CLAIRE, could you please do a show on what you use to hang your plants from on the ceiling, please??!! Also, if you would please do another video on your hanging plants and give the names, I would love that. You don’t even need to talk much about them 😂I would love to just hear their names and see them! It’s not often that we get to see all the ones above you and I just love to see them!! Very junglieeee ❤

I’m happy that someone is actually showing Peperomia as a plant in their collection. I have peperomia triangularis, peperomia obtusifolia both variegated and non variegated, peperomia orba. And I love them all, they give me fantastic leaves, require water once every 10-12 days, adore my south western exposure. 😅 But no, everyone is keen on these hoyas. Which are not very popular in my country and therefore hard to find. 😂

For the monstera dubia, you could direct the top back down the moss pole, then let it grow down, and then back up the moss pole when it gets longer again. Would make it look bushier and solve your problem of not wanting to cut it 💕

Hello Claire, I read that if plants receive a fertilizer with too much nitrogen, the variegation can disappear because the nitrogen causes the chlorophyll to be in excess. Maybe you could take advantage of this and just try to fertilize your ghost leaves. But then I would probably change the substrate

Clair you can try to water your portodora with a solution of 1 litre warm water and 6 ml pure neem oil. It works wonders for my plants that have pests and I can always see immediate results. I also use the same solution as a foliar spray as well to get better results for pests. Please do try it once before giving away your oldest plant. Also keep in mind that the neem oil solution starts rapidly losing its potency once you’ve made it so make it fresh every time you want to use it❤

Noooooo! Please keep your Allocasia - Portodora. This plant has been with you for so long. I always associate it with you. My mother in law has a desert rose and it is huge! She's had hers for a long time, it's probably 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide. We live in Michigan in the US and in the winter time it goes dormant and loses all it's leaves. Then when it gets warmer she outs it outside and it grows like crazy and flowers. Two years ago it actually gave her seed pods, which she had never seen before. I had remembered reading somewhere that after a certain age they start to give seed pods.

Oh your portadora spider mite problem breaks my heart! It's such a beautiful plant... honestly yours makes me want to get one for myself, even knowing the predilection for spider mites.
My regal shield got (and retained) purple backs to the leaves as it matured. They really are lovely, and it is hands down the fastest plant in my collection to size up. I got in August of last year as a tiny little 2 leaf thing in a plastic cup, and now it is 1.5 meters tall in a 43cm pot. I have been upsizing every time it gets rootbound (it's in pon), but I don't think I can keep up sizing it, or it will take over my living room 😂

All my Monstera, Philodrendron and Calathea die a slow and painful death from thrips, though. I've tried everything and they always get back. Kills all my Calatheas and costs me all my nerves with my pink princess e.g. that seems to literally WANT to be eaten!

🇦🇺 hi Claire, can't tell you how happy and excited I am about the p. Hope! I could only do it via air layering.
Re your portadora, could it be old age and your plant winding down?
I have some macrorrhiza variegata baby plants, whenever I get a ghost leaf I pinch it out and I seem to get variegated leaf the next time.
Sydney Plant Guy recently did just a chop on one of his moss pole plants, he cut a chunk out to separate the nodes but left it in the moss pole.

What I have learned over the years and years of growing plants ( God I sound sooo old!🙈🙈) is that variegation is so random and unpredictable that it's worth keeping plants even with very low variegation. Because eventually they will throw variegated leaves out of nowhere, and when you least expect it 😊

    My top 3,
My Monstera Deliciosa has finally this week pushed out its next top
Leaf after waiting 12 months, it was horrendously root bound, I upgraded its pot about 3 months ago and switched it to pon and I’ve had 4 new leafs over the last 2 months, there are like 4 stems in the pot so all 4 plants are sizing up I’m exited because I’ve been awaiting the extra INNER fenestration, the last two top leafs from a year ago had begun with one tiny hole and one with two tiny holes , this new leaf looks like it only has one inner fenestration as well, but I’m just glad it’s finally back in high gear, hopefully start to really size up now it’s happy again and with more light in the day as we approach spring.
Then my bird of paradise again bought these in winter, transitioned to pon and had no new growth for about 3 months so very dormant despite maximum light and south facing with skylights above them and big patio doors, just wasn’t bright enough but they have began to switch on with new leaves coming.
And I guess I’m most excited about my three Alocasia, all in pon bar one which I’m transitioning to pon tomorrow, all all pushing out new leafs my wentii similar to your Regal shield has a new big leaf, my dragon scale has grown a new leaf yet but seems happy, only had it a month, and I switched it to pon managed to get a little baby from it and I’ve potted that up, and have what I think is a purple sword that just loves the pon, and is doing well. It definitely is an exciting and lots happening kind of month especially these last two weeks.
I’ve struggled with my Philodendron Melanochrysum, fairly new had 4-6 weeks but last two new leafs are just coming out funny and the stalk is always deformed despite the lower part of the plant being fine, I think it pulls away from the stalk too low down and it makes the leaf stem kink as it pushes out from the bottom before the top,if that makes sense, could be due to humidity which is 50-60 at the moment. I killed my dessert rose, but with every new set of leafs you get flowers so I suspect yours will flower soon.
I’m new to being a serious plant owner Brenda plant owner for a while but never as a proper hobby until, now. Love your videos, I’ve learnt so much.
Also I watch another TH-camr, can’t remember her channel name just now, but she dusts her plants of spider mites 😂 she said she has given up trying to prevent them on certain plants she has and she just dusts them off and that seems to keep the damage very low, she’s just given up preventing them, she is very successful with her plants, you have no doubt come across her channel.

the variegated fridek, the bigger one looks so mint colored, not sure if it is like that in person as well. but if it is than it might be able to live like that. I think I already wrote last time you talked about them. I have 2 corms, one is completely white, has grown like 3 completely white leaves now, all very tiny. the other one seems to do better, the first was 95% white, then I had a nice one, then a completely white, then a half moon and it´s pushing another one that seems to have some green on it.
Unfortunately I don´t thin there is anything that can be done at that stage, just try to keep them alive as log as possible to give them the best change on producíng green eventually.
If they are still alive for plant swap I would take some and just give them away, there is always the change of a miracle :D

Desert roses do go dormant. Mine are just starting to wake up. You’ll love it when it finally gives you a bloom!
In my world, I just recently went down the Hoya rabbit hole in early December. I didn’t want to get started on owning any because I feel like I don’t have a place for viney plants…then I smelled a bloom while I was at my favorite mom & pop owned greenhouses and now I’m hooked. 😂 oh well…
Other than that I’m trying to just stay on top of maintaining my collection. My husband is having a plant swap at his work in April so luckily I am always propagating something. I need to get involved in more plant swaps in my area. I’m in the U.S.

    Hi,
Any tips how to stop monstera adansonii from having ‘burned leaves. New shoots already have burned ( brown) unfurled leaves and I don’t know what to do. I bought it like that hoping to recover it but so far no luck😔😔😔. It is in indirect sunlight. Do I change soil, give different feed…… any thoughts and tips re welcome. Thank you

Are the portadoras you gave away from yours having the same problems? I thought you said you gave them to friends. Just curious. She is gorgeous but what a pain!

Hello Claire! I have had a desert rose for a year now and still haven't figured it out, has I get 3 or 4 new leaves a loose 3 or 4 of the older ones. I know it doesn't like to get too dry. I have been using distilled water in the last month it seems to like it better. If anyone have tips regarding this plant it would be great😊🥀 (I'm in 🇨🇦)

Not an expert, but my experience is similar with the dropping leaves, but I almost think that is normal in the winter, anyway. I had one I thought was a goner, as it lost ALL its leaves, but then it has just started spontaneously pushed out a bunch of leaves. My understanding is that the stem only thickens if it experiences some drought, too. Not sure any of that was helpful, but thought I’d just share the struggle! 😂

Just spitballing here, but I wonder if we can hinder a plant’s natural defenses by over treating for pests. Sort of like how a kid who is too clean gets sick more often than the other kids.. 🤔

Tip. Just a thought. You may think I'm nuts but here goes.
Stop feeding them so much.... At least for awhile.
I don't feed my plants bc I don't have the space.
I have commented before. I have grown plants for 50 years. Nothing exotic, just big box stores.
The plants grow and are fine.
Something for you to think about.

Just started watching and I'm already so excited - I just got a Peperomia Hope at my local shop!!!! I think I must have subconsciously remembered you mentioning it when I was half listening to the upload this morning.😆 I was looking for a Peperomia Angulata, but the Hope was the only Peperomia they had. I'm so glad you like it. It's such a cutey. Looking forward to the updates! 🪴
