I’m from Shanghai and I feel like I have no choice but love shanghai right? I also lived in New York where everyone try to say the two cities are comparable, but I honestly don’t feel the same at all. Shanghai is modern in the way of New York, but the vibe is softer, more artistic, and safer.
@@unka2007 a young girl could walk around Shanghai in the midnight at a dark street, can girls in NYC do? Anyone with common sense won’t. Yes I know people will say that NYC is more democratic, but you have to stay alive to vote, right? For most ordinary people, we just want to live in a place without gun violence, drug(including marijuana), robbery, feels fear-free when riding subways in the night. I have people telling me” you have to always watch surrounding “ in NYC. No sorry, you don’t have to in Shanghai at all.
You both deserve to be way more popular! I always appreciate how much craft goes into the editing and storytelling of your videos. Also, loved the history lesson on this one!
I am a 45-year-old Shanghai native. The biggest charm of Shanghai lies in its inclusiveness, welcoming friends from all over the world to enjoy everything here.
I used to live in Shanghai as an expat in early 2000, and jt was fabulous!! I so miss living in Shanghai. The reason foreigners love Shanghai is that youcan find the best of both worlds. I remember being able to buy the most authentic, quality, chocolate, cheeses and dine at the best French restaurants then. The view of the Bund is still so special and romantic.
Shanghai is a wonderfull city. I lived/worked there in 2007 for half a year and only 10 months later i went back for another 5 months, because i missed it so much. Both times i lived between shanghai stadium and Xujiahui. In 2010 was the last time i was in Shanghai for a 3 wk holiday. Hopefully i will go back there some day.
In addition to the reasons mentioned in the video, I think foreigners like Shanghai simply because it's easy. It's easily navigable, lots of people speak English (and other foreign languages), excess of not just western food, but *very* high-end western food, and not just a foreign "community", but a foreign *population* . Other cities are big, easily navigable, have lots of locals who speak English, have high-end western food and foreigners too. Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou immediately spring to mind, but Shanghai just has all these things in the extreme. Because of that, it makes life simply easier and more comfortable for foreigners, so lots of us flock there. Even the people that don't prefer living in Shanghai (like myself) can't honestly say it's a bad place.
You guys are one of my favorite TH-camrs, your videos are so unique and beautifully made. Thank you for introducing Shanghai especially the French Concession from an European perspective. I grew up in Shanghai and love the city very much despite that I have lived in overseas for many years.
I’m Singaporean Chinese. Lived and worked here for over 12 years, still married to a Shanghainese and we have a daughter. Only gripe I have about Shanghai is the huge size of the city and you have to travel really far to get to nature trails.
Have only been in one city in China and that is Shanghai, feel like I made the right choice. Remember I was so amazed by the skyline, up to then I hadn't seen anything like it.
Glad to see Nico finally reunitied with Jack after lockdown in that hotel for “weeks”...😂 Miss you guys so much, have you planned the schedule to come back?
Loving the mix of Chinese and French vibe on this video. ❤ Also the food 😋 looking forward on the 2nd part of this video! Thanks again, Jack and Nico! 😊
I had the big plate chicken in Shanghai, then went to Xinjian and had the same several times and the one in Shanghai was the best. Xinjian foods was incredibly tasty!
Much prefer those other cities. Really liked Shanghai though. The lower income areas are horrendous. So soulless and rundown. . In those other cities that’s where you can still have a great time.
Shanghai is my hometown and it is a very beautiful city. I am very happy to see such an objective evaluation of Shanghai by international friends. Welcome to Shanghai!❤❤❤
Come back to China now that it's no longer zero-covid. There's so much more to check out. One could probably spend an entire lifetime and come nowhere near seeing and experiencing everything this amazing country has to offer.
yes the French concession I remember staying there for a month and if I remember there is a road called Henshan Lu(Road) the party scene there is so so cool 😁😁😁
I like Lijiang ….a cute little town in the mountains with cute Tibetan country singers. Okokok…..Shanghai is modern etc etc. But most of Asia is super modern nowadays.
because they have a lot of privilege here in shanghai, even they can't speak mandarin. but imagine an asian people can't speak English and living in western country, people will ask them go back to their country.
Please don't ever leave China, because I just LOVE your China videos so much. Both of you have a fantastic, fun way of presenting and the Chinese content is endless as their culture and country are so vast. Will definitely be a subscriber for a long time to come!
Thank you very much. Unfortunately we have left but don’t worry we still have plenty of content to share and also plan on going back in the Autumn this year.
6:38 It's hilarious to see the 场所码 Venue Code and the notice of taking temperatures and checking 行程码 which doesn't even exist now. Shanghai suffered so much in the past year 2022 due to zero-covid policy, and it's really glad to see foreign and local residents are still loving it.
It is highly recommended that you go to the Nan shan Bamboo Sea in Jiangsu for a few days for a few days, and see wild giant pandas and taste bamboo delicacies
Worked in Shanghai 5 days a week for 2 years. Weekends in Hangzhou though. Can you tell if this foreigner "loved" Shanghai? It doesn't have a Longjing, a Yanggongdi or Meijiawu, does it? It's got buildings though, lots of them. I suppose some foreigners like endless buildings. Good food and easy-going vibe in Shanghai, I must admit.
哇··真是第一次听到外国人讲上海历史这么客观公正的,对你们的真实表示敬意。

no. Shanghai is not comparable with NYC…. Shanghai looks cheaper and their wages are 10 times cheaper than New Yorkers.

ive been to shanghai 17 times in the last 7 years. it is incredible. Makes Tokyo, London, Paris, Hong Kong, New York look like outdated country towns.

每个城市都有自己的特色,大家都很好
I don't agree with Tokyo and HK being outdated lolz.. the rest is understandable
Comparing capitals like that is not the a good idea, each city has different history and culture.
i hope you can visit beijing as well it has the most great history in this country❤ and its also my home
Shanghai is the first city in the world to have over 1000 Starbucks last year. No wonder the economy is booming on hyperdrive.
yeah because they have 26M people with 6500sqkm size .
No just Starbucks, but most coffee shops of any type per capita in the world. I guess my people like to be caffeinated 😂
