Outstanding video. I’ve watched 5 others and yours is by far the most clear. Thank you.

I got the LMC5 kit last week. Got as far as removing the orange wire. No mater what I used, their tool or a jewelers screwdriver, the wire would not come loose. Buttoned everything back up and tried again yesterday after picking up a pin removal kit. I tried every little pick but again, the orange wire would not come out. I didn't want to start cutting and splicing wires and on a whim I tried the green wire on the pink connector but again it would not come out. Buttoned it back up, put the pieces for the kit back in the package. I ordered the simulator that goes under the steering wheel. I will hold onto both of these since I am not having the column lock issue and haven't had it since I bought the car.

I said same thing as you then the car stranded me 2 x. Once on a 3 hour cruise to other coast of Florida and another at a valet parking lot right in front of all the people and cars. Valet dude was like…your steering no turn and car no start” I’m like wtf? Then I saw the wheel locked and key do nothing. I had to be towed both times. I installed the lmc5 and all good for 9 years. I’m not electrically inclined. I still did it myself in 94 degrees outside. The wires you are referring to are a bitch to pop out of their little sockets. I was afraid I was going to snap one and then ruining my bcm connections. I used a test light pointy end and got them out.

I never had the sterring column lock on me or the sterring lock message. My security light started coming on while driving. So the electrical shop said it needed a module bypass. So after that was done, I got my car back, and when backing out of my driveway, my car died. That's when the "Pull key, wait 10 seconds" message first started. It doesn't do it every start. But for several years now, I always turn the key to see if that message comes up, before I start it. Because out in public it's embarrassing! So I've just recently found out about the LMC5 mod. And I just ordered one. I'll probably do the brown wire, because I have a 1998, so I've heard about the small % that need the brown wire. Will definitely use your awesome video when I install it 😃👍

Be careful. If you stall the car by letting the clutch out too fast you'll get the message and have to pull the key - embarrassing and dangerous if you are stuck in traffic. Definitely do the brown wire mod.

Good job well done. The good news is that now I've watched this all I have to do is to go look at mine and see if mine has the LMC mod already done and if not, I've got your video to guide me through the process - thank you. 👏🇬🇧

This video answered my question that others may have. My '99 Corvette came with an LMC5 module already installed. However, I still get the "Pull Key Wait 10 Sec." message intermittently when going to start the car. After reading about the "Brown Wire Mod" I looked at the LMC5 module installed in the car and it does NOT have this wire. So, there evidently is a newer version of the LMC5 module that has the wire so I must order a new one. Emailing Compliance Parts (the mfr.) about my question was useless. They didn't reply (am I surprised?) So, if you are still getting the message and there is no brown wire coming from the LMC5 you'll have to replace it with the newer version. Hope this helps anyone else.

Is this from the key not being recognized by the car ignition? Can the ignition and keys be changed to correct this?

I've been through it all on the 2003 C5. One recommendation as a general maintenance item is to use APA to clean the resister on the key. Also consider cleaning the ignition key slot. GM should be shot for this frustration. Did the "brown wire" without hesitation during initial install. No fun in the tiny space for a 74 yo geezer!!! Nice job on the vid!!!

I agree I am 71 but I still wrench did it all my life I crossed the green wire the first time why IDK but fixed it the second time the sad part my 97 had the recall done in 2004 nice fix GM !!! I called Chevy and said we only fix a recall once well it was your problem in the first place ! What happen if the steering wheel locks on a turn ?? Maybe someone has been killed but you know they would pay to cover that accident GM >

Agreed on the GM comment. My '99 would "XMAS tree" (sit there and flash the instrument panel LCD readout) and make clicking noises when turning the key and I couldn't crank the starter. After 15-20 minutes of turning the key to "Start" it would occasionally make connection and fire up the starter. It turns out the ignition switch contacts were all burnt. I replaced the switch and everything worked as normal and I could start the car. I took the old switch apart and it was an inherently bad design. Every contact was burnt. Bean counters can ruin a really good car in a heartbeat.

Mine did this, and the fuel cut off 5 times and it finally stopped. AC condensation was leaking onto my steering wheel lock relay switch above the bcm passenger footwell. Not sure if you are having the same issue as me. Which means I might have an insect or something blocking the condensation drip line.

4,678 miles on a 97-04 vette? How olds this movie :D. Ps the lmc5 I installed fixed mine for 9 years so far. I got the pull key one time in 9 years since I installed this and still have the car. I hate it.
