    What you said at the end of it really adds a cosy touch to the video, and yes, after 3 years of on-and-off lockdowns and quarantines, things are finally returning to normal. Also, you did a good job choosing the soundtrack for this video, which is quite laidback and relaxing. Thanks for the great work.

      if you dont wanna hear abt politics bc americans are scared of communism lol theres other 2 really good channels, blondie in china (about chinese food) and katherine's journey to the east(more abt traveling and showing more local/rural china), both are white girls (one american and another aussie or brit), both speak the language and interact with the locals

      @@rodolfo7077 I don’t think that’s it, China is pretty hyper-capitalist at this point. Think it’s more a fear of USA not being big dog number1, and loss of English hegemony more generally

    • @trisoil
      @trisoil ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@melissa_renee I did.
      The surrounding area of the YU Garden is the original town of Shanghai. It used to have a city wall like the Great Wall to protect the city. It was because the town was looted by Japanese pirate two times. People and the government decided to built the wall. It successfully protected the people from the pirates later.
      When the British came in 1840's they were not allowed to live in the city. The government allocated a small piece of land to them where the Bund and the Nanjing road are now. That was the beginning of the British colony. Later it expanded into a large city.
      Until 1990‘s the city remained pretty much the same as it was in 1949 when the communist party took power. It did not developed very much during the first 30 years of the regime. Starting 1990's the city expanded again dramatically.

    Absolutely amazed and lovely video as always, wish it could be longer tho 😅 would you consider make vlogs that can be a bit longer like 15 minutes-20minutes ish? Just can’t get enough for only 10 minutes lol

      Hi Andy, wow thank you! That’s a huge compliment. I will try! It seems that after I edit all my footage down I usually end up with around 10 min videos. I think the next one I’m filming right now might be longer. We will see. 🤞🏻

      Thank you! Yes! It looked so pretty but we could barely see anything over all the people. The line to get into the bridge was literally packed like sardines. It freaked us all out so we chose to skip it.

    7:51 wow, it’s seems like not in China, but like in NYC 😮 it’s amazing city, some parts are very traditional and some parts are very modern. So balance. I believe people will not get bored to be there. But is it expensive for buying food?

    • @melissa_renee
      @melissa_renee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on what you buy. Local food, no very cheap. But international or imported specialty foods can be quite expensive. Or at least comparable to US prices.

    Great video, I am an overseas Chinese who has never been to China, my grandfather's wish is to return to China to live, My grandfather has been working very hard to immigrate to China and obtain Chinese citizenship, but the Chinese government policy is very strict and does not accept immigrants, which is a pity

    • @jonyao76
      @jonyao76 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was lucky enough to go to see the light before it "offically open" on Dec 30. it was still very crowded but not intimadating, now that I move to the Netherlands I start to miss Shanghai, but I am also enjoying exploring the netherlands.
    I would suggest going to The Shanghai Corniche (xuhui bin jiang) in xuhui district if just wanna chill a bit, there are full of yough people and pets, skateboarding, drawing and doing cool stuff. and the view is really nice.
    hope you have a good time in shanghai!
