@alexandriadean2222it’s dying because we live in a digital age where paper is becoming less and less used by average people on daily basis. It’s Art at this point not a paper weight. That’s the problem here is that most people don’t care and will not care about it cause why would I waste so much money for something so little you know cause it looks cool. Not enough to justify it in my opinion but to each their own tho

@@pyrotechnic96It's a dying craft because it's a waste of money 😂 legitimately because on a day-to-day life information is more digital than it is on paper and the only people to have enough paper to get paper weights are usually companies or people that work with that much amount of paper information and I don't think they're going to spend anywhere from 3 to 13 thousand dollars on a paperweight these things are just overpriced art pieces

Seriously though. Spending that kind of money on a paper weight honestly seems wicked to me. Think how much good could be done for someone with just $4000. That could truly change someone's direction in their life. Could give them the car they've needed to get going or get their bills paid or so many other good things that would last for eternity. These paper weights and all that are going to be burned up at the end of the world. What's the point of buying such expensive items when you understand they will be destroyed, no matter how much you love them or cherish them, they will be destroyed. So why even buy it in the first place? A $4000 paperweight really gets my point across. Because a rock from the ground, for free, could be used. So why not use that and give the money you would use in the paper weight to someone in need? You know those good deeds you would do for others, those deeds do not get destroyed at the end of the world. Those good deeds actually last forever. You will have always had done that good deed. Some would say oh you are paying for the people to make the item and you five them what they need by buying the paperweight. My answer to that is why has that person invested so much into such a vain art? They should not be supported because their work is useless. Make something thats actually useful with your skills. That's like a woodworking that could make tables, chairs, a house, but all they do is make toothpicks....a waste of a talent.

I was given that "paper wieght" blown work by a friend. Not only a beautiful piece of art work but sentimental cus of who gave it. My point is its not just a paperweight. Its much more. There are people who have more money than they know what to do with. $14,000 is a $1. My cousin got married last year to a woman whose mom is a billionaire & wife is billionaire as she is an only child. The family has been in NYC real estate about a hundred years. The wedding was held on a huge property they own so that was free & they still managed to spend about 3million on the wedding not paying for an event location. There were numerous huge flower arrangements- some bigger than an SVU- done by famous florist that cost up to 50k for ONE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT. They are allegedly liberal rich people but there is no such thing in my opinion. 50k could change the trajectory of a persons life. It could be the difference of a person struggling & living near poverty their entire life to achieving a comfortable life (as long as the money is spent though fully). A private student loan of $50k cost nearly $150k after interest. If the 50k was used to pay one paying student debt off it would be like giving them $150k. Not to mention one less bill to pay which is one lesss thing to worry about this less stress & allows money to be saved which is a comfort to have a money if you need it

Seriously. While I admire the work and artistry of these… I just can’t justify spending thousands on a goddamn paperweight, even if I was wealthy 🫤

In 2003 I took a seminar with Paul Stankard. A world renowed paperweight artist. The topic was on the difference be art & craft. Layer that year, my school had a glass conference w guest Italian master flameworker Ceasre Toffilo. After the conference, a bunch of blowers were all kickinh it just blowing glass. All of a sudden Mr. Stankard walked into the shop w Mr. Toffilo. He didnt speak any english, but he gave the shop creator a thumbs up. We all just looked at eachother w jaws dropped. I have 1 photo of this moment that ill never forget as long as i live. A truely surreal & unforgetable experience of a lifetime.

People don't seem to have any appreciation for arts in these comments. Yes, it's expensive, but the work put into this is tremendous and tedious. All those tiny crystal flowers? Probably took weeks just to make those

You should try lampworking, glass work on a small scale. It's a joy as a hobby, and there are lampworkers who happily show others how to melt glass. I often gave others the opportunity while I was still physically able to do so.

As a kid, i was so fascinated by these paper weights which looked like huge marbles with little figures like flowers & patterns inside them. It almost felt to me like a whole different world inside a round glass. I used to spend hours just looking and observing the patterns inside them.❤

I used to love collecting marbles when I was younger. In the town I grew up in I’d find them pretty much everywhere, I remember my grandmother gave me one of her old boxes to store them in and I would sit there for hours on end just shaking the box, picking one out and stare at them 😂

I use additional papers to act as paper weights. Some of my stacks are three feet tall, with two feet of paper weights.
