That first b-flat wasn't given a hint of an accent or emphasized like how most pianists play it, instead, she played, what sounds like, a diminuendo from pianissimo. Wow. In terms of musicality, this is one of the best recordings I've ever heard ngl

I agree with you 100%...! Her next big step is in learning... when to breathe. The control of the breath means being able to close and/or open the entire aura with the composers intensions. Highly intuitive lesson. Intuition and prayer and then self-evaluation are always necessary. Don't you think?

I have listened to so many performances of this Ballad in my life, and each performance is always unique. Whoever plays it. What Kate presents to us here is extremely lived through and in an incredibly beautiful balance. She shows us Chopin's heart and doesn't use it by turning it into her own show. The tempo was well-chosen; given Chopin specialised in packing the emotions of a lifetime into miniature forms, a slower-than-usual tempo allows us to better appreciate the monumental nature of the work, for longer.
