I have liked her music since I found her in the 2015 Chopin Competition and no change has happened in my mind. The only change is her hair having gotten way longer since the competition!
Sei bravissima, veramente.
@@0Ensis0 I have no inside information on Kate Liu, but like you and many others, I don’t understand why she still hasn’t been offered recordings with a major record label. Aimi Kobayashi, Charles Richard-Hamelin, Eric Lu, and of course Seong-Jin Cho, are all making recordings. In fact, Aimi Kobayashi’s recording of Chopin’s Préludes was released on Warner before this year’s Chopin Competition. All these young pianists are extremely gifted, and it’s great that they have an opportunity to record, make videos, and receive the extra boost a record deal with a big label can provide. But Kate Liu has something absolutely unique to offer. Anyone who is remotely sensitive to classical music can sense it immediately. Her voice is like no one else’s. And I don’t say that lightly. Do you receive those ads from DG on TH-cam promoting their “new artists” recordings? I often have no clue who they are, and I ask myself, “You mean to tell me that these people, who are less well known, have a better chance at a successful and sustained recording career than someone like a Kate Liu?” I don’t believe it. There’s lots more to say on all this, but I’ll stop. Just like you, I’m frustrated that Kate Liu isn’t better known. But I still believe that her talent will prevail in the end. Sometimes we have to wait longer to savor the finest wines. 🍷🙋🏻♀️🍷
@@marshallartz395 I think it's because she's a bit shy. Plus, she got injuried for months. Just look at her lack of social media activity, that's not what recording labels are looking for, sadly.
@@marshallartz395 The fact that you don’t know WHO the artist because you haven’t heard of them is neither here nor there. Many people would have heard who Lang Lang is but have no idea who Andrea’s Schiff is. Also the fact that they are not well known doesn’t mean anything. I have heard a few pianists who are not famous at all , but I would kill to go and hear their recital anywhere.
I came here to hear the second ballade and I must say that this is only recording besides Glenn Gould's that I enjoyed! Really nicely and calmly play:)
she's so close with the music, beyond the score and the instrument. Anyway, the voice of Fazioli is in my opinion the best one, not staynway nor bose can't match it... thanks for sharing Paolo from Italy
Intense playing and a wider dynamic range than I've ever heard on YT! No. 4 is too slow for my liking and the middle section gets much too loud (Brahms asks for nothing above mp here!), and there are one or two slips in the first two pieces, but never mind; this is real music making rather than just piano playing. I wish I'd been there. Definitely a young pianist to follow. Thanks for posting.
I like Kate and have listened to other performances of hers. But isn't she playing at an unusually slow tempo? I found myself a little impatient, but maybe it's because it is late and I need to get to bed?
Kate Liu is a piano goddess in my world. However Brahms is not her specialty. She plays it very well, I find, but she is so much better in pieces that are less "gothic".

just unbelievable how the entire scope of human emotion can be captured in such a way
so transcendent, profound...like I am being born again
Kate Liu is geweldig.

Great performance
How new and refreshing... It is hard to believe that Kate found something so inspiring in these pieces... Incredible performance...
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

The FAZIOLI is a great, great piano. Angela Hewett won’t play on any other make except her FAZIOLI. KATE deserves such a jewel.

Splendide.
Amazing performance!
Deep and true music
On the final chord she adds a low B to give it more finality, and I can’t help but get goosebumps
Michelangeli did so too. It's a mistake anyway.
Fantastic performance, perfect!

Yes, a kind of SM, between her and her teacher.
She's underrated, more than any other Chopin contest winner.
@@marshallartz395 I love her. It seems like u got some good news, can u share them with us? :)

She seems to feel every note on the score. Such a touching play.

wonderful interpretation
Every note is so closely connected to the former ! She is not playing a score, she is reciting a poem, a marvellous poem said in a marvellous way
What an expansive mind... she is perfectly suited for these pieces. I love her artistic choices.

So courageous. Those "ppp"'s. A whisper.
At last, at last, alas, someone coming who understands what is a ppp

When she playes i always forget to be critical and get absorbed by the music. Sometimes it sounds like she has huge hands!
I find her a bit too introverted in this execution, but when to it comes down to Liu, you never know whether one is totally off and she is a genius
Today 23 Msy is her birthday.Anyone knows how is she doing? Any new videos & concerts?
If that guy who coughed in her face from the first row had a cold, she caught it. Rude.

Wonder if Brahms composed this thinking of Clara S.
"What else" ??????????????
What I see here is that she is playing the piano with her teacher together.
