The red tail P51 was flown by the Tuskegee Airman during WW II by the most decorated group of pilots, the only Black squadron in the air force Love your channel I have learned a lot
Yep thats correct, and two good movies on this too!!
The movie is very good. The Tuskegee airmen was an all black group of American pilots fought in world war II and they were one of the fears fighter pilots of world war II by the enemy.
I know you are a skilled tech and a great rc pilot but as with any assembly that uses multiple fastenings, its a always a sound approach to get all screws started in their threads first then go ahead and chinch them down. Thanks so much for this detailed assembly video. You always give us the detail other presenters leave out !
I purchased my Red Tail about 7&1/2 yrs ago. Also Version 8. Absolutely love the Tuskegee Airman and what they accomplished. I had issue with joining wings as well. In the center of the wing had plastic which needed to be sanded down to get flush fit. I broke a wingtip trying to assemble the wings prior to discovering the plastic that needed sanding. I had to purchase entire new wing set. I also has the FMS 1400mm P-51B Dallas Darling. Beautiful Warbirds.
Excellent! Sorry to hear about the wing, but glad you resolved it, and thanks for the tip. Some of these planes were like this ALL the time, but I think we're so dang spoiled now, with the latest and greatest renditions...the MFG'ers have really stepped up in a lot of ways, and it's showing in the difference between this, a GOOD model still, and the new stuff - fit and finish is SO MUCH MORE REFINED now! Power to weight ratios are finally getting where the should have been years ago, and this makes it so much easier for folks NEW to the hobby to get started, so we love that!
Thanks for being here with us!
Brian, love your channel. Have been with you and the camera crew for 4+ years. If I could offer a loving word of advice. In my professional experience as a mechanic and maintenance technician for our favorite and largest online shopping provider that rhymes with BAmazon. I never tighten hardware until I have the mounting hardware started with light purchase and then final assembly. This has saved me tons of time during assembly. Tightening hardware to final purchase often will cause offset issues of the next fastener, then I would need to back off the fastener that I had just installed. Get all hardware started in assembly order, obtain the necessary alignment and the final tight the hardware to what ever toque spec is needed. I think puckering should be an ASE / metric standard spec. Note: The camera crew is the best 👍🏼👍🏼. Keep up the long format.
Hi Brian,
Thank you and the camera crew for all the very informative videos over the years.
FYI - what I do is use the Spektrum battery checker to also test and center my servos during the install so I don’t have to wait for the radio install to hook up the control surfaces.
Just a thought. Stay well and keep flying. Thank you.

Anchorage Alaska
Yep, we also do that from time to time. That XBC battery checker has been a God sent!!! I find it to be very helpful, and also used it on the M4 Heli we recently built.
THANK-YOU FOR THE CLOSE UP SCREEN SHOTS AND STEP-BY-STEP WALKTHRU OF THE RADIO SETUP!!!! I know it takes more video time, but as a new user of the NX8, there are so many menu functions I cannot figure out on my own....
You're welcome! We try very hard to not only show WHAT to do, but also why we chose to do it. Definitely takes longer, but we know so many newer pilots OR returning RC pilots need help in this arena. Once you get a few planes under your belt, you may not need much help any more ;)
This is why I love your Channel! No bullshit*t and you show from the beginning to the end what it takes to go from Box to Sky. 🛫✈️
I have 5 channels I do my best to watch soon as they hit.
You're Chanel, Model AV8R, Two Brothers, Tail heavy and Pilot Ryan. I do look at others and I am not going to lie, I appreciate what all of y'all do but yours and the other 3 I can look at when it comes to RC Aircraft and know I am getting truthful information.
Thank you and a thank you to your lovely Wife for her awesome camera work. 👍🏼🤙🏼
Just getting into the hobby, thank you sir, started with omp m1 heli.
Just not enough info for setting up.
Being 70yrs old brain lil slow but determined
Like the p-51 my favorite, B17
Welcome to the hobby! It might take some time, but you'll get it. Our videos are long, but they'll walk you through step by step. Don't be afraid to pause or slow down as you're learning.
First time watching and glad I did and will keep watching some one that explains the recovers and hook up and every thing about the plane love it thank you
I loved mine for its very brief life.
I love the videos, and you are usually my first stop on reviewing a plane. But look at the manual to see where the screws go buddy . 😂 im over laughing that you're just grabbing screws and throwing them in anywhere.... my OCD is kicking in dont mind me. I love the fms p51 and is going to be my next plane. Ill be going through your page to purchase it.
Thanks, and we do sometimes break down and read the manual...but only after I get it wrong - LOL ;)
The reason for the black pilot is because it belonged to the famous "The Tuskegee Airmen". A very famous black squadron who fly escort missions over Europe during WW2.
Yes, thank you! I should have know, but later realized this, and was pretty embarrassed I didn't connect the dots.
I to love taking time to dress the props according to mfg for a real scale look. So with that being said, I spend a lot of time out at the local airport here in Bend Or. where my son works studying props for my builds. In doing so, I’ve noticed that most if not all full scale props are not painted on the back side. Best scenario would be the pilot would not have to see the prop spinning in front of him/her at all, that would be an eye full over time causing undo eye strain and fatigue. If the back of the prop is painted you wouldn’t be able to block out the strobe effect while flying during bright sunny days. A lot of mfgs even go to great lengths to use a non reflective finish on the back sides of props to increase visibility while decreasing the strobe effects during flight.
Yes, but this is not a full scale plane ;) I agree with your very correct statements, but I prefer the safety factor, but to all their own.
Wow!!!! I thought for a moment that there was a problem with youtube. This shows a few hours old. But this is an old model. I have a couple of these. I got my first V8 5 years ago. That's why the assembly is older style....ie. attaching the control horns yourself.
But hey. I love this plane. That's why i have another one in the box now... as an insurance policy lol.
Bit yeah.... it's not a fly on the same day build. It's an old school foam build model.
I still don't believe this is a new video. I think this is a repost of a many years old video
Brand new video, but not brand new model. I think this particular P-51 is real nice!
@BrianPhillipsRC drop an fms 4250-KV580 in it in place of the kv540 and it's night and day.... it'll just keep climbing. It's a one for one swap out.
Yeah. I had just posted a video of mine 2 days before this went up. I was surprised to see another one so quick given how old this model is. But I'm excited to watch yours through because it brings back memories of the challenge of the build. 😆
Nice job Brian 💕
Thank you!
Hi Brian,
Thanks for doing the FMS Red Tail. I met several Tuskegee Airman. Having a Red Tail from the 332nd Flight Group is very special to me. I have this plane, still in the box. Got my first RC plane in July and now have several. Looking forward to flying the Red Tail this spring, (need to improve my skills). I have the STS Jet and love it, try to fly it every day. I am ready to buy another Jet (with SAFE). What do you recommend, the Habu SS 70mm, F-16 70 mm, F-15 64mm? I also have real flight Evolution. Thank you to you and your wife (great fingernail polish) for the great videos.
"looks like we gotta BLACK pilot" 😂😂😂😂 Red Tails Tuskegee airmen! Love your videos sir!
thank you very much!
You're welcome!
It's almost as if FMS fired the guy that put on the control horns, stickers, and exhaust ports for folding the manuals.
But they hired someone for flaps, LEDs and OLEO retracts- and not folded manuals, of course.
Give a little. Take a little 👍
As a recent 'newie' to R/C foam aircraft, I feel it would be nice if the makers could mold appropriate model-stand end plates into the expanded polystyrene left over in the box.
Once they're cut out & the washroom raided for two equal lengths of plastic pipe, job done : )
That would be cool, but funny how much the box really costs the MFG. It can be a pretty decent size of the margin, which is crazy! I love planes, and this plane turned out to be pretty nice, after a lot of trouble to build, but was worth it!
Hey the instruction manual was not folded!! What are they doing!. Wonderful overview & build Bri & Megan. Greetings from Australia
LOL - Exactly!!! Now they'll have to make up for it on the next plane, and fold it TWICE!!!! ;)
😜😆🤓😎
Great video, new subscriber. I recently purchase a used FMS 1450 P-51 PNP. I put a spektrum Ar630 in and want to use gear, flaps, as3x and SAFE using a DX6 radio. Is that possible following your setup steps or do I need a radio upgrade?
What was under the blue tape? 🧐
Mr. BP, I see you haven't done the 1700 Unboxing, Build, & radio setup, would this build & radio setup of the 1450mm be basically the same for the P51 1700MM? I understand the adjustments are not the exact but the walk thru of each step of this your video would be the same, one would just check the manuals settings that are in the book vs these settings of the 1450mm.
Regards Steven
...my apologies, I'm speaking of the FMS P51D
We don't have the 1700mm P-51 yet. Sorry if there were some confusion, but just haven't done it yet.
Do you think this plane would fly well with a 3S battery?
Could you tell me to say what is the weight of the plane alone?
Brian, two comments, one the backs of propellers are not painted on the tips because it would be distracting to the pilot, they are always flat black. Second nuts are hexagonal not octagonal. I don't mean to be picky but I am.
That makes sense if you're flying full scale, and good point, but with RC, I like my fingers ;)
You are 100% correct about the hexagon shapes...which is crazy that I've gone around for almost 40 years saying this wrong, and never had anyone correct me, which is almost as bad as NOT telling me my FLY IS DOWN! Thanks!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Brian, your fly is down! lol
I have a feeling FMS will discontinue this model soon. I have seen them rebranding the e-flite 1.5 under the FMS brand. They sell it in the “never miss” version in china.
NO - FMS and Efite are in a pissing match, at the moment and have been for some time. The 1.5m Eflite offering is made by FMS for Eflite, and there's a possibility they may not keep making it OR Eflite may not keep ordering it, depending on how things shake out. If you're worried about Discontinuance, get the Eflite 1.5m P-51 ( bprc.me/P51 ) (FWIW not my favorite P-51 btw in the 1.5m - get the 1.2m - it's fantastic!), and you'll be covered. If FMS discontinues this, they will be replacing it with a better version, but to be 100% clear, none of this is "insider information" and just my educated opinion...if it were actually "inside information", I wouldn't be allowed to share it, as we have NDA's on this type of information.
Brian, it seems your little mishap has not affected your Brian Phillips ability. Get well soon. I need more videos!!😢
New to the hobby but I’ve already watched a number of your videos. The control horn solution they give you to work with is just plain butt ugly. I guess it could be fairly easy to fix, but it’s something the manufacturer should have taken care of.
hey brain, i want to play multiplayer in realflight with you. can you host a session sometime so we can fly together. by the way, the red tail is flown by Tuskgee airmen
😀💯👌
Hey everybody I have a question. Does anybody know what's going on with hobby zone. They used to answer the phone in the United States. Now you can only reach people in Hong Kong in the middle of the night
You could barely understand them. I used to always speak with Dan. Did the company get sold or something,?
Drivel cut excess screw off😊
do the 1700mm p-51d mustang
We have it on our list. Have heard it's kinda "weak" on power...similar to the F4U Corsair 1.7m, which is BEAUTIFUL, but slow.
It’s slow but scale i like The maule video PLZ do The maule om floats👍🏻❤️😁
It’s has a black pilot inside the cockpit due to the Tuskegee airmen who flew P 51’s with red tails they were the greatest airman in world war two that’s why it came with a black pilot. Do your history show some respect
