I run a 580 until a year ago. I didn't need to upgrade when I did. At 1080p my 580 never run out of memory or anything. I just got an RX 6700 cheap that was much better. I've since gone to an RX 6800 and that's where I am riding for the next few years unless something super cheap jumps out in front of me. It's going to have to be a deal because I've got Vram now.
I did run ati 7970 GHz edition. It has been rebranded to Radeon 280x, 380x, 470, 570. GCN 1.0-3.0 were good architectures. @@x0vg5hs1 I ran a 7970 and a 280x in crossfire back in the days. Not that it helped much as most games either refused to use the second gpu or the frametimes were all over the place. Still great solid cards that turned out to be quite future proof, if there is any such thing with gaming hardware.

RX 580 user here. The "UEFI to CSM" issue can be fixed through a stock VBIOS flash from the vendor's website. 99% of the cards at launch had seen a VBIOS update barely a week or two after, which seemed to have been targetted towards the aforementioned issue in particular. I have an AORUS Non-XTR model and a VBIOS flash fixed it. I did own the MSI model too at some point, (before it imploded due to being heavily used in mining by the previous seller), and a VBIOS flash fixed it as well.
I actually bought a used XFX RX580 XXX Edition for $89 a month before COVID hit and the prices went up on graphics cards without realizing it to go with a R5 2600x processor. Fast forward years later and I am able to play games like Diablo 4 with zero issues.
Yep. My son and I had basically identical systems to yours. We played fortnight and war zone no problem at all. I've upgrade to 5600ryzen5 and a 6700xt 12gb GPU now. My son still uses his 580 and has 3600r5. We use Linux for a lot of our gaming and only use windows for games that require windows and AMD GPUs just work.
Just completed my pc build this month and I bought this gpu but only the 2048sp because I like the lower power consumption. The performance is great despite it's age and can comfortably play games like Elden ring, Rdr2, and sport games at high fps 1080p

I ran Hogwarts on an RX590 when it first came out and had no issue with running it but there was a game breaking water bug that was tied to pretty much all polaris cards. As far as I know neither the game devs or AMD ever put out a driver or a fix for it. I mostly play MMO's and an RX580/ RX590 will run all of them at 1080P with ease. (new ones like Pax Dei excluded) I will never have a bad thing to say about the RX590 and the RX 580 by extension. It was the card that carried me through the pandemic and the crypto cesspool that came at the same time. Tied into that, there are a lot of mining 580's out there so it's a bit of a lottery on what you will get for budget. If you get one that was treated well it will do it's duty.
Good advice and I completely agree :). I have s 2600x with a Rx570 and even with the handicap of only having 4 gbs of vram, it does surprisingly well. Nice vid!
This card aged like a fine wine. Seriously, AMD did a great job making drivers for Polaris better year after year. It's unfortunate that driver support has ended, but still, considering how cheap these cards are, there's no reason not to pick them up for your budget build.
Pretty much every AMD card ages like fine wine. Friends 1070 died, slapped my old 7970 in his pc until he could buy a GPU and it ran games that even I was shocked by.
just picked up one of these for $45, seller told me the ports were broken but i got a good deal on it because it all works perfectly fine. honestly just wanted something cheap for my home server that could also be used to game if my gf comes over. checked out this vid to see what numbers i should expect from the card, thanks.
I've had and I'm still gaming using my GTX 1060 6GB which I got on day 1 release the moment it came to my local store....Had it for 8 years already, best financial decision I ever made tbh 😂
Replaced my 580 for 7900 xtx recently, but I was very happy with 580 for number of years. Recording with AMD ReLive didn't affect my framerate at all (to the point I'd notice). For $70 or so, it's an absolute steal.
These cards also run Diablo 4 like butter. Sure, no hi-res textures, but apart from that, perfectly servicable. Also the 2024SP variants are identical to RX570 in shader count, but they *can* come with slower memory chips. Research needed. Lastly, GTX1070 and Vega 56 come almost as cheap and are twice as fast in some scenarios.
Sapphire Nitro+ Rx 590 purchased in 2018, still running most games at 60-90 fps on medium to high settings. The main thing it struggles with is high quality shadows and reflection but set those to medium if your game struggles and you will be fine. OC to 1600 or 1650 Mhz, undervolt to 1090mv, custom fan curve, GPU stays at 54-58 C. Even can OC memory from 2100mhz to 2250mhz around 980mv - 1015mv. Power consumption is usually 135w upto about 155w with these settings.
I had a 590 (which is just an overclocked 580) and it served me well for years until the recent optimization crash of the UE5 era when i upgraded to a 3070.
Considering the new cards have clock speeds twice as high, the performance is still decent. Can’t imagine how this card would have performed at 1.9 GHz if it was possible, I would say this arhitecture was legendary! I’ve gotten mine in 2019 for 200€ and it has been enough. Quite a long time 😊
I own a 2048sp model, one thing the lad didn't mention and I would SUGGEST taking into consideration A LOT is the "power connection" of the graphic card. For example, mine has a 6pin, therefore I cannot overvclock it. If you have an 8pin module, you could possibly give it a bump or another at gpu's core freq or perhaps memory freq - Or even both, thats the point. But if so is yours 6 pin, it can be dangerous perhaps at full power. I wouldn't, the gain is minimal though... LEARNING how to set up the game/application is more important than anything. It is a great graphic card, even the 2048sp. I do not regret it at all. But I would have bought a 6600 model instead, as it uses less energy and is certainly better. If you feel like your rx 580 is not good, change your desktop to 1280x720p and try using that resolution. That gpu is A BEAST, and it OVERKILLS at 720p. It can 1080p "medium", but it shines a LOT at a smaller resolution. That would be probably my piece of advice, maybe. Also, you don't need to run everything on ultra, put textures high (it usually takes it well for it's 8gb ram), the rest medium/low (idk, we talking bout NOTHING, swing around, it might even take things with ease at ultra as well) and you will get to understand the sweetspot to obtain an amazing performance. And if you're annoyed that yours is 2048sp, accept it, the performance drop is around 10~13%, usually around 7~14 fps, get your shit done, in most cases it wouldn't change a thing. Be happy instead, this gpu is amazing anyway, and there are "unnoficial" FSR ways to increase it's performance even more. I love to see it thriving... In the end, i'm just a humble man!
i came wo any broadcasting knowledge at all so im still learning, but doesnt mean can be treated unequally, if theyre good and profitable then profitable why the long route
I have the rx590 fatboy and did great when i got it in 2020 upgrading from rx280 to play at 1080 some 1440 games. Now it it is in my back up pc and gaming on evga 2080ti which is amazIng card today. Been wanting to upgrade but to have amazing jump again the card needs to be over a 4070 or 7800xt
Yeah at this point I will wait until 5xxx or new AMD and build a whole new rig for 4k as 2080ti undervolt OC gets me solid 60fps for the non fps games as mainly rts gamer.
Underrated card really. I always picked used RX 580 for cheap build if anyone asking for a draft. RX 580 pack power and if they just playing single player games or emulators, it will more than enough to have decent gaming experience
im using the red devil, and i gotta say this card is stupidly insane, the number of titles you can still play on a decent performance low to mid insane.
Dude thank you ao much people in some countries dont have leverage to buy expensive equipment so they go with lowest possible. I live in a third world country where equipment are really expensive and we are still stuck with 4 gb cards as well
As saturated as the budget tech space is with Polaris GPU recommendations, it's for good reason These are still the absolute cheapest bang for buck cards I can get in my area, with 470s as low as $20 per and 8GB 480s/580s for like $40. As much as I'd like to buy more interesting cards for the budget builds they do, nothing even comes close for that price unless I stumble across the rare unicorn deal. Hope to see the sub $100 (really the sub $50) used market begin to offer newer or more interesting alternatives soon. Some of the 900 series cards are hovering down towards a similar price point which is nice to see. Great video as always! Look forward to whenever/whatever the next one is :)
Remembered that this card is a 1080p beast back then. Still is. Seems graphical tech doesn't advancing as fast as the 2010s. My GTX 570 released in 2010, and 7 years later have been somewhat obsolete thanks to its incapability to properly use DX12 (driver side capability sucks, wouldn't count on it), and low VRAM (though the 2.5GB variant solves this issue). Checking out new games in 2024, even Black Myth Wukong works pretty well on RX 580! Perfect for 1080p60, although it's mostly low settings on modern games. A proper, but still affordable step up for this card are probably RX 5600 XT. Similiar in performance to RTX 2060S while being a lot cheaper (in my area it's around 110$ for the 5600 XT and 150$ for 2060S).
Thanks for the BIOS information. I've been trying to learn what the newer features they have and uh... yea I'll make sure my bios is set up properly. I've bought this card because I'm sick and tired of wanting to upgrade my GTX 1050 which is the same age as the one in the video but with 2GB of Ram. If I had known how important VRam was back than I would never have bought it, Also I didn't realize video cards would still be this outrageous.
for anyone tryna play warzone, you can get between 80-90 fps using the right settings.i get about 80-90 fps and i got a rx580 with a ryzen 5500 and 12 gigs of ram
This baby carried me during the pandemic, prices were crazy back then, and I found a powercolor one at a very reasonable price. i will use to build my niece a basic school computer desktop.
S.A.M. does work with the RX580. It works for the RX570 too. I've had both. The mobo has to be capable. Even if the drivers say that S.A.M is not turned on, if it's turned on in BIOS, it's running.
The motherboard is capable, every other recent AMD GPU that I played around with such as 5700 XT, 6600 XT and RX 6800 all have SAM. Once I install the RX 580 it isn't available, even with resizable bar enabled in the BIOS.
@@RATechYT I used to run a Gigabyte Intel 10th Gen Board. I had the "Above 4G, and Resize Bar setting" in BIOS. With the RX570, and 580, in the Adrenaline drivers, it never said it was Enabled. Always greyed out. But, (from a TH-cam Vid) look in Device Manager/Display Adapter/Properties/Resources. If it's says "Large Memory Range" on top, S.A.M. is Enabled regardless what AMD Adrenaline says. It did it with both cards. I even benched them before and after. After was definitely faster.
My RX580 started crashing since last month. It's indeed a performer but there's just something with AMD GPUs since last year. So many posts in forums about their GPUs crashing with the HUNG error.
I have one of the 2048sp models of the RX580 in my spare PC (paired with a Ryzen 5 1600AF and 16GB of 3200Mhz DDR4). It'd be worth trying the custom drivers for your card as the results I get in Hogwarts Legacy and Spider-Man are almost exactly the same but with a few settings turned up.

i just picked one up for £54 (including postage) to replace my gtx 1050 ti. given the price i got it for, i may be able to make this a free upgrade if i sell the 1050. the speed will be nice, but i'm also very excited to go from 4 to 8gb of vram. i'm hoping to upgrade my modded fallout 4 from the choppy 30-50fps i get rn :)
When I did my RX580 vs GTX 1060 Comparison, the RX580 was a hair faster. Also the extra RAM is certainly a bonus. In the end, the extra heat was not welcome. Also the fan profiles are not what I always used to (depending on brand). Sadly, it is much harder to find a GTX1060 when there are tons of RX580s available.
I had an Nvidia Geforce 770 but at some point it just broke down , couldn't use it. so I had one of my friend recommand me something from facebook marketplace. it was that card. one of the fan actully makes more then usual noise but i just put a blanket on my pc (not fully for it to still breath and not overheat) and that part is fine. I bought my radeon card at *40 CA$* . i still need to actually buy a new pc cause honestly its just overall starting to break down... but in the meantime im glad i bought that card... as far as im aware that card is actually better then what i had.
Wow, man you have perfect selection of hardware for a review) I always return into your channel to make decision when buying old stuff (hello from ryzen 3600 😄, that by the way now in pair with RX580 8Gb) Best wishes to You!
The CSM requirement is definitely not true for all RX 580s. Maybe there's something wrong with the one you tested. My best guess is that it was an ex-mining card and one of the previous owners flashed the VBIOS to one that didn't have UEFI support. You can fix it by finding your RX 580 model (or one close to it) in the TPU VBIOS collection and flash it onto the card.
@@ilikesinging7 that's not what I meant. If you are looking to build a rig specifically focussed on older titles, this would be a great buy. I have one of these as a spare GPU on my shelf, I know they are more than capable 😉
I don´t know your local used market situation but an RX 5500XT is the FAR better choice. It consumes 1/3 less power... is about 10-20% faster Has full driver support etc Got mine for about 75€

The RX580 is the AK-47 of budget cards: cheap, reliable champ of the people that does the basic thing you ask it to do. I think the RX6700 XT will inherit that title next.
Im building a couple budget pcs to sell (xeon mobo cpu ram combos) and am looking for a decent gpu to pair with it. the 580's price tag on ali has definitely increased since last time I got 2 off there. I think the popularity of the 2048 cards boosted their sales and sellers caught on and upped prices. Sad to see, im just looking for 2 cards at around 50-60 each to pair with the xeons. I saw a 1060 6gb for $50 on craigslist and will probably go with that

Still using an RX 580 paired with my 32" HDTV. Tried using an RX 5700XT, but for some reason I kept getting frequent 1 or 2 second audio drops, and the screen overscan would keep failing and only use 95% of the screen, and I would have to keep toggling the HDMI scaler. So I went back to the RX 580, which never had that problem.
5700xt needs 650w or better tier c power supply, low power supply causes weird sound stuff, some radeons the HDMI standard is not compatible, Displayport is more compatible but most TVs dont have displayport
I'd be going from a GTX 650 to this from someone's suggestion. Is this worth it for someone who has absolutely no computer knowledge and does not need much?? I'm not a gamer, just a digital artist.
@@klenpy The RX 580 is a great card, however if you care more about productivity tasks, I'd suggest going for Nvidia. The GTX 1060 6 GB or a 1070 will be a massive uplift over your current GTX 650.
As for today you definitely CAN play the newest and greatest games 😂 just make sure you're not trying to run them on ultra details or so. 1080p is ofc 100% ok but sometimes you need to switch to just high, rarely to the medium ones and ALMOST NEVER to the low settings 😅

at this point in time (mid 2024) i think Rx 580 is done as an interesting GPU... i mean, yea... if you still have one, or want to build a secondary budget build then go for it... But there are so so many better options nowadays, and (most important) more and more newer tittles wont run propperly (i mean games that won't run 1080p 30fps at low, so you'll be forced to 720p since FSR won't save your gpu in every tittle). i'm still using my Rx 580 (4gb version) but i'm more than aware of its limits and i do know for a fact that i'm not playing any 2022 or newer AAA tittle
I've just recently jumped from GTX 730 2GB to RX 580 8GB as well as from i3 4130 to i7 4790, man im having a blast with it on titan fall 2 :DDD, no worries i also upgraded my PSU from 300 watts to 550 watts
I’m starting to build my first pc ever, do you recommend that I get this graphic card? I saw a lot of reviews on it on Amazon and a lot of people are saying good things about it, it costs $150 in my local currency and my budget for the entire pc is $800! Do you think it’s worth it or should aim for a better graphic card? Cause some people also recommend the rtx 3060 from ZOTAC Gaming which goes for $280! But it takes a lot from my budget 😅
Of course the 3060 is a much newer and more powerful card, it would make more sense to go with that one. In fact I'd forget about the RX 580 with your budget. I don't know how much PC parts cost where you live, but given the RTX 3060 costs $280, it looks like the prices are the same as they are in the US. You easily can build yourself a rig with a R5 5600, RTX 3060 12 GB and 32 GB of memory for that amount of money. If your main focus is gaming, I'd even recommend the RX 7600, which is a cheaper and generally faster card, at least without ray tracing.
baking af 74C found out that if you replace the fans with moded one gets quiet and colder from 70 to 57 and if i did undervolt probably will bump at 53 C and good quality thermal paste ofc.
You can buy 5700XTs, and Vega 56 for near the same price. Even GTX 1070s and 1080s are neat the same price, and much faster. The 580 is not a good card, yet somehow it is constantly being revived by budget builder channels as a good option. It’s really not a good option lol
Good thing games these days look good on low preset. However... In some of the more slow pased titles I'd aim for 30fps, higher settings and some type of frame generation. Maybe with lossless scaling app and play with a gamepad instead of mouse and keyboard. That's the cheap mans way to get the most out of older hardware. I think tinkering with weaker hardware to get the most out of it, is even more fun than playing the actual games. And when I get the best settings tweaked in with a locked smooth framerate, the game is sometimes even more enjoyable to play knowing that it shouldn't be possible on such cheap hardware. To me, buying an expensive card and just put the settings to high is considered "cheating". :)
The frame rate in majority of games was already low enough so I wanted to show the best possible results of this card, I think it's clear that by increasing the settings the frame rate is going to drop. But yes, like I said in the end if you're okay with a console like experience you can increase a few settings or maybe even play more modern titles.

They fixed it, or at least modded drivers integrated the new amd driver fixes.
Good advice and I completely agree :). I have s 2600x with a Rx570 and even with the handicap of only having 4 gbs of vram, it does surprisingly well. Nice vid!
Thanks! Good to see you around.
Driver support hasn't ended the card will be receiving security patches if one is available

At Russia rx 580 is one of the most popular and most "meme" card at the same time
😒👍 just like Vodka comrad
just picked up one of these for $45, seller told me the ports were broken but i got a good deal on it because it all works perfectly fine. honestly just wanted something cheap for my home server that could also be used to game if my gf comes over. checked out this vid to see what numbers i should expect from the card, thanks.
I for one like these videos on older video cards and how to get the most out of them. Running rx 570 8gb I got for 30 bucks CAD
Finished Witcher 3 with my RX580! Such a powerhouse GPU! Smooth gaming experience!
Good work as always! Really surprising longevity for a lower midrange card. It is basically a 1080 Ti-light at this point.
In the end, i'm just a humble man!
i came wo any broadcasting knowledge at all so im still learning, but doesnt mean can be treated unequally, if theyre good and profitable then profitable why the long route

can u run r6 on 144 fps on low settings
As saturated as the budget tech space is with Polaris GPU recommendations, it's for good reason
These are still the absolute cheapest bang for buck cards I can get in my area, with 470s as low as $20 per and 8GB 480s/580s for like $40.
Good to see you back brother, been binging your fx vids and gotta say my love and appreciation for the fx processors has really grown

@@Hoprgras If that's the case there is a chance it was enabled when I tested this card.
Polaris GPU's were amazing. I used a RX 470 4GB for five years until I got a RX 6600 last year.

Had an extremely limited time with this card, I'll definitely give Nimez drivers a try in the future.

i just picked one up for £54 (including postage) to replace my gtx 1050 ti. given the price i got it for, i may be able to make this a free upgrade if i sell the 1050. the speed will be nice, but i'm also very excited to go from 4 to 8gb of vram. i'm hoping to upgrade my modded fallout 4 from the choppy 30-50fps i get rn :)
I was impressed by this MSI model thermals wise. I didn't need to increase the fan speed higher than 50%, it wasn't all that audible either.
@@RATechYT Oh wow! Good for you 😊
The CSM requirement is definitely not true for all RX 580s.
Yup, recently learned that it is related to the vBIOS.

So I went back to the RX 580, which never had that problem.
That's unfortunate.
5700xt needs 650w or better tier c power supply, low power supply causes weird sound stuff, some radeons the HDMI standard is not compatible, Displayport is more compatible but most TVs dont have displayport

But there are so so many better options nowadays, and (most important) more and more newer tittles wont run propperly (i mean games that won't run 1080p 30fps at low, so you'll be forced to 720p since FSR won't save your gpu in every tittle).

Vega 56 and 1070 can be found for a similar price. Rx 580 is still a good option if you find a good deal
The only issue ive had woth rx 580s is having to use the DVI port first until drivers are installed to get a signal from hdmi or DP

74°C is a great temperature for a graphics card with a 50% fan speed.
You can buy 5700XTs, and Vega 56 for near the same price. Even GTX 1070s and 1080s are neat the same price, and much faster. The 580 is not a good card, yet somehow it is constantly being revived by budget builder channels as a good option. It’s really not a good option lol
At $60 - it is a great ultra budget option. The cards that you mentioned are at least $20-70 more expensive depending on the card.
its fine, i recommend the cool looking cards tho, three fan Red Dragon Red Devil Asus Strix
Got this one for around 40$ fb marketplace
Does it have ray tracing tech? Can it run games with ray tracing?
No unfortunately. At this price there's nothing that can run ray tracing really, at least at a playable frame rate.
Would make sense if you actually tested some 2024 games, considering the video title.
True, gonna need to update my library with newer titles.
Can relate!
Why everything on low?
I got r7 2700x and rx580 armor msi and playing gow ultra 35 fps 😅
The frame rate in majority of games was already low enough so I wanted to show the best possible results of this card, I think it's clear that by increasing the settings the frame rate is going to drop. But yes, like I said in the end if you're okay with a console like experience you can increase a few settings or maybe even play more modern titles.
