I’ve tried this exercise and it’s amaaaazing. I tried having my husband massage but only made it worse. Thank you for this video.

In 2014 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. For the past four years life has been very challenging, being only 22, not settled in a place for more than 5 months at a time, living with abusive family and not being able to afford medical for my condition. I have been living insulin free for over a year, but complications kicked in, i struggle to walk, i fall when i try, i cannot jump or lift heavy things or i fall. My legs are dying fast. I tried these exercises this morning and gave it about two hours and tried again, the results are very very amazing. It did not fix the problem but it gave me the ability to stretch and walk around for a bit without falling. I feel the more i do this, the better it is going to get! Thank you for teaching me something that 8 Specialists ive been seeing these last 4 years wasnt able to teach me. Its awfully sad how the medical business now days is more about the money than it is about the Patient.

It somewhat comforts me to know I am not alone with my chronic pain . I was diagnosed with M.S 30 years ago , and 5 years ago with neuropathy and trigeminal neuralgia . I should be in a wheel chair by now , but what helped me to stay on my feel and still be able to walk ( not very good but walking) is doing inner work and healing traumas and learning to connect with myself . I still have a lot of pain , and even though it’s also physical , there is always an emotional and mental connection to every physical condition . So my work is not done , but I have seen improvement throughout the years as a result of my spiritual and inner work . I know it works because I also work with others for 30 years . So I hope someone will take something from what I wrote and it helps that person ❤️

Not only was the nerve pain painful, but probably worse was the stress it caused me. I of course googled every linked disease, EVEN THOUGH I suspected the issue was stemming from my back and down my legs.
Stretching made ALL the difference in the world! Thanks for the video, that redirected me, into the direction I knew. Feels great to not have the pain! If I sense it coming on I just take time to stretch. Usually it first hurts in my left foot, so I stretch the right side of my back and hip! 😁

Yes Excersize helps. The more I walk my Service K 9 during the day the less pain I have especially at night. That is when the pains in my feet are the worse. Keep moving step by step. I have to keep something that is comfortable on my feet at all times other wise the pain increases. Wear something on feet even when in bed; keeps pains undercontrol. I don't take pain meds and won't do pain meds.

My PN has come on very rapidly. I’ve been sort of being treated for it. By that, I mean I’ve seen my doctor several times over the past 9 months and finally got a referral to a specialist as we can’t seem to work out what is causing it to continue to get worse. These stretches have given me the best relief I’ve had in all that time. So simple and easy, but the returns are a godsend. Thank you for this. There are so many of us living with this and we all know how life altering it is both mentally and physically. It certainly didn’t help my mental state as I was staying pretty tightly isolated during this pandemic. That’s an awful lot of time to be alone with nothing, but a wall of constant pain. I had my wonderful family with me on our bubble and they’ve been very patient and understanding, but you still feel very alone in that pain. I wish everyone who finds this the very best of luck. Hopefully, a cure can be found and we won’t just be in mitigation mode. Again, thank you very much for these stretches.

My case is absolutely excruciating. Exercises like this, and I’ve done them before, seem to help the body as a whole, but in the affected areas, it causes a great deal of lingering pain. I go to physical therapy for the expressed purpose of avoiding foot amputation. I’m not diabetic, I’m idiopathic. My veins are starting to pop out and give me another excruciating symptom. Watching for circulation problems and discoloration on and by the veins. The pain progresses over the years. I’ve had it for 12. I wish everyone the best. Keep exercising but listen to your body and don’t overdo it, that has consequences. And always keep in mind that exercising in the pool works, especially for severe cases like mine. Keep up the good work, doc. The neuropathy community needs help! Bruce

Yep Tom, I find Drs really don't know all that much. You have to advocate for yourself and demand referrals to physical therapy and neurology. Drs are so specialized these days it takes months and sometimes years to get a true diagnosis of one's condition. I also use the internet and youtube to do my own research. I had a great endocronigist who would google things during my visit with him when I asked specific questions. LOL Too bad he has left my clinic he really was a good doctor.

I had thought "bull", but decided to go off the morphine. Note: she was not in favor of my doing so, but I no longer wanted to feel and be limited by them. I cut back safely, but off them. She's impressed lol so am i!!! It's been close to 18 months. If you research it and have support,,,,for me I DO feel much better.

I have been suffering with Neuropathy since AUG 2020 after a really bad covid fight that almost killed me and got me diagnosed with diabetes. I have been trying all kinds of things and honestly, while I get some minor temporary relief, I can clearly tell I am not actively combating the pain, just making it hurt less for a few hours.
I have struggled to find any clear and honest assistance, either paid for while in Dr offices or searching online on my own. Just lots of gimmicks for sale or snake oil procedures.
This morning I am trying your stretch routine. I am going to stick with it religiously for the next 2 weeks and come back here with my results.
If nothing else, thank you creating honest helpful content in a sea of get rich schemes for this condition. It's such a frustrating thing to live with and demoralizing when searching for results and all you see are get rich predators. So, thank you for this.

Your exercises help with the numbness, balancing, and got my hip and lower abs smaller.
I make a habit of doing the exercises even if I was sitting watch TV, just rotate my angles and move them up and down.
My foot neuropathy was resulted from my drinking. I stop for 3 months now, well cut down 95%. I'm able to run and slowly regain
the feeling/control in my foot. 9/14/22.

I am type 2 diabetic, and just about 3 months ago I started to get really bad foot pain. Burning, sharp needle like pain, and numbness. During the day i hardly notice it. At times it does hurt, but I really feel it during the night. I get about 3 hours of sleep, and nap during the day if possible. The pain keeps me up, and doesn’t let me sleep. I’ll definitely give these exercises a go before bed. I did notice since no movement during sleep the pain builds up so it wakes me. I never really took care of myself being a diabetic nor took any medication, but that’s all changed now I’m back on my meds! But bad eating habits are hard to kick. Definitely making better life choices!!! Alcohol was one of the hardest bad habit to kick I am now 3 weeks sober it’s not easiest, but I’m doing it, and I’m proud of myself for that.

Thank you so so so much. I started having arm and leg pain with tingling in both my hands and feet starting last week, with my doctors thinking my heartburn medication may have helped lead to vitamin deficiencies and potentially causing my nerve damage, anemia, or peripheral neuropathy (whatever this might be). Have yet to be diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, but all signs point to it; just waiting now to get some blood work done for vitamin deficiency and hopefully get an EMG done with a neurologist. I’ve spent the last few nights struggling to get relief in order to fall asleep, but your exercise videos for both hands and feet have helped me already on my first time doing them. I had spinal fusion a few months back, went to physical therapy, but I wasn't given exercises for peripheral neuropathy, he's actually a good pt, so I'm not mad about the mistake. Anyway, surgeon said the numbness, tingling and pain is normal, but strangely had started to worsen a few weeks ago. I've done several of your exercises in the past so found this video, it's gotten so much better. Not nearly as painful, not much numbness and only slight tingling. I'm hoping this isn't permanent, hoping all the walking is good enough for growing scar tissue, I have a feeling the scar tissue is there, but surgeon is still hopeful the nerve pain will go. If it ended up being permanent, these exercises are enough to help manage the pain, I'm not scared anymore. Thank you so much for making this video. 💗

I am only a 31 year old male, only weigh 150 pounds, and am having a number of issues, which seems to have come out of nowhere, hitting me like a lightning bolt. About a year, and a half ago, I started to experience pain in BOTH of my knees, when standing. It got worse as time went on, and now it's at a point, where I can barely stand, because the pain is so unbearable, and I have to sit after just a few minutes of standing. Both of my knees crack, and pop CONSTANTLY. Seems like it's every time I stand from sitting, and when I walk. I saw an orthopedist about a week ago, they took X-rays, and he said the X-rays look fine. In 2014, I went into that same orthopedic clinic, where there's more than one specialist, and saw a different doctor, for back pain I was having. I had an MRI done of my back. When I went in for my knees a week ago, the doctor brought up my back, and the MRI I had done in 2014, and he said I had some sort of vertebrae fracture, and it caused a disc to bulge, and he seems to think that disc could still be bulging, and could be compressing a nerve, causing my knees to hurt. I don't think that's what's causing it. Why would I feel like I constantly need to pop my knee? Why would they feel almost locked up all the time? My right foot is tingling bad. It's bugging the heck out of me. I've been on Gabapentin since 2013. It's not doing anything to help the tingling either. I'm just ready to give up. I'm miserable, and on top of all this physical pain, Im suffering from anxiety, and panic attacks.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's possible it's coming from your back. When nerves are compressed, they cause muscles to tighten/spasm/not work properly (at any point down the legs), which could cause the locked up feeling or need to pop the knees. Have you tried going to see a physical therapist yet? That would really be the best option.

@@oj907 well that's good that your doctors understand.. I believe mine do too, but to a degree.. because I think others that experience the pain and have to live with it everyday definitely understand because they feel it too.

I have nerve pain and sleep deprivation but doctors have no idea what it is. But I'm certain it's circulation issues due to bad sleep

Thank you Dr Jo. I do wish people would talk about how PN makes it hard to walk. I used to dance the night away and walk for miles and now I give up on getting out of bed because of PN or possible Drop Foot. I am only 65 years old.
I have been doing the foot exercises while lying in bed and can tell circulation is improving. I am also glad you added the leg & standing exercise and I hope to add those as well. I just ordered a yoga mat so I can make a special place to do stretches.
I have been using a cane over the last 3 years and just got a walker/rollator/wheelchair. Mostly got the walker to encourage myself to walk outside the house. My house is small and now so much smaller as I have limited my movements to bed. Really don't need walker in the house.
I have an appt to see physical therapist, but just getting to the therapy site is going to monumental. Just saw a neurologist and will be having tests done at the hospital in December. Just getting help is overwhelming for me and the process is so slow as appointments are scheduled for a couple months out.
So thank you Dr Jo for your youtube channel...hopefully I will be able to walk to the PT room at the clinic with help of the walker but if not I will get wheelchaired in. I won't see PT for a week (day after thanksgiving) but hopefully I will have added your standing exercises by then.

      You're welcome.
PN is such a debilitating thing. I can't imagine having to walk all the time on feet that feel like pins and needles and numbness constantly.
I am glad to hear some of the exercises seem to be helping. Hopefully once you get to go to PT, you will be moving a little better, and hopefully they will be able to help you even further.
Good luck, and let me know how your PT session goes.

Wow! Thank You Dr. Joe! Tonight my feet were on Fire! Toes burning... Very, very painful.... Two Vicodin, and still agony! Tried rubbing my feet, still very painful! Its the first time the tips of my toes felt this bad too! Argggg! Found your page and did your recommended exersises. Dont know if its the combo of stretches, exersises, and Vico, but the flames have temporarily simmered down, at least back in to the pain scale of 1 - 10!
My GP, sad to say, hasn't given one bit of advice on this matter! He's so consumed with being the next local Dr. Oz, that all he's concerned with is me joining his "New Elite Practice!" Yes, for a fee! Should a person see their doctor and come out more disappointed and disgusted than when they walked in!
So thank you for being a real person who cares about others enough to freely share here knowledge!
    All the best... -Mike

Mike, I don't understand how people can take Vicodin as it makes me sick, the same with any Codeine medications. I do take Cymbalta twice a day & that does help with neuropathy.
