Sir Leslie Colin Patterson is a fictional character which was created and portrayed by Australian comedian Barry Humphries. Obese, lecherous and offensive, Patterson is Dame Edna Everage's exact opposite: she is female, refined, Protestant and from Melbourne, he is male, uncouth, Roman Catholic and from Sydney.
It's funny how the two men here had such good chemistry and remarkable that they lived almost the identical timeline.

My wife and I were lucky to see Barry’s farewell show.
We were sore from laughter, what an amazing talent.
The ovation went for over 5 minutes and at the end Barry came out onto stage and grown Men including myself shed a tear in his speech

Absolute comedy genius! Miss him in these times.
Barry Humphries was such a genius due to his sharp intelligence. He was a true scholar of comedy, like a lot of the greats. His wit was razor sharp and finely honed over years of study and performance. An absolute legend.
This guy's characters are so good....I'm in tears tonight just watching him......Such a funny guy....
Well missed he will be....thank goodness for TV recordings, at least we are left with some good parts to watch over....RIP Barry...🥹
Arrh Sir Les Patterson was a crack up ,great timing, and very funny ,most probably the most honest Aussie diplomat ever. 😅 Rip Barry Humphries, you will be missed.
He was pure gold. Comedy today is nothing much compared with this. Im so fortunate to have lived through this era.
Anyone who thinks he was non woke is perfectly correct. But funny? He certainly was so we can forgive him. Other so called comics resort to crudities, as did Les in a subtle way, but no one could touch him for humour.

We were lucky to have Sir Les representing Australia in the Yartz. Never was our Yartz held is such high esteem as when Sir Les was spending taxpayer money in Bangkok to promote it at a Cheese and Wine buffet.

There is no comedic character that I can think of -- I'm no expert, but I watch a lot of comedy from America and Britian -- none I can think of even remotely like Sir Les. To use a show-offy Latin term, he is sui generis. When he's on my computer screen I can't stop watching him.
One of my biggest mistakes was not going to see him live at the theatre. I later saw the show on TH-cam and I've never laughed at much for years.
I didn't have the money at the time, but I wish I'd gone.

Barry Humphries was a singular human being. He is the one who really “discovered Australia”. “I was down by Bondi Pier, drinking Tubes of ice cold beer, with a bucket full of prawns upon me knee. When I swallowed the last prawn, I gave a Technicolor yawn, and I Chundered in the old Pacific Sea.”
Yes he helped reinforce the view that a lot of people held onto about Australia and Australians.
