This is how amazingly realistic Musescore 4 Sounds!

- I just want to show off how good muscore 4 sounds (especially for free software!) with this little orchestral piece I made a while back.
There is a few awkward skips in audio (from very soft to loud suddenly) - although that may be because of the sudden mf to f changes - apart from that the intruments sound very realistic in my opinion.

it isn't perfect, but you have to admit its good for free software
For free software, I would claim it as borderline great, especially considering how expensive sample libraries have become.
@@alleyway3215yeah everything I do is done with musesounds nowadays, maybe if I figure out how DAW programs work one day I'll invest in an actual sample library, but I'm genuinely doing perfectly fine right now
@@alleyway3215 Sample libraries have mostly gotten cheaper. Early stuff like VSL's Cube, Spitfire BML and EW Symphonic Orchestra used to cost thousands of dollars, sometimes over 10k. I agree that Muse Sounds are mindblowingly good for free software.
musescore 4 definitely has its issues. It's amazing for being free, but an annoying bug I run into sometimes are notes cutting off randomly in phrases for no reason
Definitely.
Wow. Considering that it's completely free, it does sound impressive! Not as good as a dedicated sample library, but it definitely delivers a great demo.
Most pieces that demonstrate dedicated sample libraries on YT sound less realistic. However, this piece strategically avoids the real test: runs and fast passages.
@@dirtyharry1881I might test that at some point - but from my knowledge I do agree that fast passages (among a few other things) can sound a bit odd at times, although I've never really done many other pieces like this (with the whole orchestral instruments) so it'll be interesting to test it.
@@thelittleowl55 what library/sound are you using is it msbasic one or muse sound
@@ashwat3735 Musesounds. They're great and work best with slower tempo pieces like these. Solo violin is really almost unusable.
Musescore is amazing for free software- MuseScore 4 + MuseSounds really gives Sibelius a run for its money, I love it so much and it's now my go-to for making music.
Loved this excerpt, it went from being pretty/peaceful to heart-rending, excited to see how it continues if you end up adding to the piece ♥
The piece would fit in a misty or snowy scene. Great job, really enjoyed the textures.
Thank you!

@@ashwat3735I used the Muse Sounds Library for all of them i think
Muse score couldn’t be more perfect for adding orchestra instruments in with other layers. At that point it’s impossible to know if it’s fake or not.
Really like this piece, would be interested in hearing more of it
Thanks! It was originally going to be longer but run out of ideas 😅 so I moved on. Maybe in the future I'll revisit it.
It sounds like it would even be able to handle Bantock's "Hebridean Symphony"!
This sounds great, was it inspired by botw/totk perchance? I hear some of that + Skyrimish stuff
Thanks!
Not directly but definitely the genre and soundtrack style is very similar
@@thelittleowl55 that’s cool, well you are very good at it either way!
Pretty sound. Are these the original soundbanks from musescore?
Most of them are from "muse sounds" which are free external musescore sounds banks that you download separately on the official musescore website. So they might as well be original soundbanks considering they are official musescore sounds and free to download from their website
How do you make the crescendos and decrescendos work? And the dynamics to sound as loud as they should? I've stopped using Musesounds because of this reason
What might be the issue with crescendos is you have to click on the one you placed, then 2 little buttons will appear, then you click and hold the right one and drag until the note you want the crescendo to end. If you don't extend the crescendos then they will be very short which usually doesn't sound very nice. It took me a while to figure out that - but if that's not the issue then I'm not too sure sorry.
As with the dynamics if you mean placing a dynamics marking next to a note, f does sound a little too loud or intense for a lot of the instruments so I usually cycle through p, mp and mf because they have a smaller range of dynamics for some reason. One thing to do if you want to get louder dynamics is to open the mixer, because then you can change the volume of all your instruments.
Hope this helps!
You might need to place a dynamic marking first (example: p on 1st bar, then mf on 5th bar). Then you select the range in between those dynamics (bar 1-4). After selecting it, add the crescendo/decrescendo hairpin from the palettes. You can also use the hairpin only, but you usually have to manually set how much velocity is changed. To change the velocity, you select the hairpin and go to the properties section on the left and change the value.
ok thank you all for the help! I fixed the issue by updating my musesounds and it works perfectly now
