I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm by myself but enjoy talking to others about all things planty. That said, I loved your video, I got a lot of things done in my home. I laughed quite a few times during the video because your ADHD and getting jump started even to do something that we love to do is something I'm very familiar with. It was helpful and hopeful.

It's frustrating, isn't it, when we get into functional paralysis? I've found kindness helps so much, as well as breaking tasks into smaller parts, and starting with something very small or exciting. I've also found paralysis comes along more frequently when I haven't been mindful of my energy reserves. It sounds like you already had lots of things done today, is it possible your senses got overwhelmed? It might help to incorporate little breaks after doing tasks. Even things I love can take it out of me, such as going for a walk. My hypersensitivity can be exhausting. Listen, if videos take you two days to make, they take two days. There is no point in comparing yourself with others, or even your past self. You're a very hard worker, Claire!
I went to therapy yesterday, for the fourth consecutive week, and it made me very proud. I hated it and didn't want to go, and even had a panic attack. Thinking about how it would do me so much good in the long run, and that doing this very hard thing now would be the kindest thing to do for my future self, made me able to get showered, dressed, and on time for my session. I still feel like absolute shit, but I can make progress while feeling shitty.
P.S. It absolutely does matter if the procrastination is due to ADHD, whomever is telling you it isn't, is wrong. It also has nothing to do with a lack of accountability. Our brains just work differently, and forcing yourself to be like other people will hinder you and hurt you in the long run.

This is all so true and so lovely of you to say. Well done for your 4 weeks so far, that's huge! The paralysis is ridiculously frustrating when it happens, but it's so comforting to know it happens to many of us, and that it's ok 💚

    • @pinstripesuitandheels
      @pinstripesuitandheels 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

@@TheJungleHaven It is absolutely ok, Claire. And it's absolutely not your fault. I know that us people with ADHD generally feel like everything is our fault and our responsibility, and when we do something right, we tend to ascribe our success to something or someone else.
You're doing really well, hopefully your subscribers here can help you get through this.

I know there is a lot of para social relationship in the creater-viewer relationship but in context to ADHD it is immensely helpful to see someone describing their struggles very relatably. Even you talking about this can also help others vocalize their "trivial" daily struggles ❤

    • @jpgypsyxo
      @jpgypsyxo 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I agree with all of this!! I’ve learned to stop comparing myself because while there are things other people do that I wish I could, I realized there are plenty of things that I can do more effectively or better than others.
For me, it comes when I have the most things to do. It’s like I get in these moods of such positivity and my ideas start flowing so I make a list. I get all excited to start my list because I know it will be so rewarding once it’s done and I’ll be able to move forward. The next morning comes and as I look at my list, I feel so overwhelmed and have no idea where to start.
Ever since I got on TH-cam and found my fav creators, I’ve been able to accomplish so much more with the support of these channels. Keep it up Claire! You are so special to so many! We love you. ❤

body doubling - it's like we want someone there to prove we are being accountable to. big ADHD thing. i always have to make my music in a cafe where other people are out and about and I looked up why that is and that's how i found out about body doubling strategy!! it really helps to have the tv on, listen to podcasts or invite someone over or run separate errands together LOL!

Why don’t you graft pieces of your Euphorbia white ghost? You can buy a cheap generic Euphorbia like a trigona, chop it into individual cuttings, root them, wait till they start actively growing, and then graft pieces of your white ghost onto them. That way you can prop it super fast and it will grow considerably faster than on its own root. Over time you can chop them off and reroot them on their own roots.

If this helps: when I had a cat I bought cats pride flushable litter. I would scoop the box next to the toilet every time I went pee. The box never smelled and I dumped it and re freshed every three days because it didn’t stink it was easy. I kept the box next to the toilet and everything under the bath sink. I struggled with this too. And this is what changed it for me.

Doing well here Claire, thanks for asking😊. I'm so excited to see my plants growing again with spring here in Canada. I received my very first imported plants from Equagenera - that has been a big learning curve to transition them (a bit nerve wracking!). Most are doing fine now and starting to put out new leaves. I'm still struggling with my Queen anthurium whom I finally potted and then she took a dive :( Also having a hard time getting my P. esmeraldense to root but I think I see the very start of some root nubs. I'm so hopeful that these two eventually make it as they are both such beauties. :) Btw I can totally relate to the occasional "overwhelm" feeling it this week as well🪴

Well, thanks for asking us, Claire! I enjoy your channel so much! Since I´m watching you my love for plants and plant chores has been renewed. These days you can watch me scanning my houseplants for things to do, or to rearrange, or to repot, or any other ideas of finding space for MORE plants! Because every windowsill is full of them, and I scratch my head to really find ways to include this or that to my existing stock. The limit is the natural light. And no, I don´t want grow lights.
I have a big aquarium as well, thats enough energy spent on planty, fishy things.
Only last week I found out how really soothing it is to work with my plants. Since it was getting so really cold outside I had to postpone my gardening plans, and I took to the indoor greenery with a happiness I did not feel in years.
It is calming and grounding me.
Thanks a real lot for spiking the old fire again, I´m so grateful! I like your ideas, and your humour, and the easy way of spreading knowledge of and respect for this living greens!

And oh, by the way - plants are forgiving. It´s your perspective that can be altered. So you don´t put too much pressure on yourself. Remember: you don´t have to be perfect. You are not going to lose your subscribers if you loosen up a bit... in fact, speaking for myself: I like it even more when not everything is super top perfect! Everybody has that one plant that´s forgotten, or somehow beneath your radar... it´s human, it´s not intentional, it´s okay.

Well done, Claire! I know how hard it can be to start on a to do list. Most of my plants are in LECA and I was supposed to flush them and wash the pots and leaves in the beginning of the month but I kept making excuses and putting it off! I told myself today that I have to do it and when I’m done I can watch a planty video as a reward. I got halfway through it because some of the pots need to be rinsed with H2O2 because of algae, so I made another excuse that that’s a whole different task and I’ll do it later today. So, for finishing half of my tasks, I got to watch your video and it totally resonated with me. Thank you for speaking about this! 🫶🌱🫶

I’ve been retired for 2 years now and divide my year between my home base here in Los Angeles and Toronto, Canada to keep my elderly mom company half of the year . I have started a small indoor plant collection there too. Mom is currently looking after the plants I have collected during my stay there, while I am here reviving my indoor plants that I had my daughter looked after while I was away…needless to say I came home to many empty pots and wrinkly foliage . My outdoor succulents were no issue other than they needed pruning .
Your videos have inspired me to do plant propagation and be more diligent with checking for infestation.
Ive been able to do plant swap with a friend who is very generous with giving me her propagations of Hoyas that have thrived, so now I’ve grown a new appreciation for these plants.
Thank you for continuing to share your plant care journey!

I have ADHD and have recently felt myself slipping from a plant hyperfocus to a state where plant care seems like more of a chore. Its difficult because i love my plant babies but the big sit is real! I think im trying to be kind to myself and acknowledge that actually, our plants are very lucky to have us to care for them (even when we are having a moment where motivation is harder to come by!). Sometimes just sitting with my plants, with no pressure to do any active 'chores', and giving myself a chance to admire their beauty & any new growth helps too.

Claire, I LOVE long form videos, but I would also like to see how you care for the plants that are freshly potted up from moss or water propagated to whatever substrate you choose. Like, does it need more water? Keep moist? Special lighting?

I adore you! Thanks for sharing your feelings because I’ve been in a bit of a funk and super procrastinating with plant chores. It’s like - I know it’ll make me happy when I get into it, but sometimes it is just hard to start.
Also, I wish all labels peeled off that easy haha!! So rewarding!!

I’m usually doing mine along with you.
And wow, that 🐙 was ♥️ly.
I’m the same way about colorful plants but maybe Ross is on to something. Perhaps a fun room would be perfect for house bossy plants that would otherwise stress me out for some weird reason.

the way i keep track of plant things, is i just go around with a sheet of paper to every plant n write down what i have to do (about once a month?). then i go down the list n do the "this plant needs this now" things like pest treatment, for example. the less urgent things, i just do casually when i have time or when i'm taking work breaks or when i'm having morning coffee. sometimes it takes me weeks to get to but the important thing is that i keep the list going. i can just come back to those little tasks when i feel like it....
i also keep my props, struggle/sensitive plants, and a jar of water by the window next to my couch where i have coffee in the mornings. that way, if i have to do any watering or care, its all in one place where i'm going to end up everyday anyway.
hope that helps! really enjoying the chatty video :)

    Easy hoya trellis;=wire hanger!
I cut the hook part off, untwist, and bend into a circular or whatever shape.
I have a few hoyas like this, and they are huge and totally covering the hanger now! 💚

Hi Claire! I’m feeling a bit drained and overwhelmed with plants right now. I’m in the process of moving and have about 150 plants. I know a lot have to be up-potted. And the adjustment to the new place. Any tips?

Do your best to acclimate them slowly. Try to keep their lighting/heat/humidity (overall conditions) as similar as possible to your old place as they settle in. I really hope the move goes well!

I think I speak for most of us when I say, you have made this such a safe space for all of us plant people that we welcome your venting it’s the healthiest thing you can do for yourself 🫶🏼 I just picked up an Anthurium King Veitchii because I saw yours and it’s gorgeous, and I also got a Hoya Caudata Sumatra in today. I’m so excited about them. I think I’ve mastered Alocasia and Philodendrons, Orchids and Pothos! I’m ready for more lol

I've just gotten into alocasia. I have a Melo, a Jacklyn, and a Dragon Scale. Both my Jackie and Dragon scale are giving me new leaves right now. I transplanted the Melo from coconut coir to LECA and so far it's doing AMAZING!!! If Melo does good, I'll transplant Jackie into LECA as well.
I love watching your videos. You have a personality that makes me feel like I've known you my whole life lol. Also, you're showing me plants I never knew existed. Thanks for being so cool!!

Side note, you said you wanted new plants but that would add more work. What if you got a few new plants in types that are new to you, and keep them just for you. No need to focus on them except for your own personal enjoyment. You said you were succulent curious!

2024 is definitely a Begonia year for me. Wierd that I never cared about them much let alone having one to care for. I rescued a common one last year from a big box shop for a $1. It is thriving and it kind of did something to me. I have purchased 5 of them this year. I guess that means I like them now 😊

Can relate to the struggle 💗 I’m potting up my Anthurium superbum with you and who knows what else. I can’t sit and watch you do plant chores without doing something too so thanks for motivating me. Love Ross’ Octopus! Update: also potted my Epi albo, got my Florida ghost on a pole, installed a pole on my back porch for hanging plants and chopped back and treated my mistletoe cactus for mealies. Very productive! #BetterTogether 🎉

I bought a Monstera Albo node and was able to pot it up a couple of months ago. The growth was nice, but really compact. I felt like it was "playing small" due to the planter size. Something in me just said to pot it up and I knew it'd be a little sooner than I would otherwise. But, it has been so happy since repotting and is pushing out a new leaf. I definitely get it.

Hi Claire I wasn’t sure where to post this so I thought here would be better than nowhere. I was wondering if you hadn’t already posted this, if you could possibly make a video? I have got a really small Philodendron marble Pink Princess, although I have looked around, I’m unable to find any in depth information on how you know when this and similar plants are ready for a moss pole, what to look for and where, how old the plant is when it’s beginning to push out these roots ect so you know its ready to go onto a moss pole. I’ve seen how to attach a moss pole ect but nothing regarding really immature plants when you are wanting it to go onto a moss pole and when the correct time for this? I would be really grateful if you could possibly do this as I know I would definitely benefit knowing what I have mentioned above and I’m sure others would benefit too,
Elaine from Rotherham South Yorkshire x

The ludisia is much easier to grow than the mercodes. As well as easy to propagate. You will want to let it callous for about an hour or so, or wait 24-48 hours before you water after you propagate. You can actually chop and prop back into the same pot it is in. You can use your anthurium mix, moss or a soil mixture with bark and perlite. They can handle lower bright light, similar to Sansavera. The blooms are not as interesting as the foliage. Once she is happy she will grow “fast”. You can also put the bare part of the stem intothe soil to propagate if you see nodes. (Similar to Hoya)❤

I am now realizing I have ADHD, and honestly, the way you explained your problems, are exactly the way I feel. I go to the Dr. next week to see about my shoulder, and am going to ask him, if there is anything he can recommend to help me out. I really don't like living this way. I love my plants in the house, thankfully that really helps me. But I also have 4 pet sheep and chickens and Guinea Fowl, for their eggs. WE have had laying hens for years, but I found after I ate a Guinea egg, I can eat and enjoy eggs again. Maybe I am allergic to eggs? Also have Tiny Modern Game Bantams, and would like to go out and work with these things, but I just can't bring myself, lately to do it. Thankfully my husband cares for them for me right now. But after listening to you, I realize I need to really look into this. Thank You so much for talking about this. Because, I feel I'm lazy and I have never been a lazy person. So time to get on with this! THANK YOU.
