Sometimes I think Conan is my favorite, other times I'm not sure. I wonder if it's just nostalgia and being an Arnold fanboy. But one thing's for sure, aside from LOTR, no other medieval fantasy movie has ever come close to being as epic as Conan the Barbarian.

Yes. John Milius's writing drops these references throughout. It's based as hell - in an era when this was still tolerated - and you're right. Basil Poledouris' EPIC score makes Wagner seem restrained. There's a re-recorded 2-Disc CD version (on YT too) that's a must for those who love this music. Both the film and OST are so masculine your testosterone levels rise just watching the film! By Crom, it's good!
