That was not a failure. We were there and saw how many times you stopped and probably wanted to quit right then. But you didn’t. You went on again, absolutely at and then beyond your limit. You pushed yourself harder mentally and physically in 7km than the leaders who run up those hills and complete the whole 60km in 3 hours. The conversations we have with ourselves in these situations are the most painful, frustrating but ultimately most useful moments we have in terms of achieving future goals. So take the lessons from Sunday you determined, duff ankled legend and best of damn luck with your next challenge. But most of all you didn’t fail, you pushed right to the point where literally trying to climb a few metres more would have been really dangerous and then you made the right decision. That’s something to be endlessly proud of wherever you end up in the rankings. You were the bravest bast’d we met yesterday and I look forward to shaking your hand next time I see you on a hill somewhere 👍🏻
Fair play to you for having a go but it sounds like it's maybe not the event for you. There are tons of cycling challenges that involve, well, cycling. I got round the peaks this year after crashing out in 2017 and seriously injuring myself. You didn't miss much pal because it only got worse as the day went on. Whernside was particularly bad with wind and rain and millions of steps!!!! I hope that you keep at it as you sound like a really decent chap who's getting where he wants to be. Keep up the good work.
Find some stairs outside, bike on shoulder and repeat 5 times. Absolutely destroys you for the first 5 sessions, then you get accustomed to it. Simon Fell still always hurts though. There's a really good simulation of Simon Fell in the Peaks if you're interested for next year

Curious where this simulation in the Peaks is if you wouldn't mind sharing? I couldn't find anything looking at maps
@@AndyC_Outdoors go down Chapel Gate - near the bottom, turn right, there’s a steep, steep climb back up to the ridge almost to Lords Seat
@@richardallan9476 epic thank you, will note that for next year
