    Oh Thank you, Thank you Kaci, I too have a vest that is wayyy too big. It's still on the needles but is made of a woolly farm yarn held with mohair. Meaning the frogging process would be a gargantuan task. I have been trying to figure out how to eliminate bulk under the arms, Your thought of steeking and adding buttons or other decorative closure to join the front and back is genius. I now have a plan.

      So glad I could help! Steeking is a lifesaver for those too big projects. We will see if it works for the both of us

    I don't know how you picked 5 Kaci, I have about 400 cable jumpers in my favorites in Ravelry. So much loveliness and so much indecision.

    I'm not a cable knit person (although i could go for the Porter cardigan for my husband with enough patience and time), but I really appreciate the yarn choice lesson! That's often assumed knowledge in knitting so having someone explain is wonderful for making it "out loud" information.

    Loose knitter here! Worsted gauge for me is more like 18or19 depending on the yarn of course. One of the reasons I love Double Sunday is that when I knit my Artisane Cardigan I actually got gauge with the recommended needles! Couldn’t believe it and my cardigan fits exactly how I planned. And the stitches are so round and perfect, it was no effort to get it looking just right.

    I’m finishing up my Moby sweater by petite knit in some yarn I got at Wisconsin sheep and wool festival. Locally raised sheep, wool is harvested and spun in its natural state with some mohair mixed in. Each hank has the sheep’s name on it 🥹. I have a little more of the last sleeve and cuff and then the collar. Next up is the sandness garn Camilla cabled cardigan in bright red for Christmas 🎄!!

    Lol you're quite young, Kaci!I saw Grease at the theatre when it first came out in 1978. My sister and I begged my Mom and Dad for the vinyl soundtrack and we still know the words to every song to this day! A fun musical classic film. Yes we all wanted to be ONJ at that time. ( I was 12 then 😂 )

    My next planned sweater is Kutovakika's Wishbone Sweater. I wanna make it for my mom. The design was practically made for her, she'd love it so much. Just have to figure out how to add 6" of extra ease to her largest size without throwing off the proportions. It'll be tricky, but I think I'm up for it.

    • @YoungfolkKnits
      @YoungfolkKnits  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oooo maybe a seed stitch or moss stitch? I can’t remember what the background stitch for the cables is

      @nicoletim8095 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @YoungfolkKnits I can't either, but I also haven't bought the pattern yet. I might be able to just add a cable to each side. Idk if the arms need to be widened though.

    Oof, I was planning to knit the antipope but I was only within 10m of the recommended meterage and after the book club cardigan I wasn’t going to risk it. Blessing in disguise tbh because I’m LOVING what it is turning into. Nora Gaughn is incredible. I’ve been working on her Geiger cardigan since April and I’m so excited for when it’s finished!

    I am knitting the Siri sweater right now with Berrocco Ultra Alpaca. I fell in love with that pattern because it had just the right amount of cables for me. It was challenging in the beginning because you have to keep track of so many things butnow that I am on the sleeves it’s smooth though slow sailing

    I am almost finished my first real cable pattern and love it! Many more on my list now (some overlap with your bundle for sure). The one I am knitting right now is the Dagmar Jacket by Petiteknit. Its very cable/chart beginner friendly I think. My next one might be the Sirena by Cookie The Knitter. And then I already have a long list of others I love...

    Kaci you are so lovely....old...lol...you are far from old. But I am with you I love Grease! I would love to see how you would go about steeking the large vest. That just sounds terrifying...lol but I am really interested in the process...just a thought. Thanks for sharing these patterns. I have only ever done cables in a hat. I have to admit a cable sweater sounds daunting but you have inspired me with the Siri sweater solo...I also noticed she has the pattern as a cardigan too....oh the choices. I also want to say how I appreciate your discussions on yarn choices/gauges, etc..very helpful. Hope your hands and wrists are mending well.

    This is a great list, and love your advice on choosing yarns as well! I can also highly recommend the Honeycomb Aran - it’s a gorgeous and free pattern for a very classic all over cabled pullover. I just finished mine recently in Wool of the Andes and have been living in it!
    I’m very much Team Seam for cabled sweaters because I love the stability the seams give to the finished garment, but fully agree that two at a time sleeves are the way! I’m about to start the Porter cardigan as well - clearly having a moment with epic cabled projects over here 😂 thanks again for a lovely episode

    Dear Kaci….. I had the same issue with the Myra Vest form Irene Lin….although knitting in gauge, good tension my vest was massive. I had knitted 2/3 of the front. Luckily I frogged it before investing more time and energy. Your other choice, the Eurus is on my list…..but I’m concerned that it looks very loose like the Myra and yet wide!? If that makes sense 😆 love your videos! Thank you for creating them!❤

    • @YoungfolkKnits

    I thought I would share another potential option for you for your oversized cable vest. I had two cardigans that were at least two sizes too large after some significant weight loss and I considered sticking them but ended up hearing it’s a Sarah mention felting her sweater and I decided I would give it a try. Both of my cardigans turned out perfectly. They shrink both length and width wise, so I was willing to run the risk of ruining it, but they both turned out great. I put them in a sweater bag in the washing machine on high heat, high spin and then I hung them out to dry laid them out to dry and they turned out great so I thought I’d add that as an option

    It's so funny that you did this whole cable video because I've been wanting to try cables and have been terrified. Of all your favs, do you have a suggestion for a beginner cable knit. It doesn't have to be a sweater.

    My favorite cable knits right now are the Aspen Cardigan by Michele Wang (I want to knit another one, a size or 2 smaller that stops just past my bum), the Champagne Sweater by Sari Nordlund, Braids jumper by Halyna Shemchuk which isn't size inclusive nor do I think it's in my language but it's such a wearable commercial design that I love, and the Helsinki Trousers that Sari designed for Novita are GORGEOUS. Not size inclusive at all, but a true work of art. Lastly would have to be the Rowlock by Norah Gaughan
