If you run stock injectors then that’s why the fuel plate mod didn’t do as much as you would expect. Stock injectors can only shoot so much fuel. You need injectors that can handle the fuel delivery.
Great channel. I noticed you installed the cammed shaft washer incorrectly on re-assembly. The washer should go in between the housing and metal tab spacing the tab out slightly. Easy to do, I am not sure what difference it will make but I know it belongs under the tab.
Informative! My 97 12v cummins has a 4" exhaust front to back and a aftermarket air intake. It blows an insane amount of smoke and is pretty dang fast compared to stock. I'll have to take a look at the AFC now to see if that's been tampered with. You've got my follow.
I know this is an old video but for anyone using this video for a reference to tune their AFC the nut for the diaphragm should not be that tight. Only need to tighten it until the rubber starts to squeeze out a little bit or you will tear it. Also the really thin washer goes between the housing and the flat piece that comes off the rod that holds in the AFC foot.
I think if you do your tappet cover, you may have to pull the fuel pump, kind of a big job. Also have to be careful not to throw off the timing. Don't quote me thought, I haven't tinkered with my 96 for a few years now. Anyways keep up the mods!
The billet tappet cover would be a nice edition as they are o-ring sealed and most are tapped for breather ports if you plan on big power. As for the timing cover the only need for the billet one is if you are putting an adjustable drive gear on the injection pump to make adjusting the timing much easier when adding power mods.
I bought a stock 1997 2500 last year. Drove it for a week wondering how anyone could tolerate the anemic performance. Mine still has the factory fuel plate in, but I pushed it all the way forward, modded the AFC, turned the star wheel, installed a boost elbow, and installed a pyrometer and a boost gauge. Major difference. Rarely do I get any smoke, and I like it that way....it means I'm not pumping excess fuel($$$) out the tailpipe. Unless you've already upgraded the clutch, it isn't going to last long with any added power. Mine is getting an upgraded clutch and some upgrades to the NV4500 in the next couple of months. After that, I can toss some real power upgrades at the cummins.
Going to do this mod precisely how you did it. Have a 95 12valve. If you could estimate how much power was added, how much do you think it changed it? I’m ok with some smoke or no smoke either way. Just a little increase in power...
I read comments, you didn't ruin shit. good video, truck sounds great, i will do the same with my 97 12v. wish my rockers were as rust free as yours. Those engines handle 500hp like it's nothing. around 300 is still very mild , they are so undertuned stock. Over a thousand hp tho stock parts may scatter
Looks like your having fun. Great. I'm really enjoying your channel. Invest a little in gopro mount and take note of your audio also. Gets muffled at times. This old man looks forward to your videos, my friend. Aahhh youth.
Hey just like an FYI that black netting thing on your upper radiator hose is supposed to be where it stops your oil fill cap from rubbing against your upper radiator hose. My buddy took his off and his cap rubbed through hose and he was stranded.
Get a Napa 6637 or a wix 46637 air filter, fits on the stock intake hose and will give a little more horse power, the all Napa filters are made by wix they just don’t use the first number of the wix part numbers
Should by gauges to see how hot ur egts r getting, although with a manual trans ur egts won’t get that hot, also boost gauge and fuel press. Love the videos!
great video better than most on the details of how its done than most others. i bet someone was in that timing cover looks like orange silicone around it.
What I did with my 12v was ordered a new fuel pin and Governor spring from I think extreme diesel and turned the fuel up and it rolled like no other man
I did this step by step how you did it and. It blows zero smoke. It used to blow smoke now it don't. I'm lost lol. I've been a diesel mechanic for 5 years but ive never messed with any p-pump mod.
Loving this cummins build.. Look forward too watching your vids everyday, teaches me a lot on things.. What can I do to my 7.3 powerstroke too get some added horsepower and a little smoke show without spending money any easy mods?
Gavin Ward get a TS 6 position chip from thoroughbred diesel or any other reputable diesel supply company, and make sure you habe adequate exhaust and intake, you'll love it.
Do a 0-60 test! my 99 24v runs does it in about 9 seconds. lol i am interested to see what it your truck will do before and after you do these upgrades!!!
Concerning the whole black smoke means no power deal, at the present moment that happens, that is true but ideally, the truck should produce a healthy, thick cloud at the beginning of acceleration then clear up real quick. Means you’re getting the most amount of usable fuel into the engine.
Just my opinion- If you're going to do anything billet, I think you should take the engine out, clean/degrease it and rebuild the whole thing to get it ready for high HP mods like you say you're getting so the engine is ready for anything you throw at it.
I have a 96 12v the only problem it's giving me is that my vacuum pump keeps breaking a pin in it already replaced 3 times do you have an idea what could cause it? Thanks for your help
The internal damage cause but dumping fuel in a diesel engine can cause excessive amount of oil burn pre detonation excessive amount of wear on pistons rings and dangerous amounts of carbon build up on intake and exhaust valves so rolling coal is stupid and can cause you to replace an engine Sooner
That's what I want to do to my 94, i already have methanol injection., twin ram intake (banks)stage 3 injectors air raid filter and 4 inch exhaust.wouldnt trade my 12 valve for 10 chevys or fords.,but mine dont smoke ,thanks for the info.
Depends on how much smoke. With 6-8 seconds of black smoke under normal acceleration, my mpg went down from 20-23 to 16-19 on 3-4 seconds of black smoke with light pedal pressure. I want to get my truck (with 100hp over injectors) to just a light haze and lightning boost for stupendous fuel economy and power when I need it. Excessive smoke means too much fuel for the turbo(s). Just installed DPS-X exhaust manifold and Banks Quick-Turbo assembly for an HX35w, along with a GlowShift 3n1 gauge with Boost, EGT, and Temp (wish I had gotten the 3n1 with the 2nd pressure hookup for drive pressure reading vs boost)
Bull, black smoke doesnt = hp/tq . Diesels are lean burning engine . When some one understands what that means they will understand fuel = power in the simplest terms . But it gets complicated making the engine live with more fuel. If you have black smoke at full boost your making power.
IT'S ABOUT A LOT MORE THAN MORE FUEL DELIVERY "". IT DOESN'T DO A DARN BIT OF GOOD "IF YOUR NOT " BURNING IT "" GET THE FUEL PRESSURE FIRST " THEN" MASTER " TUNE IT TOO BURN ALL THAT EXTRA FUEL ⛽ "" WASTE G GATE CALIBRATION SHOULD BE " PRECISE ""
LOUD 'N' PROUD I'm surprised that you actually responded😂I'm a really big fan & I think that it's amazing you even take my opinions into consideration 😂
You meant billet manifold plate not tappet cover that's on the side of you block sir sweet vids tho I'm doing just about the same exact build as you so it'll be cool to see what parts you go with keep up the awesome vids man
If anyone does this and they remove the tanperproof bolts take them to your local hardware store and get replacement bolts that way you don't have to worry about them coming loose or worse stripping off :)
Billet timing cover? Is the factory timing cover tin scrap? I know Powerstroke more than Cummins, but with an ole 7.3 the thermostat housings are a thinner metal so sometimes you have trouble getting them to seal if you don't perfectly tighten the bolts down equally. There's companies that make billet housings for that and you think oh thats for show but if you know anything about it, it's actually a better part. Moral, if the current timing cover is tin scrap get the billet one because you'll be able to have a better seal.
Just started watching your channel. I have a 96 3500 12 valve with 202,000. Are the airbags worth getting? Looks like I found a new channel to subscribe to!
If you run stock injectors then that’s why the fuel plate mod didn’t do as much as you would expect. Stock injectors can only shoot so much fuel. You need injectors that can handle the fuel delivery.

These are the type of videos I love to see!!
Alex Nees half to hear that!
Gotta love Ole mechanical engines. Let's see how she does with some real performance parts now!
Daniel Robinson there will be a lot done soon!
Informative! My 97 12v cummins has a 4" exhaust front to back and a aftermarket air intake. It blows an insane amount of smoke and is pretty dang fast compared to stock. I'll have to take a look at the AFC now to see if that's been tampered with. You've got my follow.
Great videos man keep up the good work you and Greg A are number one!!!!!!!!
Great to watch a young guy having SO MUCH FUN with the BEST TRUCK EVER !!! Thanks Papa T
Gotta love a 12 valve. Easy power, plus some smoke great video!
One of the better explanations that I've seen so far.
I think if you do your tappet cover, you may have to pull the fuel pump, kind of a big job. Also have to be careful not to throw off the timing. Don't quote me thought, I haven't tinkered with my 96 for a few years now. Anyways keep up the mods!

Hey love you truck man. l have a 24 valve and I am working on fixing it up. This a perfect Chanel for reference. will always support you!!!!
Sweet video man! Cool seeing things starting to go with the project on the truck.

billet tappet cover def worth it, if you plan on making more power. timing cover is just cool looking lol
Please get a go pro window mount would love to see some in truck reactions and how it sounds in the cab and everything love the vids keep them commin
You can also turn the high idle screw all the way in and it will give you another 300 rpm
you should buy and install an AFC live. lets you control your fuel rate and power from your cab its about 300-600 for a good one.
Good god , that truck sounds amazing running down the road
Caleb H it screams now lol that 5” to 8” tip and that added fuel 😎
Appreciate the video man! I have 3 trucks to do this 2! Cant wait!
Hello I love your channel.. you should do a leveling kit and bigger tires
Ronnie Sandoval add a leaf spring in the back tooooooooo lol 😂
I just realized I have been watching your videos for 5 months now
Same
How did you position and AFC housing fully forward or in a factory spot or pull it back a little bit
hey loud if your truck has a hx35 turbo you can get a boost elbow to adjust the wastegate on the Boost
I done 30 clicks on mine and it don't smoke nearly as much as yours wonder why
Going to do this mod precisely how you did it. Have a 95 12valve. If you could estimate how much power was added, how much do you think it changed it? I’m ok with some smoke or no smoke either way. Just a little increase in power...
I'm curious to see what wheels and tires will do to the overall appearance of this thing. Keep up the cool vids!
I read comments, you didn't ruin shit. good video, truck sounds great, i will do the same with my 97 12v. wish my rockers were as rust free as yours. Hoss I had mounts but lost them lol... I’ll buy more.. and yeah there’s a spot or 2 where the mic was acting up
Hoss make a TH-cam channel hoss !
She ain't sluggish anymore! Time to find a used he351cw so you can take advantage of the fuel.
Hey just like an FYI that black netting thing on your upper radiator hose is supposed to be where it stops your oil fill cap from rubbing against your upper radiator hose. My buddy took his off and his cap rubbed through hose and he was stranded.
I love that truck it looks just like mime and its a manual just like my 95 what year is it
Sweet 2 videos just sat down to watch the video from yesterday
Get a Napa 6637 or a wix 46637 air filter, fits on the stock intake hose and will give a little more horse power, the all Napa filters are made by wix they just don’t use the first number of the wix part numbers
Should by gauges to see how hot ur egts r getting, although with a manual trans ur egts won’t get that hot, also boost gauge and fuel press. Love the videos!
Years late but was your afc foot hard to push after this? Did it just like you it’s just hard to slide it all out back together
great video better than most on the details of how its done than most others. i bet someone was in that timing cover looks like orange silicone around it.
Wesley Truax yeah, maybe have been KDP tabbed already or just trying to fix leak. But it’s still leaking lol.. and thanks!!
If you do the billet timing cover you need to get an adjustable timing gear otherwise its not worth it.
What I did with my 12v was ordered a new fuel pin and Governor spring from I think extreme diesel and turned the fuel up and it rolled like no other man
can you post the links
Awesome truck sort of sounds like a semi truck and blows smoke like one either way good job
I did this step by step how you did it and. It blows zero smoke. It used to blow smoke now it don't. I'm lost lol. I've been a diesel mechanic for 5 years but ive never messed with any p-pump mod.
Must not be a very good mechanic
Great job on the truck good video keep up the good work 👍👍
Love being part of the #loudNproudfam
Loving this cummins build.. Look forward too watching your vids everyday, teaches me a lot on things.. What can I do to my 7.3 powerstroke too get some added horsepower and a little smoke show without spending money any easy mods?
Gavin Ward get a TS 6 position chip from thoroughbred diesel or any other reputable diesel supply company, and make sure you habe adequate exhaust and intake, you'll love it.
So, this is an alternative-ish way of modifying or sliding the fuel plate?
What’s the t on the back of it with the fittings
Do a 0-60 test! my 99 24v runs does it in about 9 seconds. lol i am interested to see what it your truck will do before and after you do these upgrades!!!
2jz Films I've done simular things and mine does it in just under 10 and I'm manual as well
Our 7.3 ran 0-60 9 seconds too
Concerning the whole black smoke means no power deal, at the present moment that happens, that is true but ideally, the truck should produce a healthy, thick cloud at the beginning of acceleration then clear up real quick. Means you’re getting the most amount of usable fuel into the engine.
yes two seconds black smoke not more
Just my opinion- If you're going to do anything billet, I think you should take the engine out, clean/degrease it and rebuild the whole thing to get it ready for high HP mods like you say you're getting so the engine is ready for anything you throw at it.
Don"t forget when you add all that power your going to smoke the clutch. your 96 5speed came with 210hp stock
G Jones it’ll get upgraded. I already have the 2k set aside for south bend dual disk clutch when it needs done
I have a 96 12v the only problem it's giving me is that my vacuum pump keeps breaking a pin in it already replaced 3 times do you have an idea what could cause it? Thanks for your help
Sorry about the haters dude, don't worry about the they obviously don't have anything better to do
At 19:32 when you take off it sounds like the turbo stuttered or something? What was that noise?
Have you looked at any of the Fleece performance parts. If not they are worth looking into.
Whenever add fuel you need to add more air so turn up the boost and it will get more power without the rolling coal I recommend Banks power kits
Love the videos man keep it up
What size exhaust are you running ? Ans type of turbo ? Sounds wicked with the whistle
Yay u did it Malachi pretty cool and looks like she would run better catch you tomorrow buddy👍👍👍👍
That's what I want to do to my 94, i already have methanol injection., twin ram intake (banks)stage 3 injectors air raid filter and 4 inch exhaust.wouldnt trade my 12 valve for 10 chevys or fords.,but mine dont smoke ,thanks for the info.
Arp headstuds and while you do that I would do new upgraded valve springs
pretty sure you have to remove the injector pump to do a tappet cover. Just so you know.
u don't but it makes it a hell of a lot easier 👍
Ok sorry I was wrong. Thanks for the info guys. I've never have had to take one off before.
thats the truth!
Gov spring will make a huge diff in drivability.
Will your camera sit on the dash ok? Other youtubers with manuals do it. Great video!
I would get a kdp & billet tappet cover
Next round of mods possibly BHAF and intake elbow. I would change trans fluid and filter next. Then the exterior !
May not have a filter in trans not sure.
I dig your new dually man
Did you see a good difference in power after this?
How much would that decrease your fuel mileage? Just curious
Depends on how much smoke. With 6-8 seconds of black smoke under normal acceleration, my mpg went down from 20-23 to 16-19 on 3-4 seconds of black smoke with light pedal pressure. Why not just do the AFC LIVE from Power Driven Diesel? It's awesome
I know it's supposed to be a sleeper/grandpa truck but what's your thoughts on a roll pan for the old girl?
loving the videos!!!!
Awesome videos man. Can’t wait to tear into my ‘94 12 valve! I’ve got some questions for you about my build, could I email you my info?
how to get fuel and power extra from a star wheel?
You might've already ordered them but if you want it to roll coal and have more power get oversized fuel lines, lift pumps, and 150+hp injectors
Craigo MX on the list
LOUD 'N' PROUD I'm surprised that you actually responded😂I'm a really big fan & I think that it's amazing you even take my opinions into consideration 😂
Bro if you wanna roll coal just drop it a gear I didn’t realize this was a manual trans. Do you know if it works for an auto trans?
My Dually wouldn’t smoke either (6 speed 24v) with an Exhaust/Downpipe
I love this video it helped me lots today thank you.
What size of washer is that?
I'm subed to Dippin' Diesel. Keep up the great vids, and love the truck miss the other white Dodge :(

Mark Rich 😂😂😂
hi will this work on 12 V C8.3 motor ??
Awesome video! I'm a diesel Mechanic and I didn't even know this
Just wondering if you are going to tint your windows?
When you working on the nasty red ?
The 215hp pumps can put out a ton of hp
if your gonna be adding power and doing all these mods take care of the killer dowel pin before you kill ur engine
Awesome. Good job bro
Are you ever gonna paint it or are you gonna leave it?
COwheelieboy eventually haha... it’s been like 12 days of owning it though haha
LOUD 'N' PROUD I'm so glad you got a dually they look so good
u get a BHAF for it yet? easy, effective and cheap 👍

No Guilt Gaming obviously it’s gonna be higher quality... just wasn’t sure if it was necessary.
Just started watching your channel. I have a 96 3500 12 valve with 202,000. Are the airbags worth getting? Looks like I found a new channel to subscribe to!
Timing, then fuel, then smoke screw ... But first, a pyro is needed and should be installed...
