Was he on the original? I know he played on many of Warren's songs - and helped produce some too (??). Regardless, it's great that he was able to play here. And maybe produce?
@@SigMendelsson He would have played the lead guitar on the original, and is credited as a producer on the "Enjoy Every Sandwich..." album, along with Jorge Calderón, Brendan O'Brien, Ken Stringfellow, and others.
Another one I've not heard CJB. I'm getting words from my hubby in heaven. He knew all your songs and taught me many. Both guitarists. Married 33 yrs. The big C got em. Way to early to go. Sad. Listening to you makes me feel connected to Heaven. TY.
Warren wrote this song about Jackson. One can just imagine back in the day Jackson was just beating them off w/ a stick. He then complains about what a hassle it is to have all these beautiful girls trying to jump his bones. This is Warren's response.
I've been a fan of both Jackson and Linda for a really long time. Jackson has been my favorite singer/songwriter almost from day 1 when I first heard him on the radio. So usually I'm gonna go with Jackson far above anyone else. But I heard Linda's version first and she always wins on this one. I bet they did make Warren Zevon proud!
Sorry to inform, but Mr Zevon wrote this on account of the complaining of Mr Browne, regarding the abuse received from said “Young Girls”! Jackson is the star or this song!
There is a great audiotape of Jackson, Warren and JD teaching Linda the tune back in 76. She giggles at some hardcore lyrics but boy this tune when Ronstadt belted it out was highly invigorating - she gave it vocal justice.
I would like to address the many, many people who are wondering about the whereabouts of Bonnie Raitt in this video. I recommend that everyone go to the comment one year ago by Mike Johnson , who was the videographer for this video. He gives a detailed explanation of how this recording took place. As of now , this comment is about 50 down, but maybe CountryRock 2U can rearrange the comments for your convenience. I hope this helps and may we all thank Mike Johnson.
Can't believe I never heard this. Half the band I've seen at NAMM, either playong or hanging out. I once changed clothes in Jackson Browne's bathroom. Good memories.
Jackson Browne and the late , great ,Dan Fogelberg were always generous in their usage of other songwriters 'work on stage and on their albums ! That is and was the stamp of two of the finest singer/songwriters of popular song ...Ever !
you're right and of all the great songwriters that Jackson covered, I STILL get chills when I play his version of Danny O'Keefe's "The Road". I'm waiting for him to cover Gordon Lightfoot.
He is not underrated. As the other comment here alludes to, Wachtel is highly rated by the only “fans”who matter: the performers who time and again want him to hold their songs together. As a session and concert musician, Wachtel’s credits are a mile wide and a mile deep. He’s even mentioned by name on a Warren Zevon song.
I Always Loved This Song - I Know Lindas' Version Well - But I Really Like Jacksons' Too, (Bonnie Raitts' Slide🎸 Is UNMISTAKABLE!😁) & I Love Seeing Him In His Studio...This Is Also Where He Let Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble FINALLY Record TEXAS FLOOD!! For FREE!! THANK YOU🙏 JACKSON!!💞 LOVE YOUR MUSIC!🎶
Alison I think that their tracks were laid down separately at different times. I am pretty sure she is playing that awesome slide guitar on this track too, so its a shame we don't get to see her playing too.
Definitely.. I was thinnking why are they not showing Waddy playing slide ...duuhh he'tsbeen playing the Fender the whole .. Bonnie is playing the screamin' slide!
@@like2view I'm the videographer on this session. It was down at Jackson's studio "Groove Masters" in Santa Monica. Bonnie was in Scotland at the time so the track was emailed to her, she did her tracks in a studio over there, emailed her track file back to Jackson and it was added to the ProTools file for final mix back at this studio. That's why she's not in the video.
There should be a law that performers are credited when these vids are posted. Jorge Calderon on bass (and no, he is NOT dead, as a 10-year-old post incorrectly stated), Waddy Wachtel on guitar, Rick Marotta on drums. Songwriter Warren Zevon on an album produced by Jackson Browne. Bonnie Raitt does backing vocals and slide guitar, according to several posts here.
For anyone who is still wondering about the bass player, it's Jorge Calderon who was a good friend of Warren who collaborated with him on a lot of albums. He also produced The Wind and Enjoy Every Sandwich.
You were there? It was amazing for sure--the car-becue in the parking lot was the topper. I was so close I could almost touch him. I think you're right, it was David Lindley.
Jackson actually produced Warren's original version. You can Jackson say "I don't wanna talk about it...." in the middle of the song. Cool song, wicked funny!
So a little Jackson Browne/ Warren Zevon trivia. They were friends, Jackson helped Warren’s career early on and was a big fan. This song is written supposedly about JB, tongue in cheek. Listen to the words and think about Jackson’s songs in the 70’s. Makes sense
I agree about Linda...But I thought Warren Zevon wrote this song. I met Warren briefly while having a drink in the bar area at the Carefree in WPB where he performed later. Lovedhis show but wish he had done the Gorilla song.
The bass player actually co wrote songs with Warren, like Mohammed's Radio. He also produced albums for Warren. His name is Jorge Calderon.Hope that doesn't get him deported.
Good lord. Calderon was NOT dead in 2013 and is NOT dead in 2023, as of my post. Yes, there are plenty of Jorge Calderon obituaries online, but it is a common name.
Read info why we can't see Bonnie Raitt on this video.
I assume some managent contract exclusivity clause. She's there man. Her Little Feat induced slide guitar. Bella Miss Raitt
As attractive as she is I don't need to see her, I can hear her!
@@Gylfi465 I was wondering who was playing slide. David Lindley or Bonnie Raitt? Either way great stuff!
@@axevictim7226 Bonnie Raitt. Vocals and Slide guitar. She's uncredited probably some contract issue at the time. Love this track.
One of the greatest songs ever written....and god damn, Jackson Browne kicks ass on this perfect Zevon song

He’s great just keep him away from kids😅
Great song..... and for me the BEST version ever. The slide guitar is off the charts.
Bonnie Ratte on slide

Between Jackson Brown and Linda Ronstadt doing this song I'm sure it made Warren Zevon proud. Both were excellent covers.
Linda, much better.

Absolutely. And Waddy on guitar for both!…although I love his really Rocked out playing on Linda’s version.
Jorge Calderon asks "You gals ready?" and then pumps out the steadiest bass track ever!
My favorite version of this classic tune

Jackson should know this song as good as anybody! He produced it for Warren's original recording!
Best rendition I've ever heard of this great song. Can't stop playing it - going on three weeks now.
So Good, Waddy and Jackson! Warren is smiling...
Jackson produced Warren's first real studio LP, so I bought it..
He's in great voice on this one!
Makes me love Jackson more than ever. So talented & adorable in this video.
It nice to be humble enough to laugh at yourself...I've always loved this song...
R.I.P. Warren - what a great song you wrote! Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne do excellent versions, but Warren in his live concerts did it best!
no way. Linda took that song to the stratosphere.
Warren's version was always best. He didn't just sing the lyrics, he felt them.
Jackson is just the best and how under rated is Waddy Wactel?

Jackson is great, love this song. Why is Warren Zevon not in the Rock n Roll hall of fame ?
Because he was better than that shower of £%$☆#*. 😂
Zevon does not need the hall of lame. It's a country club and a museum. The fans know better.
