    I always knit hats top-down. Tha't how my grandma taught me and it's a lot easier: you stop increasing when you get the right size and that's it, with any yarn, any needles, any stitch.

    You have one of my favorite NYC mugs! I lived in Brooklyn for 10 years and that evokes such fond memories in many senses.
    Also, I continue to love how you are walking people through the sweater KAL. It sounds so approachable, starting with an easily accessible yarn and continuing with the support you are giving.

    You can just steam a sweater w the ribbing pinned out to achieve a similar effect. At least in my world !
    Also recommend the “alternating cast on” for similar look to Italian cast off. It takes a few tries to get it bc it’s a different pattern to cast on, but once you learn it, it’s super intuitive and easy Just make sure you downsize your needles x2.

    Knitting hats from the top down makes it a million times easier to size a hat for a specific person, rather than hoping a bottom up pattern fits ok on someone within a certain size range.

    Eeeeeeeeeee! Little Knights! I love it. My 2 kids are now 10 and 16 but once upon a time were both Little Penguins. We love that the program that Sidney Crosby started here has spread across the entire NHL. So much of my knitting gets done at their games and I love when other parents get a bit invested in what I'm working on and check in on my WIP progress throughout the season.

      I'm so glad that your Stripe Hype blocked so well. Isn't it magical!? It's so worth the extra time and delayed gratification. 😊
      And my joggers are from Vuori. I wear them ALL THE TIME. The best joggers ever. Worth every penny. Trust me. (not sponsored or affiliated in any way, btw)

    It seems like you’d have to give careful thought to where you want stripes like these to land relative to the collar. Before blocking, the stripe at the lowest point of the collar looked kind of pinched where it met the ribbing, but now it looks much more even. Would you comment on issues related to locating stripes sometime please, thanks.

    Oh man Tayler! I loved that sweater from the start. ❤️
    I wanted to be a part of the Franken sweater knit a long, I want to yell out “ wait for me, come back!!”
    I really thought this would redemption sweater. I am knew to knitting and I bought a pattern that used beginner , I admit that I felt confident 😂 then I started having problems with short rows, even though I can knit heel flap socks easily, I don’t want to BLAME the pattern but for me personally read short row instructions and going back and forth step1 row1,23 then step 2 …. Step 3 go back and knit half of step 1 then half of step 2 and an additional step was too much, turning my work and eyes all over the page, was just too much for me, I redid the sweater so often that I started 3 new balls of yarn both ends when it would start looking messed up, since it is the collar it can’t look fuzzed. I did wet and smooth the yarn out a few times too. 😤Anyway when I seen your first Franken sweater knit along I thought a gorgeous sweater with live help 🎉
    Still messing with that sweater while looking for another similar pattern I lost my patience looking through patterns.
    Anyway I made a Patreon account and I going to watch along on until I figure yarn out to start late.

    Frankensweater 2.0 is another gorgeous WIP. Kudos for blending luxury yarn with a basic as it makes knitting more affordable for everyone.
    I'm not sure if you showed us any books from your stash for more knitting basics like your top down hat. Right now as a knitting newbie I'm working from patterns. Can be very frustrating... especially hats. My nemesis of anything knit!
    Enjoy your time with the Little Knights.

    I am going to try the top down method of making a hat. That is why I always love to crochet hats, since they are mostly made top down. Makes a lot of sense.
    Stripe Hype is looking amazing. Wet blocking is the way to go.
    I have an ancient grid notebook I bought at Ross for $1 which is my knitting and crochet journal. I love leafing through it to see my notes on old projects. It is about halfway full now, and I have been using it for years and years.

    So… I recently shrunk a sweater that I didn’t realize it was 100% cotton. It now has a very dumpling shape to it. I’m going to wet block it and see what I can do. 😁 it obviously already shrunk, so I’m not gonna probably make it any bigger, but I’m hoping I can shape it a little better.

    I want to be very honest with you about the striped sweater! I hated it! The bottom was too dumpling for me! Longer or not blousy would have been great! The block was the solution, now I love it! I was never a fan of those 70s era blousy cuffs and blousy at the bottom. I quit knitting until that style was dead! But kudos to you for seeing the beauty it would be after blocking!

    • @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
      @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I appreciate this because I completely understand the sentiment. Though I didn’t hate it before the blocking, I can absolutely see how that “style” is just not for everyone. It was very…niche. 😂 But now? It’s like a whole new sweater…and it looks intentional and classic. A fantastic example of the beauty of blocking. ❤

    • @stilllookingfortreasure
      @stilllookingfortreasure 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The problem with the wet blocking is that now the front looks like it's hiking a bit. And I think it had always hiked but the band pulled it in and made it dumpling like so we never noticed it. I still think it looks better with a tiny bit of front hiking than it did before.

    Hi Tayler. I just had reason to look back over my ravelry profile and found I had written 2023 was my year of serious knitting. By that I meant gauge swatches and …. BLOCKING!!! I agree that it makes suuuuch a difference to your garment. You describe it perfectly “it takes a garment from something you like and will wear to something you love and will live in”. I know this is a long comment but I also have to tell you I did a double take on your “jungle” project bag - I got one just like it for Xmas AND I am currently making the Monday Sweater and not only does my pattern but also my yarn looks exactly like yours. 😂😂

    To go with your Rollbahn book, you should consider picking up some Pilot Frixion pens. 😍 They come in all kinds of zaney (as well as traditional) colours, and the ink is erasable with friction. I believe they also make Frixion markers/hi-lighters. Perfect for adjusting notes.

    • @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
      @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! So any time you completely soak your sweater, you will need to reshape it and block it out as it dries. However, if you're working with wool, this is not something you should have to do much at all. Spot cleaning is most often all you'll need. I mean unless things get really dirty. 😉

      I was wondering the same thing! I only recently got the hang of using magic loop, and by recently I mean yesterday…. So I’m having trouble getting my head around the mechanics of using the two needles. I guess it would be like knitting on two straight needles but they’re a double pointed, and everything is connected in the round? 🤣 It makes my head hurt, but the advantage of being able to try on the yoke seems like it would be worth figuring out!

I don't understand why you keep saying "dumpling" (like the food), do you mean maybe "dumpy" or "frumpy"? Also what is a "Frankensweater"? Is it a pattern? I think by ‘dumpling’ she means the hem pulling in and creating a sort of blousy shape to the top, where the bodice is larger than the ribbed hem and sort of creates a billowy belly like a little dim sum dumpling.
