Im really happy with mine. had it almost 4 years now. Thats the first thing i noticed is the under powered nature, but got used to it fast. Beautifull in the blue sky as well. man does it stand out!
I had one and I loved it! You can make it faster and change the pitch with a zip tie, loosen the prop blades and insert a 1 inch peace of Zip tie to increase the pitch then retighten. it really make a big difference.
The YESOUL spin bike has totally flipped my fitness game. My initial pedal was rough, but I dug how I could vibe with my fav classes. I even aimed to hop on daily for 30 days straight, and nailed it! Nowadays, I'm feeling fitter and way more hyped than before.
just maiden mine recently! it’s an old design, released in 2011, but it’s SO MUCH fun to fly. the gigantic prop looks so good in the air it’s under powered because the wing loading is quite high, i had some trouble doing low speed approaches and landings
Outstanding review Jon! Hilariously accurate. I've had this one since it came out sold by HH. It definitely is big and slow. Upgraded the wheels to Robarts and early on FMS sold upgraded metal gear retracts, worked even better. Found the lighter the battery, the better it flew, (no kinding Sherlock 🤪). Likes a HiV SMC 4400 or the old SMC 5300 that was only 680 gr. Thought of upgrading power but never got around to it.
What a beautiful plane to bad fms didnt go all out on this one. I have the eflite 1500mm and its awesome. But when the tail wheel touches down it gets squirly too. But it has the power. Thanks.
Really enjoy your opinion and input on this large warbird, it's one of my favorite 1700mm from FMS, along with their Corsair and tigerCat model's. I agree the P-51 Is slow but scale like and fly's more like an advance trainer.
Awesome follow up review Jon! Ordered a couple days ago. Mine arrives tomorrow! Lol & I ordered a motor with mine I’ll let you know how it works out. On a similar note: I also just swapped a 650kv motor into its little brother the 1400 fms p51 last night. Waiting for good weather to maiden. This is the same motor ran in the p40&T-28 1400 & those two have plenty of power and fly excellent on 4s as your reviews have shown, so cross my fingers 🤞🏽
Thank you for your honest review I bought the first version It was very underpowered and there was a plastic landing gear So it broke almost envery landigs The foam was very fragile too Very disappointed for the price
I have the 1700mm corsair and it was overheating the batteries because it was overproped so bad. Put a 8s esc and 8s battery and it will go vertical on takeoff and everything runs cool now. Might upgrade the Mustang.
A thoroughly entertaining review- everything from tweetie bird to the most infamous intro on YT, to toddler disciplining pet P51s 😊 Do you have any motor upgrade suggestions for this plane, if someone wanted a 1700mm project plane? Stuff a Draco 2.0m power system in it? Just curious.
Tweetie sure didn't want to stop singing. Or crash landing. But hey, it's all in fun. We're unfortunately the last people who would know what motor to upgrade it to - sincerely hoping someone in the comments has an idea, because the 1700mm Corsair coming up suffers from the same lack of thrust.
@@TwoBrosRC I've recently been testing powertrain options for my Maule- which experienced an unfortunate encounter with a dilapidated basketball hoop (which should be removed-but its not mine, soo) at low speed. Resulting in a violent nose dive. All. My. Fault. But, every crash is an opportunity. Been shopping for Draco noobs' victims, hoping to find a motor and possibly that sweet 100amp Avian, from someone fed-up (and unknowledgeable)enough to let theirs go cheap 😂
Nice review and very interesting ( like always) of this great plane; do you have any tips or recommandation, to fix the underpower? maybe another motor? thanks
I need advice and help please. I am new to rc planes but I started learning about a month or so ago with a carbon cub s2 rtf and the stock radio it came with and now I have progressed to flying in expert mode and can do some basic loops and rolls. I recently picked up a turbo timber evo 1.5m and made the mistake of trusting what I read on the internet that learning a radiomaster tx16s with edge tx would not be that bad (big mistake) so for the price I figured it would be perfect and I picked one up and hell I even managed to program and setup the timber with it. To me it just felt like a chore and just the thought of programming and setting up the next plane makes me dread it ahead of time so I have decided to sell it and move to spektrum because from what I have seen spektrum is much much easier to program and setup. Now here is where I need advice and help because I have narrowed it down between the ix14 or nx10 but I am leaning heavily towards the ix14 because of the touch screen and the fact that I don't fancy the idea of that scroll wheel for the amount of settings there are to be adjusted and setup. The other major fact is that to me a really nice radio is a long term investment and you get what you pay for so I just wanted to kinda see if it's worth it to spend the extra now or go cheaper and then have to buy again and upgrade later because planes are needing more and more channels these days. Very sorry for the super long comment but was trying to cram as much info as possible for this

I am wondering why FMS still use this kind of wheels. I have the same plastic wheels in a skytrainer 182 and i find them the only bad think of this agile model!
@@TwoBrosRC Maybe but how big can it be the cost for a wheel? Personally cost wise i cannot believe that we talk for more than a dollar or two for much better quality. Anyway it is what it is but it is pity to make worst the customer experience of a very nice model because of this tiny thing!
It just flies in scale. Put here real sound of Merlin and you will notice that speed is just accurate. You can also change the propeller to 2 blades 19x12.
@@henryairconcepts2999 I'm talking about movie post production and adding real sound to movie. Sound systems are crap, in flight you can here nothing. 😁 You are right, people have different preferences. I prefer flight in scale. Most of planes on the marked in my opinion are to heavy and to fast for their size. Moreover you think that they are slow because they are silent. Brian Phillips fitness challenge! Hilarious!!!
@ 2:54 - AMAZING ;) Looks like the P-51 1.7m, like me, could use a few workout sessions - LOL!!! Good review, Jon!

Hahahhaha that Brian segment, genius!

Keep fighting the good fight on those hard plastic wheels Jon!! Hopefully the companies will get the msg! 👏👏🙌🙌
Underpowered RC planes can be quite fun, since you can't just "throttle out of every situation". It requires more forward-looking flying style.
I hope they come out with a upgraded version . I think its like 10yrs old, needs a refresh
Yeah, definitely needs some improvements for sure.

Just one of quite a few FMS warbirds that are way overdue for some improvements! 2011 design and tech is less impressive in 2024!
I disconnected the rear retract from the board. i just leave it open
Why? The retract isn't the issue, the problem is the harness that the steering can pop loose from.
If the tires aren't good change em, same with the motor, put a bigger one on it same with the prop.
That's not really the point of a review though, is it?
The 1.5m looks like a better option imo.. Im kinda over warbirds :(
Underpowered? It actually looks realistic for the scale. Some I've seen look like a piston aircraft going 800 knots. But I'm new to this.
Nice singing bird😂
🐦
That tail steering wheel system is so shitty on grass runway. I broke that often on other FMS planes. FMS needs to learn from Freewing
You're definitely not wrong.
Send it back to the manufacture in China and tell them. To install a more powerful electric Merlin engine, and pneumatic rubber tires!
Yeah, that's not how it works.
So. Underpowered and bad wheels. Pretty easy to fix. How would the body perform if you replaced these.
No idea, we haven't done the fixes for it.
