    We have just released a new video on this, talking about the 'three stories' in this case. The captain's statement, the charter person's statement and the eye-witness statement.
    We also talk about how pyrotechnics are used onboard, and disposed of. And how 'shore parties' are organised by yachts for guests.
    Watch it here. th-cam.com/video/qs7PN8J1maA/w-d-xo.html

    I know it is confusing, but in Greece we measure plots by strema (pl. stremata) which is equivalent to 1000sq.m. (10m x 100m). So the torched area in the island of Hydra was 300 stremata (300000sq.m. which is 74 acres)

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      We saw both measurements which is a little confusing. We saw 300k sq metres and 300 acres which is completely different.

    • @panoshountis1516
      @panoshountis1516 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@YachtReport you are correct that some news outlets mention 300 acres but I think they are irresponsibly equating the Greek strema to the internationally used acre. All over the Greek media, no other than the 300 stremata (300k sq.m) is mentioned so I would trust this is the reliable area measurements.

    Thanks for the update, and don't worry about the technical problems - it's the news that is the most important factor. I'm glad to know that there were pyrotechnics found on the beach - that certainly seems to dispel the alternative conclusion that the fire occurred naturally, which of course, can indeed happen. It sounds a little like they thought they were clever enough to not get caught, and maybe not quite so clever after all. Geoff Rohde

    I've sat on the Jacques Cartier bridge in Montreal during a fireworks show being shot off below at La Rhonde. And afterwards there was paper wrappings, shell pieces, and other aerial trash that fell from the sky onto the bridge. So if they were shooting fireworks off, no matter how simple or complex, there would be trash left over on the beach.
    I don't think that the forest went POOF and fire erupted on its own, no??

    5:49 "Neither I nor my guests _asked_ the crew of the yacht or any other third parties to take any actions that _could_ lead to a fire" - Abulgazin (group leader). What a legalese way of saying "I can't say, flat-out "No, we did not start the fire" because that would be factually incorrect", so you have to do the Bill Clinton thing of elongating answers, obfuscating truths and leaving open to interpretation what "actions" that "lead to a fire" really means (and this will differ from person to person, i.e. setting off fireworks on a sandy, open beach may not lead to fire in most reasonable peoples minds, but setting off fireworks on a beach right next to scrub and trees would). He's also only saying that the VIP guests didn't _ask_ anyone else (crew etc) to start a fire (or cause a fire to be started). That doesn't mean the VIP's didn't start the fire themselves, without crew help. It's hardly a rebuttal, indeed, it's subtly incriminating.

    Greece is still not looking good for having made valid arrests. Finding "traces from expended pyrotechnic devices" many days after the event doesn't show that they are related to that event at all without being able to prove no one else was in that area in the intervening time. And, none of anything they said is a basis for arresting or charging the entire crew. At most, a small number of crew may have gone to shore with the guests, but the majority will still have been on the ship manning the bridge, monitoring the engines, in the galley, asleep or off duty in their quarters, etc., etc.

      It'll be hard to prove anything after waiting several days to collect evidence without proof no one else went there. Harder to expect to recover fingerprints or DNA from things that tend to scatter pieces of the (untouched) insides all over. And even harder still to guarantee a match when a chunk of your suspect pool has left to a former SSR that would likely never cooperate or extradite.

    Well, Someone is getting blamed for that fire. What are the responsibilities of a ships crew when their charter goes ashore? And were they ferried by a crew member such as we see on those charter yacht TV shows? It seems there could be a link of responsibility to the captain via actions of his crew he is responsible for. This might not be good even though the crew had nothing to do with it.
