    I did it! It worked! Thank you!
    The TDP went from 100W stock / 130W overclocked RX480 to 150W stock RX580
    The VRAM still doesn't go above 2250 Mhz and core clock holds only up to 1390 instead the 1410 I was getting with RX480 bios but I'm getting higher unigine benchmark score :)

      It worked for a week. It was fine at first but than I started getting freezes and even after modifying the bios and underclocking a bit I still couldn't get stability under gaming load or even watching youtube some times so I flashed it back. I will try it again once I get some free time to tinker with it, its just that it froze a few times in the same day while I was working and the simplest thing was to flash it back :D

    I would suggest you remove all AMD Radeon drivers through DDU utility before flashing the BIOS itself. Once you successfully flashed your BIOS, only then you install the drivers. This is to ensure fresh detection of your new GPU (well that is what the AMD drivers will treat it because your hardware ID is now different from the previous BIOS) . I have done this trick in the past with R9 290 to R9 390, and not removing all drivers prior to flashing new BIOS can cause instabilities in games.

    Still using an Asus RX480 4GB model, for 1080P gaming and it still kicks ass. Now I don't play super demanding games (Im old!), Wow, Solasta, PIllars, Frostpunk, FFXIV, Surviving mars, etc... So if you are not into the latest and greatest FPS these things work great! and they also don't serve as additional heating for your home, or jack up your utility bill like some of the newest cards do. Avoiding the circuit breaker poping RTX 4000 series like the plague. Sorry my thread-ripper sucks enough power that I don't want or need one of those.

    Did a very similar thing to help make my Vega 56 perform just like (and according to multiple benchmarks I've done), and do better, than a Stock vega 64. A "$200" performance difference crushed by a $0 mod. Also glad that with the Vega 64 bios, I can get my card past 1600Mhz with a core voltage of 1030mv, which is excellent, I could go lower, but I'm content.
    (I know the opinion on Vega before anyone questions WHY I'm running one, it was just part of a pet project I planned back in January)

    Everything you said made a whole lot of sense no matter what you change in any PC you have to take in consideration anything can go wrong essentially graphics card is its own computer but it needs a computer to run and any change to the programming will make it run differently that's why you always want to back up your stuff a graphics card is essentially just another board with another chip that you attach to your main board so totally makes sense you can change that programming one thing you always want to take in consideration to is those gpus are emulated before they put them on the die so really each gpus it's essentially software but every single component has some kind of software to support it now that's why you can never use the full entire space of any hard drive but one thing I want to do is stress about when doing such programming always do your research and have plenty of fans or a decent cooling solution so thank you very much

    Owner and yes XFX binned chips Still smoke my zotac 1060 6gb
    Tried both in my workstation
    Benchmarks dont lie...
    So I tried my dudes msi rx580 8gb
    Funny enough the XFX actually beat it in 4 of 5 benchmarks. Usually only by a few frames. BUT if you have A rx480 black edition from XFX you should know it avg only 10 frames less than a 1070 card I borrowed. So For the time being I would say wait a while to upgrade cause it over clocks nicely...ps make sure your PSU is atleast 600w-800w it does suck power like crazy when overclocking.

      its overwriting the original so the presets won't mean anything anymore. once you flashed the card successfully I wouldn't fuck with it anymore or you might have brick it or have to reflash at the very least. I also have this card and in all honesty it SUCKS for overclocking.

      So funny thing, with my crossfire Fury setup, the slow card actually overclocks itself to the faster card... I have not idea why. Also weird thing, I've ran them at DIFFERENT speeds in crossfire! And it was working fine. This was verified with MSI afterburner, GPU-Z, HW Monitor, AMD Wattman... Game performance it looked like everything was fine without stutters or glitches. How this worked, I don't know. But I do know the slow card will usually overclock itself to the fast card (which could be annoying it doesn't ask first). I think the allowing of different speeds was a sort of glitch since you have to do a particular order of steps for it to happen, and manual overclocking afterwards will set them both to the same. But like an AMD APU paired with an AMD GPU, you don't need the same speeds as far as I'm aware.

      @dgaming9791 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SkeletalForce : Actually no, I have 2 different RX-480's, one @1338 MHz and the other @1288 MHz and they both run in their respective clock speeds. Not sure how, but I've monitored with both RTSS and GPUz

    • @smoke1659
      @smoke1659 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      IIRC it's totally normal that different clockspeeds work fine. It just gets odd stutters and trouble when the speeds of the two cards are too far away from each other.

    • @UFDTech
      @UFDTech  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Smoke 165 That's true. Similar clocks is the best and sometimes the 480 won't be able to match the 580.

    I remember have done this. It didn't work for me, the best thing is that you are not screwing anything up because of the dual bios function. Btw, my card is a sapphire nitro+, i read a lot of this and the results are very variable. The best 480 suited for a bios flash is the msi gaming x, there is a guy that could even overclock it, i guess is just luck and definitely you have to try it.

    save the bios with winflash & program the bios with polaris bios editor1.66 and "tune" ram timings with one button. if you're running 560\s and have a ram cap in windows, now is a good time to raise that cap to 2200 or so. even tho u'll probably not hit much past 2100

    As my RX480 is starting to show it's age at this point I decided to try and flash my Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC 4GB to a Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ 4GB(non-OC). I've now tried 2 different RX 580 BIOSes and both resulted in serious artefacting. Not sure if it might be due to incompatible drivers? Anyone here who successfully flashed the Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC 4GB into a 580?
