I bought one as soon as they cake out and have not regretted it once. I'll never understand why more people don't talk about this gun. Everyone that shoots mine loves it immediately.

Just like everything else, people tend to gravitate towards what everyone else likes. Instead of having their own opinions

It may be that it is a hell of a gun and I think most people with there own opinions will love it Ruger makes a great pistol and at a great price. The security 9 is a great gun also the security9 has a saftey that needs to be pushed up from the rear thst way you cannot accidentally engage it t but it us super easy to take off while you shooter it

This is possibly the most underrated compact firearm since it's realise in 2018. 9mm or .45 acp this gun is excellent

Got mine 3 weeks ago and love it,dont wanna edc cause the weight but I love it.
And not that it's bad but if you're use to a sheild or one of my favs a walther ccpm2 it's a bull.
Sr40c was my dream pistol and I also acquired it 2 days ago.
It weighs about 25 percent less than the american.
May have a few small windows milled in the slide on my american.

@@darknature79 I agree. The American is my home defense pistol now. I work at gun store and standing for 8hrs with the American starts to weigh on the hip a lot. It's very noticeable. My EDC now is the Beretta APX Centurion/G43x. But that's a good idea to mill the slide for the American like what Ruger did when the cam out with the competition version of the American. Let me know how that turns out if you decide to do that ✌

I got the new barrel and Ruger replaced it extremely quick. And it looks so good with the black barrel.

Very underrated pistol. I chose the American over the security 9 because the build quality was better. The American has a better finish, steel chassis system, ambi controls, replaceable backstraps and was only $10 more. It also has a metal trigger and a nice plastic case. The drop safe system is like the one on the Steyr M9A1. The design was modeled after the military's handgun trials.

I have been very intrigued by this firearm. I'm likely going to pick this up soon. I've never had a bad experience with Ruger.

I have this gun, and it shoots great, it's really accurate for me. After about 400rds, and about the same amount of dry firing at home with a laser, the trigger now pulls at 5lbs on my Lyman... The trigger pull started at 6lbs out of the box. The first day at the range, I put 3 mags thought it before I sent it in to Ruger for the recall work. It came back with the black barrel, and turnover time was pretty quick. This gun doesn't seem to be very popular, but when I let people shoot it, they tend to like it too. I like the Novak sights, but I want to swap them for night sights. This gun is a little heavier than most compacts, but I think it's easier to shoot, because of that extra weight. At first, the trigger had a tendency to hang up a little, and the left side mag release didn't seem to release the mag as easily as the right button, but now that it's well broken in, it's smooth and good to go. I use the small back strap, with a Talon grip. This gun is a really good deal for under $400, I like it.

great shooting pistol; that IMO will stand the test of time. super reliable and built like a tank.would be curious to see how this stacks up to the P10S, VP9sk, & Walther PPQsc

We are more than impressed with our Americans. Full size and compact. Both are favorites of the whole family on range days. One of my daughters chose the compact for her etc & pp gun. Around 1500 rounds between the 2. The only thing I would like to see is a shorter reset. But they have as good of a trigger as most striker fired poly guns today. Good review.

Thank you for the solid review, I'm a tight wad with my money but I've wanted this gun sense I first saw it and got a chance to test fire some rounds through it. The security 9 fired extremely well in my hand but so did the american and it has all those little options I love, especially the changeable grip options.
P.s. thanks for the barrow info, I'll keep that in mind when I go looking soon.

    Hi HS,
I have both Security 9's, full & compact sizes. The safety has a unique design to eliminate fears that it will accidentally engage at a critical time. It can ONLY be engaged by changing your grip from the firing hand hold & pressing upwards on the rear end (striker end) or tip of the safety lever. This prevents accidentally engaging the safety by brushing the lever upwards with your thumb unintentionally. The safety can be disengaged at any time by thumb brushing the lever downwards with your thumb with any hand hold like a 1911 safety. As a pro engr I consider it to be a brilliantly designed safety. Unobjectionable (but I like safeties). This is why (I believe) it is not offered in a PRO model. Possibly, this was your difficulty or possibly they were defective? Hope you found this to be helpful. P.S. the Amer Cmpt is too heavy. It's a BRICK, but rugged as a tank.
Best Regards from Phx, Az. 👍😋🇺🇸

Ruger dropped the ball on the sleve for these, lose and wobble with a gap of about 2.5 mm which is crazy.
That's my only real complaint about the american compact.

I have a Ruger American compact. How did you adjust the rear sight and what tools did you use? I'm shooting slightly to the left when I'm at the range. I adjust my grip and i can hit dead on. Is it possible to do a short video? No one else has one on the rear sight adjustment.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It comes with an allen wrench in the box that you use to loosen the allen bolt in the center of the site then you can slide it back and forth. Loosen just enough that you can barely move it - get it where you want then tighten it back up. Make sure it is tight if you fire a test round or it will move significantly.

My apologies, I accidentally gave you incorrect information. The one that comes with it will not work, I had forgotten I had fixed this at the range with the tools in my range bag. The one for the grip is a Torx, the sight uses a regular hex wrench. The one I used was a 5/64 though it didn't fit as snug as I would have liked it did work.

    • @HammerStriker

We usually shoot between 10 and 15 yards (usually around 12) when filming so we can keep the gun and target both in focus.

I love that ruger is an American brand that sells good value guns at an affordable price. Sadly I think I’m done with ruger semi auto handguns as I’ve had problems with a few models. Just my bad luck that I got lemons I guess, but it is what it is. I know there’s plenty happy ruger owners who have the exact opposite ownership experience as me. I’m still open to maybe getting a big bore ruger revolver, but definitely not anymore of their semi autos.

I’ve had similar experiences with Ruger. Had this Ruger American Compact and the 12 rd. Mags have issues where the spring is weak and eventually stops locking the slide back. Ruger is aware of this and swap out mags but after 2 mag swaps, I got rid of it. Also had issues with a GP revolver. Sad as I’m a big Ruger fan but won’t be buying any guns from them until they get their QC back in control.

I don't believe they are. I shot a number of SR9 that family and friends had. In 2014 I decided to replace a G23 with an SR40 Compact but ended up getting the M&P40c over the Ruger. I am a lover of the Ruger brand....so that is a big deal. When the Sec.9 came out I took my daughter to the gun shop to have her get her first ccw. She was unimpressed with it after shooting the American & handling SR9. IMO the American is the best of the lot by a good bit. Appreciate your question.
