Months ago, when I first saw the recall, I was having problems with my American Compact not holding on the last round.
I sent it in (the entire gun because that's what they told me to do), it was just a magazine spring problem. They replaced that, then all the stuff they listed on yours. Absolutely zero problems since I've gotten it back.
And I think it looks so much better with the black barrel.
The Ruger American Compact 9mm is the best gun I've ever shot.
I have a full size Pro model that I bought when they first came out. I've only put about 300 or so rounds through it, but I've been a bit concerned ever since the recall came out. I was like you in that I wondered how Ruger would respond if I sent the gun in even though it was at such a low round count and didn't show any signs of excessive wear. After seeing this vid a few weeks ago, I decided to go ahead and sign up for the recall. Ruger sent me the box with prepaid shipping label within 3 days, and I sent the upper assembly in to them. Almost exactly one week later the parts were back in my hands. Ruger replaced the barrel with the new black one and a couple of other minor parts. I have not yet had a chance to test it out, but I am very impressed with Ruger's customer service so far.
Ruger has excellent Customer Service. I am really suspecting our issues with this one were "Tolerance Stacking" where a few parts were at the extremes of their specs but still within tolerance individually but added up to an overall system that was out of tolerance.
Thanks for the video, never knew about the recall so I'll have to check it out.
What's funny is I live in Phoenix and could drive up to Prescott and swap things out but their security restrictions won't allow it.
I would really like to see Ruger re-engineer this gun full & compact. I have sold all my older Ruger pistols because they are lacking in innovation these days IMO. It would be nice to see a new Gen 2 of this pistol with a modular system and some overall cosmetic upgrades, red dot optic cuts, threaded barrel, etc.
Yesss!!!! All the above!!! I wanna see a Gen 2 of this with everything you mentioned and night sights. I put some go glow paint on my sights. Its not bad 🤷🏿♂️
Me too. They came out with a new model. I think its all the same except its grey. They also came out with a compitition model which they shouldve made to hold more rounds but they didn't. Only complaint i got is i wish the trigger was a lil better. More than anything a shorter reset for faster follow up shots
I've had a couple of problems with Rugers. First was a model 8301 22LR bolt action rifle, which wouldn't eject initially. (Basically it was a single shot rifle until they fixed it). Since then it's been flawless, and has very good accuracy at 50 and 100 yards. Then I had some hang ups with an LC-9, which they fixed pretty fast. They suggested I change the type of lubrication I was using, and I had no further problems. Quality company!!
So here is my problem with Ruger ... bought an SR22 (Failure to fire) ... they were great, replaced the barrel. So impressed with Customer service I buy a second Ruger (American Compact) ... after 250 rounds the barrel blueing is coming off. The Cerekote is all scraped on the inside side (i have the grey model). It seems like the specs are off and the barrel is chewing up the underside of the slide. So tomorrow I am sending the top back to Ruger. Great ... They have the best customer service ever, but on the other side of the coin I have two defective Rugers right out of the box!
Mind you only the 9mm with certain cereal numbers are effected. The .45 acp versions don't have this issue. It's really a small amount with the possible problem that might happen around 10,000 rounds. That's a lot of rounds but I would like to see a gen 2
Ruger is a great company and while at the moment I don't own one I woudn't hesitate to buy one.
Thanks. We have both the full & compact. The first release of both. We are extremely happy with both. The compact is an adult daughter's edc. We will likely send them in soon. Appreciate the great perspective.
I have sent complete pistols back with magazine's. I had no issues. Matter of fact I was told to send everything back
I would get rid of it. I went through the same issue with my Xds. When I got mine back from recall it was never the same. Take care
If you don't mind, can I ask, what was the recall about with your xds?
Good shooting. I am still struggling with shooting lower left and need to work on my grip.
Thank you. One thing to look for is how much of your trigger finger is on the trigger. Try to use just the pad of your finger (first segment) rather then the joint or the second segment. The other thing that helps is focus on your sights to the point your mind is not paying attention to the trigger pull, that will help prevent you from pushing down as you pull the trigger (Anticipating Recoil).
Im literally waiting on my right now. I sent mine last week and Ruger received it last Friday. Hopefully I get it back today. I can't wait to shoot it. I think the black barrel looks better anyway. Hopefully i don't experience these issues, but if i do 💔
One good thing about the recall, my pistol came back with a black barrel. It looks better now.
I believe the recall with the recoil spring, is that is was weak. mine on my personal gun, sprung over the lip that holds it in place so it remains captured, and fired my gun on its own. At no more than 500 rounds through the gun.
I just got a ruger American 9mm compact today, disassembled it to clean all the gunk out it came shipped with and my recoil spring popped over the retention cap on it! Bought an upgraded version to swap it out
I dont own one but thanks for the information.
My problem was similar, although it was on an LCP model. But I had to send it back twice in order to get the problem fixed. The second time they just replaced the whole slide assembly. I've sold it since then So I don't know if it's still malfunctioning or if it's fine.
Thanks for the information. Let us know what happens with the ejection problem. Overall I Did not realize Ruger had such a nice recall program. Some companies definitely try your patience. Have a great day.
Thank you. We will definitely do a follow up when we get it back again.
I like Ruger.
Unfortunately at this point you know in your heart you can never trust this pistol again. Once a pistol has functioning problems. It seems it just never goes away. The tolerances of all the parts just don’t work well together.
I just perchased a used Ruger American full. The original receipt was I the owners manual. It was new 3 years ago and I will be looking into the recall most definitely! I notice the 'safety' in the trigger seems a little 'catchy'. The gun looks like it's been shot a lot. Is the trigger a bit of a wear item with this model? I have not taken it to the range yet, I do like the way this piece fits and feels when the right back strap is on it. The price was right and I would do what it takes to get this one up to snuff.
Just subbed your channel. Very informative!!👍👍😎😆
Thank you. That is not normally a wear item but body oils, dust and lint can get into it and make it hang up. If it does not snap back reliably when you take your finger off it then you would want to address that before carrying it as it is part of the drop-safety. It can usually be cleaned with spray cleaner (messy so do it outside) to get the nasties out of it.
I just got my Ruger American compact .45 today. Havent even fired it yet. After i chamber the 1st round, when i try to eject it, it jams trying to extract or the 2nd round won't fully chamber. Pretty disappointed to say the least.
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your experience. Mine has a silver barrel. Still brand new. Never fired. So tmrw I’ll pull it out of the safe and see what comes up on the Ruger site. (Been to busy making rifle videos to shoot it )
Side question:
Do you know if I can find a threaded barrel for the RAC 9mm?
Just subbed.
Charlie Mike!
Thank you. I am hoping our experience with the recall on this was an exception case, others have not had issues with that process.
Just got one today. Only got 2 mags, and one of them wont lockup the slide if you pull it back. Also when I did a round check by pulling the slide back just a little it didn't go back into battery and I had to push the slide forward just a little. Definitely shouldn't do that. Also makes a little wird noise when you shake it up and down a little. If you pull the trigger it stops than if you rack the slide it makes the noise again. So far definitely not very impressed with this.
Were you ever able to diagnose the issue with the misfeed? If so, how did you resolve it?
have not seen your update...... Did Ruger fix the problem for you?
Not entirely but it was working more reliably but not as well as before the recall. The update video is here: th-cam.com/video/jfITab_7lD4/w-d-xo.html
Their FCU is genius. And it's a huge huge instance of dropping the ball that they arent doing anything with it..
Is it only the compact version. I got the full size version and have never had a hiccup after at least 1000 rounds
🇺🇸RUGER MADE IN USA🇺🇸🔝
Did you ever figure out what was wrong with it? Mine has done this since day one at least three per magazine. And I have not sent it in yet
We ended up trading it in as we did not want to deal with continuing to mess with it.
@@HammerStriker That’s too bad the gun feels great and it’s pretty accurate it’s too bad they couldn’t get it figured out
Hey I'm a newbie to guns. I've seen a few of your other videos and they were really helpful, so thank you!! I have a question, though I just cleaned my Springfield xdm 9mm compact for the 1st time a few days ago. Days after cleaning, I noticed there was a orange brownish color inside where the barrel is, and I haven't shot it yet so is that normal?
it is not uncommon for the first cleaning to find some orange/yellow residue as the protectant that is used for storage/transit will often be an odd color. The barrel is one of the places you will often notice a lot of it..
@@HammerStriker thanks so much
not for the full size AND compact size?
I posted a similar video on my RAPc. I noticed that on yours they replaced the striker rebound spring which they did not replace on mine. Wonder if I should call Ruger and ask about that? Also I remember that the feed ramp on the original barrel was highly polished. When I received the newer black one it was left matte, almost unfinished. I guess that's how they all are now. Have you noticed any significant changes in shooting since it's been back a second time? Mine's starting to exhibit those same extraction issues.
It was no more reliable upon it's return - it has "Gone to pursue other opportunities"
Ruger seems to respond to safety issues very quickly, Anything else and you might as well just cut your losses and buy another gun.
I just bought one after doing no research my American compact wont Fire off the last round.
Did it fail with different ammo or the same was used ?
Yes, we used a variety of ammo and it malfunctioned. The ammo it first failed on was something it worked perfectly with before the recall.
"ruger puts out a lot of recalls".. one : no they dont.. ":two: they are a responsible manufacturers.. unlike sig sauer that makes guns that cap you on the leg if you bump it getting out of the car.. and call it " voluntary upgrads😂😂 gtfo..... Thanks ruger for actually giving a damn about your end users
Any update on the extraction issue?
The gun came back on Thursday and we will be trying it out this weekend and publishing an update. They did change a couple of parts, so we shall see...
I have a Ruger American Compact 45 ACP. I'm having issues when loading a round to the chamber. I changed the ammo to verify and I'm still having trouble. Anyone ever had the same problem?
We had a similar issue with this 9mm. I would contact Ruger, they have excellent Customer Service.
I have the the gray and black version and mine works flawless not much recoil either
