I have been there and visited up and down. Beautiful and interesting place. A portrait of an important lady on the wall downstairs made my friends call me “Milady” for the rest of our trip. I cherish the place and would love to go back one day.
I've been trying to find out more about my Family name, McConaughey. I know my personal family ancestors came to America after the revolutionary war in 1785.
I simply loved this. Thank you Steve, for taking the time and care to make such a lovely video! Your drone shots are spectacular, and make the missing of Scotland over here all the more intense! :)
Absolutely loved this!!!! You do a fantastic job with your videos!! The photography and the history you include is great!! I watch other channels from Scotland and it seems they don’t really know their history. Why wouldn’t they have been to or known about the battlefield at Culloden and the historic significance of that battle. If it were not for Outlander they would not have known...? Thank you for making this history come alive!!
Awwww, thanks so much! Thrilled that you're enjoying my videos...I'm a Historian by trade, so yes, like to be accurate but entertaining at the same time! Appreciate your comments and stay tuned for more...have a lovely day! :)
Outlandish Journeys You are definitely “accurate and entertaining”!! A historian by trade...Scottish history in particular...? You asked for ideas so....My ancestor is Robert the Bruce...how about a video on that history..?? Is that a possibility??
What are "letters of fire and sword"? This history lesson was wonderful, and sad. The doomed cause of the Jacobites is so interesting, as is the beauty of these battle-torn sites. Loved the OUTLANDER connection, and the rascal, Lord Lovat. Thank you for your hard work on this one, your efforts are so appreciated! BTW, I have Clan Macpherson in my background but know very little of their location (for all I know there may be more than one clan with various spellings...)
Thanks so much for your comments...I'm ancestrally Macpherson too, so watch this space for a video on this! ;) Letters of Fire and Sword was a legal instrument used in Scotland, which basically (very basically! Lol!) allowed someone possessing them to attack an enemy or criminal with state backing or lawful permission...
This was an outrageously good video. Only problem is me eyes aren't as sharp and it was hard to read the white fonts against the dark background but other than that, these castles go from awesome to heartbreaking. Great history, great video!
Thanks so much for your lovely comments and so glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for the heads up with the font issues, will swap out for the next upload, appreciate it! Have a lovely weekend and stay tuned for more uploads coming soon! :)
My name is Colin Edward Fraser MacKenzie....and I wept wept when I saw our history.....I have so much more to add. It is my dream to return to Skye and beyond.....Luceo Non Uro!!!
Yeah your just rubbing it in ha ha putting this up😉😉😉😉 two sets of hol cancellations.lockdown rules but hey ho.....can't wait for Scotland to get back open atb👍👍👍
Lol! Hard for me to forget Killiecrankie and Dunkeld as they're only 30 miles away from my home and they're always a main feature on our 5-star historic tours! This video is about MY favourite Clan Mackenzie locations, its not a Jacobite specific video, but if you check our back catalogue, you'll see the '89 featured in other uploads, enjoy! Have a great day! :)
What's your favourite Clan location in Scotland (Mackenzie or otherwise?) Let us know in the comments below!
Castle Eilean Donan is beautiful! On my bucket list if I ever get to Scotland.
Its a lovely place, can't wait to go back later this month! :)

This was very interesting. The ruins of most of the castles was heartbreaking to see. Thank you for your continued videos.

I didn’t know that Donan
Castle had been destroyed and rebuilt. What an undertaking!
Yes, its a nice 'fake' old castle...stunning surrounds! Thanks for tuning in and stay tuned for more! :)

Long live Clan Macpherson! I suspected as much with regards to "letters of...". How handy if you were in the king's good graces...

Lol! Sorry! ;)
the first Jacobite rising was in 1689. You all seem to have forgotten the first. Look up Bonnie Dundee.
