Hariyama is actually _really good_ in Pokemon Go. In PoGo, due to how the gym system works, you are fighting Blisseys constantly. As a result, fighting-type Pokemon with good STAB moves are highly prized. Counter and Dynamic Punch are the highest-damage fast and charged fighting attacks (respectively); and Machamp is the best Pokemon who can use them. However, the Machop evolution line is irritatingly hard to come by in the wild, and often Makuhita is more available. So if you don't have enough Machamps, Hariyama can also be taught Counter and Dynamic Punch and used the same way; it just has slightly lower defense/survivability.
As someone who got attached to Hariyama in a Sun playthrough, I'm glad to hear that it hasn't completely bit the dust. I was honestly expecting it to be consistently terrible.
