Random fun fact, since we talked about Marvel so much: today’s exactly 10 years since Guardians of the Galaxy vol1 made its debut.
It’s also been exactly 17 years since Deathly Hallows was published.

(PS. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka. I just think that Tim Burton’s was more… well, Tim Burton-ish. Both are great films in their own right, though.)

I'm not a fan of LotR... but, correct me if I'm wrong, Gollum...DIED!!! How do you continue after that? And it can't really be a prequel if Elijah Woods is returning as Frodo. AND it can't really be a midquel after Sam goes away because all that could have happened with those characters is already on screen, especially in the extended cuts. My question then becomes: what is the plot? The only idea I can come up with is that Frodo has started disassociating/hallucinating and goes on a journey looking for Gollum out of a belief that he survived. Regardless, this film is the definition of creative bankruptcy and should not be made. It barely ranks under the Mufasa movie.

It would be a prequel, set in the days when Frodo just got the ring and before he left the shire to go to Mordor, Gandalf and Aragorn set out to hunt Gollum to find out what he told the enemy.

@@robertbell4276 Even so, that small length of time between Frodo getting the ring and leaving the Shire is not long enough to justify a full film, whether Gandalf and Aragorn are going after Gollum or not. Similarly, adding in the latter point to the film to justify its existence creates questions that were not answered in the original trilogy, the biggest being, "Why didn't Gandalf give a larger, more in depth warning about Gollum to Frodo before leaving the Shire/as the Fellowship?" If Gandalf and Aragorn were concerned enough to go on a journey to find Gollum, they should also be concerned enough to warn Frodo adequately enough to be wary of Gollum before their inevitable meeting.

I love love love the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, so I'm not looking forward to this new Gollum movie. Even though I really like the character and Andy Serkis did and incredible job with it, this sounds like a cashgrab and I can't get excited with it. I just hope it doesn't spoil the memory of the original.
