. They often did that for guitar harmonies as well.
    As far as writing a lead guitar riff, for me, I always wanted to play the background rhythm over and over and over again until I came up with the perfect lead to fit that particular song. I would usually make a recording of it and play it in the background while I developed my lead, Or whatever you feel like would be the best fitting pattern and tone.

    About the song writing, Asia !! For the most part, there's basically 2 different ways to write a song ( music then lyrics or lyrics then music). One way would be like Elton and his lyricist ( Bernie Taupin). Bernie will come with some lyrics or even a poem, and when he's done he gives them to Elton to come up with the music ( if i remember correctly, their never even in the same room while putting the song together). The other way usually happens with someone who plays an instrument!! Either they'll hear a sound or rhythm in their head ( and they'll have a recording device near them and they'll hum it or play a snippet on to the recorder so they dont forget). Then they'll build and build on it, then bring it to the band. And usually the last 2 additions are the drums and the solo. Which most of the time the guitarist has a recording of the basic structure of the song, which he'll bring home and will just start trying different sounds and stuff (i trying to keep this short, so we're calling it "stuff" lol). And since 95% of your average rock songs is Verse Chorus Verse Chorus then solo... so you already know where the solo is going!! Now the guitarist just has to "blend" in the solo. Again, I'm trying to keep it short and not get too technical !! But i think you'll get more of the whole "picture" now

    When writing a real song, it usually starts out with a single guitar or piano playing a basic chord structure and a melody (or not). Sometimes it is the chorus that creates the rest of the song. At some point, lyrics are added. There's no special point when an instrumental solo is formed. Maybe a player will already have one in mind, or he/she sits down over the instrumental section and just plays until something comes together.
    The writer(s) will try to create a "hook" that is the part of the song that keeps you coming back
    There is no one way to write a great song, and a lot depends on the talent of each individual involved.
    There are some bands who can play great but who can't write hits.
    Then we had the Beatles, who were average musicians, but wrote GREAT songs.

    They do something like this. Guitarists, drummers, bass, keyboard players etc., particularly good ones, can play for hours a day with the band, and on their own. They find good riffs that they record, or write down. Lyrics are typically, but not always written by the vocalist. In some bands they all write lyrics, or share in writing. Then they usually end up doing some rewrites as they build the song. Then when they record the song or album, that's when a producer gets involved.

    Each instruments are recorded separately....then mixed together...but everyone has to play in time so it fits...theres so much going on with this.k8nd of music....guitar solos are built to fit the songs mood....but are usually the free flow of emotions for the song...like people that free flow with words...thats what each note in a solo is....a free flow of notes...i hear conversations in guitar solos....its a different way to hear music and i think the best way....
    its such an amazing way to express...

    I first heard this song when a friend played it in March 1987. I immediately loved it. This song is incredible even though my favorite ballad by Great White is Angel Song. That song is way underrated. I dare say that is a deep cut. They rarely play it live because they usually play Sae Your Love and you can only have so many slower songs. There is a version where Jack Russell sings it live and it is somewhat recent, but it is not common.

  • @MundoDragon
    @MundoDragon ปีที่แล้ว

    To answer your question on how songs are put together, it depends on the band. Most lay the drums and bass first, then the main guitar riff gets put to it. Finally, the lead guitarist will add flourishes and perhaps a guitar solo and the drummer will decide where he wants to put any drum fills, based on his rhthym.
    But others have done it different. For example, with The Who, Keith Moon usually played the drums to that song after the rest of the music was pretty much complete, which is pretty unorthodox, but leant to Moon's unique drumming style because he could play the drums with a lot of melody to them, similar to a guitar or a piano.. Yet others will come up with a guitar riff first and build the song around that, a la Deep Purple.
    It's really about inspiration more than anything though. That's my take on it. I'm not in a band, but I've played with countless people (I'm a drummer) and a lot of stuff gets 'born' from simply jamming together and feeling each other's style out.

  • @gregorybennett5640
    @gregorybennett5640 ปีที่แล้ว

    Usually a song is written with guitar rhythm and vocals. Then in the studio you lay the drums first (or drums and bass guitar together) then the rhythm guitar goes on, then the vocals on top of that. Guitar solo and the backup vocals are typically added last. You do not have to record the exactly this order but it’s typical.
    Debut albums are usually pretty complete when the band goes in to record. These songs have been written and played together for some time while hoping to get a record deal. The next album often times is written on the road while the band is touring, to support their debut album. The second album songs may or may not have ever been played as a band before recording them. Many 2nd, 3rd album songs are finished while they are in the studio. Including all the music and writing much of the lyrics.

    They have no idea how real music is made, that's crazy. Music is a reoccurring chord progression within 1 key. The solos are scales within the same key as the chord progression.

  • @blackwolf3127
    @blackwolf3127 ปีที่แล้ว

    metal bands are mostly misunderstood in the world of music but if you approach it with a certain point of view you'll discover something very interesting. think of any and i do mean ANY classical artist or composer, then imagine that music being played through an electric guitar, bass, and drums . metal is basically a scaled down version of classical music. the solo's that would normally be played on violins for high notes are the lead guitars, various types of drums are played in 1 drum kit by 1 person, base and rhythm guitars play the low tones that build the backbone of the rhythm. the vocals are just another instrument in the band. back in the day an orchestra had anywhere from 30 to 100 people to amplify the sound to make it loud enough to hear every note, now we have amplifiers that can crank it up. As for Asia's question about the writing process, it varies. sometimes a song can be written around a riff or rhythm from the guitar and lyrics written after, sometimes the lyrics are written before but the writer usually has some kind of rhythm in there head of how they want it to sound. lead guitars do not write the solo until the songs are almost over and they get a feel for how the song as a whole sounds. sometimes the song may not even need a solo, it all depends on how everyone in the band feels about what is there. usually there could be almost 5 to 10 different variations of the solo before honing it down to the final outcome.

    @Asia and BJ
    As to your inquiry about fleshing out a rock song ...... the truth is that it could happen in any of the ways you described it. The lyricist could inspire the musicians or the musicians could inspire the lyricist. It most often comes about as the result of a jam session where someone will pick up on a particular portion of that and flesh it out into something everyone else can contribute to. A lead guitar player could be just fiddling around with something and the lyricist will (I've done this myself) ask about the mood he is intending and begin writing from that point.
    More often than not though a song is built either by adding lyrics to a chord structure or adding a chord structure to a set of lyrics. One essential thing that is necessary for these things to come to fruition is that all participants must be willing to give and take until the song is finalized.

    the typical rock song, even bsllads, are mostly complete songs either with a space set aside for a solo, or where a guitar solo is organically called for, like an obvious spot reveals itself.
    this singer, jack russell, was always either praised or hated for his voice having been "too much" like that of robert plant of led zeppelin. there was another band who also heard the same things, called kingdom come.

    One of my all-time favorite songs. Sing it at karaoke all the time.In my band we do Tock Me as well

    We do have jam sessions. We also write in our bedrooms and bring them to the band. Great guitarists know how to take the changes in a song and kind of 'sing' another melody over those changes. But it is very improvisational at first inception of any song.

    Solos usually come after the rest of the song is written and the band knows it and the lead guitarist usually comes up with it after the song is heard by the band. There's usually a main song writer in the band, tho a lot of bands all of the members contribute to the writing

    Some songs are worked on and practised for months , some songs happen in 5 minutes and improvised , and you do just go for it .. to me my guitar is my voice so its just like putting words to music or a beat ..let it flow..

    depends.... sometimes the wrds are there, and the sound is built around it. other times the melody is there or just a riff, and it inspires the words.

    Goes like this for me. Guitarist puts together a good string of chord progressions that sound good and the rest of the band can feel and get into. Then you structure the song the way you want certain parts to ascend or descend , say for the guitar intro, the solo space and outro. Unless you already have lyrics in mind for the song the vocalist usually comes up with some lyrics. You lay all the parts down on tape or digital. then give the guitarist some time to mess with the space he is allowed to solo in. Sometimes the notes come right away and sometimes it has to take longer to get a feeling to come through and sound the best it can. Me personally, i love writing original music. Peace.

    From what I have heard, the process of creating a song varies. Sometimes someone has a lyric and they work to put a melody to it. Sometimes someone has a riff and they see what they can do with it. For a lot of rock songs they leave a space in the song for a solo and it is up to the soloist to make it work. There is normally rehearsal to work out the kinks or sometimes to flesh it out.
