Single best movie soundtrack of all time, the first 15-20 minutes of the movie is basically an opera. Little dialogue, just reaction and music. This film does not get enough credit for how amazing it was put together, filmed, written and acted. Oddly enough being one of Arnold's first movie roles, it ended up being one of his best.

This is one of many movies that my Dad secretly took me to. I remember siting there with him when Arnold first came on the screen, and we both looked at each other and made the F*CK YEAH face! All my friends were jealous when I told them my Dad took me to see this. He took me to see Heavy Metal when it came out and he said, you REALLY can't tell anyone that I took you to see this! The old man took me to see Friday the 13th and First Blood, he loved these kind of movies until the day he checked out! I saw so many of these types of movies with him and I never said a word to my Mom! RIP POP!

My Mom took me to see Stir Crazy in the theatre, I was 8 and the stripper club scene had my mouth agape, my eyes slowly drifted over to see my Mom's reaction. She said and did nothing. The brief boob shot wasn't so much a big deal. I could see that on HBO after 8 on tv. I think it's great your Dad took you to see Heavy Metal. How old were you?

He didn't want me to swear around everybody because my Mom didn't like that, he was pretty lax because he cussed all the time too. He just made sure that I knew the difference between a movie, and reality. I think many people have lost the plot on those lines.

This is textbook filmmaking at it's best. All the effort, all the skill, all the talent, all the artistry, all the passion.....this is why Conan was the incredible film that it turned out to be. This is the dedication that creates a timeless and classical film. It is a shame that film does not honour that tradition today.

  • @420haxx
    @420haxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

What an awesome documentary on a criminally under appreciated film, what makes it even better is that all the people who were involved in it's production seem to hold the experience in an extremely high regard.
Conan the Barbarian is still to this day the most gritty and believable presentation of a mythical bygone age ever committed to film. The casting is perfect, the tone and direction are spot on and with all the beautiful locations, great practical effects and stuntwork, amazing sets and fantastic production values, the whole experience is so immersive you can practically smell the environment presented on screen - then there is the *Legendary* score by Basil Poledouris which just takes the whole ensemble to another level of epic.
This film is a true masterpiece and John Milius was right when he said to Arnold 'Pain is temporary but this film is forever'. It's just a shame Milius never got another shot at the franchise, his passion for it is clear to see.

One of the greatest cinematic events of all time. I know when this came out the buzz on the street (hearing now that Oliver Stone planned a whole bunch of them) was three movies, Conan the Barbarian, Destroyer and Conqueror with Arnold as the lead. The dramatic shift in direction with Destroyer derailed the whole damn thing, and it's truly sad because these films could've been bigger than the MCU and Star Wars combined had they been realized. I mean this was Game of Thrones before it was a thing! The cast was perfect, the script was amazing and they made this movie totally believable. This movie can never be remade with the same success, and now it's too late to fix Destroyer, but they could always make Conqueror.

Come to me my child come ( SMASH) ! THAT IS STRENGTH BOY ! THAT IS POWER! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?! Look at the strength of your body, the desire in your heart? I GAVE YOU THIS! Such a waste! Contemplate this on the Tree of Woe Crucify him

There is a deep philosophy to R.E Howard's writing.
    Courage
    Resilience
    Heroism
The idea that the human being is by far more capable than expected..
The whole diatribe of Thulsa Doom " steel is not strong... flesh is stronger " exemplifies it

I like to interpret this quote as not meant to dissuade one from violence...but to encourage them to inject a certain level of repugnance in their own methods & violence so as to dissuade the enemy from using violence against them; you shall very well be & embrace the savage, for that is what you are. Use it.

"...every single weapon, everything has to be something that has the practicality and it would work."
The best proof of this is Conan's Sword when it was the subject of the show "Forged in Fire" as out of hundreds of swords they've made this design performed the best out of all of them,
even beating every historical sword in existence.

This was one of the best movies in history and was very under rated. Great score, great story, great acting and directing. I really wish Arnold would finish this series with the last Conan as a king. This movie inspired me to work out as a teenager and ultimately become a Cop. I’m retired now I would like to see the conclusion of this saga.

"He's looking for the person that is the person. Your face is right. Your stature is right. Your athletic ability is right."
One of the details of great movies. Nowadays we get called racist for pointing that out in movies where already established characters are changed or look odd.

A great movie in it’s genre. One of, if not the best. As was highlighted in this too short documentary, it had all the elements to make it so. Arnold as the titular character, a director that understood the mission, characters and story. The other, no less important actors, players, and musicians. Better than it’s given credit for by the general movie going audience. I’m glad it’s got its supportive fan base even all these years later.

I saw this film alone on my 24th birthday. I had just moved to a new city and didn't know anybody yet. I remember being completely transported by the soundtrack. When the film was over I went out, bought another ticket and sat through the film a second time just to listen to that symphony again.
