DON'T Tune Your Nissan GT-R Transmission!

Why am I tuning the transmission on my GT-R?
I am currently running the Cobb Stage 2 ECU tune for my 2014 Nissan GT-R. The engine response is amazing with the 3in intakes and Armytrix exhaust system. The power out of the car is ridiculous!
My Cobb Accessport also has the function to tune the TCM which controls the transmission. So I installed the tune and played with a few of the transmission maps to see the differences over stock.
The biggest downfall with the stock TCM tune is that it won't shift down to 1st gear until about 3mph. That makes is very hard to roll any type of stop. Especially when needing to merge with fast traffic at an intersection. Sometimes it'll stay in 2nd gear but if you gas it too soon, it will lug the engine and you'll have no power to safety get up to speed. Or it will abruptly downshift to 1st once moving and be very jerky.
Some people don't like how soon the GT-R transmission gets into 6th gear. I honestly don't have a problem with it. If I put the transmission into Race mode, it's much more aggressive and fixes that issue anyways.
Keep in mind this video only applies to driving in Automatic mode. I drive in manual most of the time, but definitely enjoy just cruising in auto.
After testing out various tunes, I really didn't see any positive effect. It held the gears way too high and I found it annoying. When I'm cruising 40-50mph, I want the car in 6th. Not holding 4th or 5th. So I really didn't like what I found with these tunes.
The stock tune lets me go from super conservative (save), to normal (normal), and then very aggressive (race). Maybe older GT-R's don't have very different stock mapping in the TCM settings.
Some people have let me know about good maps on Cobbs website. I did try installing one on the car, but the Accessport just kept saying locked. Currently I am working with Cobb Tuning to help me get it working so I can try a different one.
I'll make an updated video once I can install the optimal TCM tune!! As of now, the stock TCM tune is great!
