I get your sentiments, but, frankly, from this side of the pond The Hall of Lame is the most vomit-inducing wankfest to leech itself to the RnR product ever, the absolute antithesis of what RnR was about. Sorry, but someone needs to nuke the damn thing. I'm just grateful virtually none of the artists I hold dear would pee on the whole brown-nose farce if it were on fire.
The Rock ns Roll Hall of Fame is supposed to be about musicians who influenced music. Warren was not the most commercially successful, but when you look at the musicians who worked with him, appreciated his talent and supported him, kind of hard to argue that he was not influential. Look at he musical credits on his album Sentimental Hygiene and the tribute album Enjoy Every Sandwich after he died. If that does not qualify him, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is just bullshit
Seeing the title 'Warren Zevon - Poor Poor Pitiful Me...' is more than enough for thousands of us to click on, watch and enjoy SO much. But when he (and his GREAT band) then go on unexpectedly into Bruce's Cadillac Ranch, without even a break, it IMHO turns this into one of THE great music videos ever!! I absolutely love it.
The man was a helluva songwriter and artist. Always a macabre sense of humor that made his music so much fun. Love this guy thru and thru. His music is timeless
I played Lawyers guns and money for my wife who’s like 30 and never listens to classic rock. She said the song was stuck in her head for weeks (in a good way)
I think I was almost 30 when he died. It was a terrible year. Johnny Cash and John Ritter died the same year. It was a kick to the gut for sure. I used to sing Werewolves of London for karaoke. It meant more after I heard he passed. Check out his last song Keep me in your heart.
I saw him do a free / open air show in Waukesha, WI during a multi-night music fest. His opener was some very high energy Irish rock band I had never heard of (and haven't ever again), but then they stayed on to be his backing band. It was so great - he had a similar talent to Neil Young, who can turn from all-out rocker to breathtaking ballad on a dime, and the audience has no choice but to go with him. Waited around afterward to meet him (he was short!) and he was just a down-to-earth, friendly guy. This video definitely captures the same live performance spirit I saw.
jackstraw1968 I wish you could have, too! I saw WZ in 1982 at the Bayou in DC, date of my future (and still) husband. We raised our sons to love them some Zevon!
Saw Warren in a beach bar in Sitges, Spain on the coast of Barcelona in 1976. Saw him again in a small venue called Rosebud in Pittsburgh. He came over to our table after the show and I told him the Spain story. He loved it!! I was seated with the Rock Radio station WDVE. He played this song dedicated to Bill Clinton!!
This really helps when you're down in the mouth and feel miserable. I love his humor. A life insurance. I also love songs like "Werewolves of London", "Reconsider Me", and "Lawyers, Guns and Money" - brilliant stuff!
Warren was so fun, a joy to watch sing. I saw him at Tierra Verde, the southernmost tip of the Pinellas peninsula, south of St. Pete, FL, in 1982 or '83. Can't remember the year but I remember his beautiful spirit, his love for music! May he rest in peace! He's in that huge band in HEAVEN.
While I was fortunate to see WZ live, I missed him at Tierra Verde. I did however see Weather Report & the Pat Metheny Group there. Such an amazing venue! Wonderful memories, thanks.
I get the feeling that when Warren heard the lyric's, "It rained all night the day I left The weather it was dry The sun so hot, I froze to death Susann', don't you cry. In grade school. It stuck, like a fox to chickens, instinctual.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH I WAS AT THE Capitol Theatre that night great memories I can't thank you enough THE Capitol Theatre is long gone however thanks to people like you Warren will never be forgotten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou TH-cam for giving me Warren Zevon's music. Radio and television stations here in Australia ignored Warren's brilliance ... However, thanks to TH-cam I have discovered all his fantastic music (and sense of humour), like everybody, I thought 'Werewolves of London' was a 'one hit wonder', how wrong was I?
Warren was awesome. The good old days of the Capitol Theater and affordable concerts. I grew up in Lyndhurst NJ a hop skip and jump from the Capitol Theater. Also, good old Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City. Now, you need a loan to get a cheap nosebleed seat anywhere in the New York area. Or out on a lawn watching on a screen at PNC. Might as well watch at home. Besides the people holding their fucking phones up in front of you the whole time or screaming DURING the music so you can't hear it. The Beatles stopped touring and became a studio band because they couldn't hear themselves play.
@@bertvervoort7976 Really? Never knew this. Interesting. They both had fathers with drinking problems and Bruce went for abstinence while Warren went for embracing it and running with it!

What a GREAT jam band with Zevon orchestrating the whole thing from the piano. Powerful voice and piano creates a rocking vibe that really gets the crowd going!
I first heard of Warren Zevon in London 9late 70s) Werewolf of London was the first track I heard. Different and bloody good. A mate and I went to the Hammersmith Odeon, Hammersmith London. His piano player was ill so he did the whole concert by himself. What I was surprised about was that the majority of the audience appeared to be late teens early 20s. Another great memory from my years in Europe.
Ooh the added bonus of Cadillac Ranch!!! I love Warren Zevon beyond words, I miss him so much!!! He’s the best! My favorite song of his, besides the ever fantastic Werewolves of London, is Desperadoes Under The Eaves, I was born in Hollywood, so of course, plus it’s the most incredible song with the best lyrics ever!!

After the concert I asked if I could get a piece of the radio station khol banner along the stage and they were like yes. I brought that banner with me through out the night to local bars. Me and my friend opened our first automotive shop and I put up that banner proudly and often would read the comments and remember those faces of great people. Before Warren left the stage he said "My rides here" as he was speaking literally. Hej speaks of his dealing with death on a David Letterman and how a dentist actually told him to see a doctor. His second to last album was called Life will kill you. RIP Warren 👍💜

We always knew that Warren Zevon didn’t take himself with deadly seriousness. Now we see that his band didn’t either. They cover Springsteen’s “Cadillac Ranch” and during the second guitar solo, the bass player and rhythm guitarist do the back-and-forth horse move that the E Street Band did at the same point in the song. I've always said his songwriting was psychotic and that's why I love it so much.
The term "macabre" is perfect to describe Warren's sensibility. May he RIP!

saw him twice
Has to be the best ever
He didn't really need a band... The way he was when I got to see him.

The Hunter S. Thompson of Rock and Roll.
Warren Zevon is a legend. He never got the level of popular recognition he deserved, but but real musicians know how great he was.

Warren Zevon, i will never forget you.
cadillac ranch was only 2 years old when this took place. and its not like it was a huge hit single for bruce. so damn cool that zevon covered this.

And the Cars opened for Cheap Trick a few years earlier.
