Love that iPod Touch as a controller! I could see this working really well for "run-n-gun" shoots where I'm constantly making adjustments or showing the client some sample shots.

Man you all are some talented people. I have enjoyed watching you guys move up the levels of quality and production. Went to your company site for the first time today. And it is some good stuff. Really love the gear shot. I'm going to have to steal that one over here in NC. Keep up the great work:)

    Great Video! Keep it up.
Small question: What hood would you recommend for the Red 7 inch monitor?
    All the best!

Great video. Some interesting accessory options. I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount my sliding top handle from my last RED on my Epic W withe the VLock IO and RED Bricks without the top of the brick getting in the way. I'll figure it out soon, I guess. Check out our Epic W test footage montage on our channel! Thanks!

Really enjoyed the video. :) Every video I see of someone talking about buying the latest RED camera, there is ALWAYS so many comments from people trying to get the user to justify owning these cameras. It's something that really irritates me. People need to learn that it's their money, it's their decision to upgrade, and if I had the money, I would too. Who wouldn't? People who make these comments are simply jealous that they don't have one themselves and often extremely protentious about their own work, the worst is when they are protentious and have no work to show or very poor quality of work. I know after posting this some people may end up going to look at my channel to see "well lets see your work is probably terrible as well" Yes. yes it is. At least the work on my channel, I haven't uploaded any of my better work - that's beside the point, just a pet hate of mine. Anybody buying a high end camera, do not need to justify it to ANYONE.

Tigger - have you ever shot 4K RAW on even the fastest, "Best" prosumer SSD's - whether to external recorders; or In Camera if they accept? They DROPOUT. They overheat. Etc. Red's mags are proprietary and trustworthy - and well line with SxS media used by Sony and Arri. In regards of what you are talking about - as long as the price is comparable; clients will appreciate and want the latest and greatest. No "dick measuring" contest. This is no different than shooting newer filmstocks; VS old - when they introduced clean 800 speed stocks - why shoot 500? Moving on...

    • @mikehoffman1820

Dude; you seem angry. Writing curses - etc. The line between prosumer and professional is well documented. Glad you had no issues on your Atmos. I had plenty on Blackmagic Cameras overheating in 4K RAW - and dropping frames on the fastest SSD's they recommended. Your attitude seems a bit off if you're working shoots. I wouldn't hire you - until you become a bit less confrontational. The question isn't how fast an SSD can go - without being throttled (I've had em run at 500 too) - it's how fast they can consistently go while performing. Dropouts are an issue. I'm glad you've never run into it. I have with an Atmos on an FS7 raw shoot. I'm glad you feel a line isn't drawn between mid/low level priced gear; and higher end. Speaking from experience - Arri follow focuses will outlast the $1000 Redrock in terms of usability; etc. In my brigade; I have a stockpile of both prosumer and professional - depending on the job; etc. Take care. Hope you work things out a bit and can hold back some of the emotion.

What a wonderful new Camera The Red Epic with Helium 8 K Sensor is ! This is a very nice piece of kit you folks have upgraded to. Then again, @ 49,000.00 US just for the brain alone, it should be ! One does get what one pays for usually. The wonderful thing about the Red cameras is their limitless configuration possibilities, and their obvious extreme flexibility. There's just no shortage of possible setups for any sort of production requirements. I am a little concerned with how fast the Red cameras are updating themselves. I wouldn't want to purchase an 8K Epic, only to have it obseleted by a 10K vista vision sensor camera 9 months later !!

I think the 8K VistaVision RED available now - will be good for the next 5 years. Just like the lifespan on Epic Dragons.

Has the camera changed your business? Do your clients care?
Are you going to get the MoVi Pro for all of the wireless integration and remote FiZ Motors?

I don't know that it has changed our business, but going forward it is a better tool for the work we do. We have a handful of clients who are happy to see that we are now shooting on a Red. Our hope is to continue to grow our clients into those who value the right tools for the job. I may get a Movi Pro down the road. My Ronin is still working well. I have a Redrock microRemote which also works well.

It is an Epic (Ha!) camera, I have been doing alot of research into moving to that platform in the next year or two. Obviously for us professionals it makes a HUGE difference in work flow and the ability to fix things in post. I just think that it is crazy that the difference in the video quality difference between something like an a7s ii (With the correct in camera settings) and Red epic seems negligible to the average viewer. It is a strange time for the industry and cameras in general.

I'll still be hanging onto my FS700, FS5 and A7S for awhile, but when you work with Red footage, you see the improvements in dynamic range, skin tones, resolution and of course RAW workflow. Having shot on Sony for awhile, I can honestly say the Red has many valuable improvements over those cameras. Whether the cost justifies your investment is a whole nother discussion...

COOL STUFF - HOWEVER MR. PRODUCTION GUY, the person shooting you needs to know how to work HIS camera. Get it off auto exposure - and shoot with a dark background, and get your room lighting correct so we can see what is going on. ALSO include actual clips directly to the viewer after demonstrating each segment of such. Yes you'd have to post produce this lesson but it would be so much better. SHOW some clips where you are carrying the camera or configuring it to the max on the tripod. SHOW it like the makers of RED would show it or just borrow some of their demo footage and insert it. You do a nice job of explaining it. So you might as well do it up right. Insert some direct clips of that phone screen and the 7 inch screen if you can. This is great stuff and nice to hear how it works from a real user not just company hype.

You'll notice we haven't uploaded videos for awhile. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of free time to dedicate to making highly polished content for NWDV. I know we could make some really killer content, but you might see only one or two a year. Our hope is to keep uploading content for you guys and hopefully you'll look past any imperfections. Thanks for watching!

I ALWAYS look past the little stuff, but it was rather humorous to watch this nicely stated info of yours while the camera shooting it was on auto exposure and couldn't find the right sweet spot to get rid of screen reflections and changes in exposure due to the light going up and down. Such a nice job as yours needs just a bit more time in setup - ONE OF the reasons I think it's funny is because I've been stuck shooting on the spot without the ability to adjust a darn thing and had no choice but to try and overcome that same problem. To stop and adjust was not an option. I liked it a lot and will look forward to more.
