  • R-Mode for the GT-R that is a true R-Mode! Kevin McGee and I have been making a lot of progress with the TCM software via ECUtek for the R35 GT-R. Many nice new features we now include with our GR6 builds to support our people but the new thing we created called 'True R-Mode' is something which really stands out as a big change for this car. In the video below I try to explain and show you the many features we now can help with on the trans side to get the most out of your investment. Our R-Mode feature is not for everyone and you will need some balls for this one. I start talking about our new R-Mode feature at 2:40.
    .
    Other features include:
    *Higher Auto-Mode UP Shifts
*1st gear is engaged earlier while moving so you're not stuck in 2nd at a stop sign
*Smoother clutch engagement- especially on the 1-2 shift
*Higher RPM UP Shifts at WOT
*Our True 'Race Mode' to keep engine in the power band
*Smoother launching to prevent parts damage
*Manual 2nd gear engagement at stop for emergency situations
*20bar clutch pressures for added clutch capacity
    *Higher Line Pressure

So Awesome !! Do you do anything where the transmission is sort of "normal", but let's say you're in 6th gear and stomp on it, instead of downshifting to 5th, then 4th, then 3rd, it automatically engages the correct gear? Really awesome that you do this for your customers!!

Unfortunately, due to the way the transmission is designed it can’t skip gears. It works more like a sequential where it has to hit each gear on the way up or down.
The reason for this is the SELECTOR VALVE BODY (which is the valve body that does the shifting) was designed with only half the solenoids required to do the job. Instead of using 8 solenoids you see the valve body has 5. The 5th solenoid is called a sequencing solenoid and what it does is split the solenoid duty in half. The top half of the valve body will send fluid pressure to the solenoids to shift half the gears. Then the sequencing solenoid will move a valve that will block that side and then allow pressure to the other to operate the remaining gears. So the valve body is basically 2 parts separated by the sequencing solenoid with 4 shifting solenoids doing the work of 8. This saves space and costs, but the way it works in the GR6 gears can’t be skipped as the sequencing solenoid can’t run pressures on both halves of the valve body at the same time.

Hey Jack, I appreciate your video on your transmission upgrades. I'm especially interested in the Ecutek interface. I'm considering your Drag 800 build for my 2017 Gtr. My Rg35 is Fbo / E85 with 750X Boost Logic turbos, it has been tuned by specialty- Z with the Ecutek Pro. What is your current turn around time for the rebuilt?

Will this Ecutek ECM software tune work on Stock GTR 2014 DBA trans with FBO ?? I just switched to EcuTek from Cobb--DONT wanna damage any forks, clutches on OEM gearbox etc -->WILL this TCM tune or similar work from your Video with different touchpoints--pressure etc?? My EcuTek Tuner Sam Barros says he can do the TCM revision tune ONLY-- IF ALL SAFE-on Stock OEM Trans or does it require Jacks clutches, seals upgrade-rebuild? THX

Hi Jack, i have a little question, recently i did a stage 2 cobb on my gtr35 2015, and i notice when i brake below 1,400rpm my motor rotations drop to 900 and only then it downshifts gear, it only happens while braking... can you help? Im a bit concern about it. Sorry about my english. Thanks

can you tell me why it sometimes happens that the gear change from 2 to 3 squeaks when the gtr r35 is cold? even if it's cold, after that it's gone. and only from 2 to 3

Nothing to worry about its just the fluid needs to get warm just leave the car running for some time to heat up.
