This has got to be one of Sir Les's most complete performances. Absolute comic genius. Sir Les was a truly impressive and horrifically dangerous and hilarious character . He was on fire in this appearance .
Barry Humphries is such an incredible comedy talent! A roller coast of fun and laughs, for sure. May God bless this special individual. We love you Barry!.
I think they each have their individual charm . He also has a lesser known character called Sandy stone not sure if you've seen it ,but that shows a completely different character again
I don’t care how rude or inappropriate people think Sir Les may be, he makes me laugh so much and surely that’s what counts. Barry H you were a Genius. RIP
Barry Humphries as Sir Les Patterson is just about the funniest individual I have ever seen. He is always hilarious & usually even better than that. Absolutely effing fantastic!!!.
What an actor, satirist, artist! For me, Barry Humphries stands among the greats of comedy from the last century and slightly taller than most, no matter from what country they hailed. His comedic genius and intelligent humour were and still are untouchable! The wonderful characters he gave us Dame Edna, Sandy Stone and the irrepressible Aussie, 'you'll be right, get it into ya' - Sir Les Patterson. I think Sir Les is the jewel in the crown, sorry Edna fans, but Sir Les, oh come on, the tears of laughter we all experienced when we watched him talking about Joan Collins on the Mike Willesee show - All these years later I still chuckle about it. And how about the live recording , Sir Les Live & Rampant? The myriad of interviews he did as Sir Les - all gems and all hilarious! Barry Humphries stand up and take a bow, Sir!
To create one comic character was something but to create two characters both hysterically funny now that is quite something. Thanks for all those laughs.
As an American, the Covid 19 crap made me bored...so as a fan and Dame Edna, I accidentally. discovered Sir Les way later than I should have. In the US, we had no idea of this character, because the last truly last controversial comedian we had in the US who wasn't cancelled by 1997 was Sam Kinison. So when I discovered this side of Barry Humphries, I had to know everything about him. What an amazing mind....he should be EVEN MORE FAMOUS than he is. As a musician who can play jazz, his improvisation on the stage is beyond reproach to me. Its not about scales...chords...etc....it is about reaction. I'd literally give anything to have lunch with this man and just listen to him talk.
Your right being in the U.S you don't know things about this. I miss the 80s when people like Grace Jones was popular but some people didn't know what to think of her. She is beautiful IMO but I was a kid at the time but I'd like to meet her. The good ole times are over as far as people and television.
Sadly he'd be cancelled in 5 mins these days for a skit like this . Jackie Weaver was such a good sport in this - actually recognises humour without getting outraged about such offensive behaviour.
Know where your coming from...Pete from London, his timing on burps, dribbles and spits was so accurate, totally drops me in hysterics, shame i missed this growing up,bloody pious catholic double standard fools of parents !
He simply rips the piss out of everything Australian and seems to gloriously happy doing it. Barry Humphries is the best comedic personality our country has ever produced. I saw the value in Sir Les the very first time I saw him. Mr. Humphries has really big, hilarious balls.
Sir Les Should be (our great nation) Australia’s Ambassador to the US. I’d love to see President Donald try to cope with this irresistible force of antipodean culture.
Legend, just a damn legend. That man will die one day and the world will be a crappier place without him but his work will continue to make us laugh for as long as we can see it.
As with most of the best humour, what really makes this so hysterical is that there's a fair element of truth to it. So many powerful and corrupt people
Around the time of this clip, my wife and I went along to the taping of Sir Les's live album, recorded in a room above a pub in north London (courtesy of my muso friends who were on stage with him). A wonderful night's entertainment - and with a few more saucy stories you wouldn't hear on TV...
Jacki Weaver in 2018 and at the age of 71 , is more successful than ever , having appeared in eight films. And been twice nominated for an Academy Award for best support actress .
Brilliant... And Jackie also ....I first remember her from ABC's Bellbird....she was a hot.. married to Roger a journalist I can't remember her character name.. tnx for the memory...
@@suzannegamble9348 Oh, yes there is. An American comic called Foster Brooks was the best. And I don't think that Les Patterson is very funny at all. Dame Edna is his best alter ego by a longshot.
Great to see young Jackie Weaver. Beautiful woman at any stage of her life. But young... so pretty. Good old Les... great stuff now. 2019. OMG how time flies.
RIP Sir Les Patterson. I'll miss you. Funny thing is - he's still an appropriate satire for certain politicians in Australia still to this day, who shall remain unnamed, but we all know who I'm talking about, don't we, ladies and gentlemen? RIP Barry Humphries. Australia, and dare I say the world, has lost one of it's greatest minds.

Back in the late 70's or early 80's I was invited to a fancy dress party. This was in Adelaide South Australia. At the time I had a mate who was a dental technician. I remember him spending a few weeks making up some Sir Les teeth for me, which looked very authentic. On the night of the party I really looked the part. Grey wig the tacky suit, blotchy complextion, fake spew and spillage all down the front of my shirt and tie with the extra curricula in the trousers etcetera. I really looked the part. On the way to the party I was driving my 1960's VW beetle. We stopped at the bottle shop on the way to pick up beer. I popped the carton of ale on the back seet and proceeded to drive out of the pub down a steep driveway. As I approached the T junction at the bottom of the drive the carton of beer begun to slide off the back seat. I proceeded to swing around quickly to save the precious ale when I suddenly found myself fare square up the back end of a stopped car. 💥💥💥 Without thinking I jumped out in full Sir Les garb, ran up to the driver of the damaged vehicle to exchange details. I'll never forget the stunned look I got from this fellow when he saw me. 🤣 I think he thought I was genuinely an old derelict. I don't think he'll forget the night that Sir Less Patterson ran up his arse in a VW bug. We eventually got to the party where we had a ball, as we did back then in the late 70's early 80's. I've always had a soft spot for Sir Les, and I can say I had a small glimpse into his illustrious political world back in the day. ❤RIP Sir Les❤ Blessings and kindest regards David from Australia. 🌏 🙄☝️
RIP big man. Les Patterson made me laugh until I cried, often.
Rest easy Sir Les, you really were something special 🇦🇺

Oh Sir Les lives on. Every Australian knows who I'm referring to.
Always laugh until I have tears when Sir Les fires up.
Barry Humphries is and always will be one of the funniest people ever to grace us with his presence! Absolute legend! You with me?? Lol
I’m with you fella , Bazza is a absolute legend , but Les reconds he’s up himself too much.

Nope. What a sad loss 😢
Yes I agree
A truly talented man
Dame Edna's great but Sir Les is so outrageous it takes it to another level of brilliance 😂😂

Rest In Peace to a national treasure. We will miss you mate.
Dame Edna was huge in the U.K. but as a Brit it was Les that just hurt my chest. A wonderful man and I’m so sad he is gone. Rest well Sir Barry x
loved Edna but Les was my favorite....
Jackie Weaver is just so delightful in this - she was gorgeous....and I've never seen Barry Jones laugh so much!
What a terrific clip!
Absolutely agree! They were both great.
@MusicMadMaurice Sir Les is a marvellous comic creation. And the support cast here - Parkinson, Jackie Weaver and Barry Jones were all brilliant.
Take a look at his movie "Les Patterson saves the world" classic !
There is so little to laugh at in the UK.
For those who didn’t know, Barry Jones is MENSA smart.

Australia would do very well with a leader like this, he beats all the Clowns we have had so far.
lol agreed, but Sir Les was to sane , decent and normal to be a politician .
Barry Humphries

She wasn't actually in Bellbird. You're thinking of Lynette Curran. I used to confuse them too.
as an aussie, this character is much sharper than dame edna, he can be so cutting and very close to the truth absolute brilliance
Everytime things are a little slow he just lets out of a burp and they crack up
Why he ever dropped Sir Les as his main character, baffles me. Out does Dame Edna by miles,, are you hearing me ?
