🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

Middle East = not safe
"People are not their governments, people are people." Nailed it.
That was his observation that stopped me for a moment. I lived in China for 18 years and left there recently with a deep dislike of their government, I find it difficult these days explaining to Australians how much I loved the people I mixed with in my daily life, the populace of countries with 'bully' regimes are not an indication of the person you meet in the street or restaurant. Nicely put Sunny.
Actually if you think about it, the people have more power than the government.
It's just that the government have bias views of those who can be allowed to have firearms.
If the people can be armed then they will have power then they can take over the capital once again.
For example, one common bias is that women are weak (despite many being very strong)... and that Asians have small pp (despite many having big pp)
man as an American I love Iranian food, I remember when I was kind of homeless for a while in South Korea, I had a friend there from Iran because his parents were refugees at that time before they became South Korean Citizens and I would used to stay at this friends house, his mom would wake up early everyday and just cook, it was some of the best food ive ever ate, this brought so much memories back
Yeah it's awesome to meet people from different countries and realise that we aren't all that different

As I read more and more comments, I can't help but notice that compliments are being made back and forth between Iranians and US citizens. It doesnt matter that their politicians are at each others throats, I just see loving peoole reaching out to each other. And I find that both beautiful and inspiring. I lived in Teheran Iran in 1976-1978. Absolutely LOVED the country. In my families 3 years there, we explored most of the country. Watching your experiences brings back a LOT of memories. That said, the country has seriously modernized from what it was back in the 1970s. Seeing the food, as well as all the other stores shown in passing, stirs my soul... Excellent video full of lots and lots of memories! You missed one key form of bread Barbari Bread is one of the staples. Most Americans and Europeans absolutely LOVED Barbari Bread. That's a bread in long, relatively thin loaves, with the bread itself about an inch thick after baking. Cooked much the same way in one of the large open ovens.
You nailed it ❤

I wouldn't visit as a Westener now though beacuse of the government. Here in Sweden we just got back two of our citizens that were taken hostage while visiting Iran. One of them was held in prison for years and was about to be sentenced to death for ''spreading corruption on earth'' (The Iranian government didn't specify what that means) the Swedish government had to negotiate a prisoner exchange by releasing a convicted war criminal and genocide perpetrator. So if you go to Iran you may just become a political bargaining chip for the Iranian government.
Iran is one of the most incredible countries I've ever visited! Thank you for showing the real people of Iran so accurately, and not what their or other governments try to portray. Such a beautiful culture and country with incredible history and warmth, but so misportrayed and so tortured over these past few decades. Incredible respect for this channel!
Nina Cee I love what I see on this video.
Please if I want to visit Iran for any kind of holidays. Any link for the traveling procedures and protocols?
Misportrayed how?
Indeed Iran is a good country .but tbh they are so racist against poor countries and humiliate them .they are mostly( I said mostly not all) kind to people with wealth or from better countries .
Ps: I've been in Iran for years so I know them well.
@@andywalliant3189 Iranian people consistently rank as some of the friendliest and warmest people who place huge respect on foreigners, I've worked and lived there on and off all over the country for decades In fact, most for my western friends live there still despite the government change because of the people's openness. Sounds like you encountered people who work for the regime based on the experience you give if that was common enough of an encounter for you, because that is the only time whether you are Iranian or foreign that you are guaranteed to encounter hate as they are racist even towards Iranian people as they see themselves as Muslim and not iranian. They are the complete opposite and at conflict with the rest of society there... Which is exactly the point of my comment about their misportrayals from their own government. It's a very complex society and if you've been unlucky enough to encounter the government associated people then you really have not experienced actual Iranian society enough to warrant forming a genuine view of them.

It is so good to see this video. My daughter's life was saved by Iranian American doctor when she was born premature. Without him, she would not be with us today. It was interesting to see him and his assistant talking in Farsi while delivering my baby. People are not their government. I had an Iranian college friend in California. She was so nice.

I feel so blessed to have been included and let in to their homes and welcomed with open arms! Treated truly like family!!!!
Their government is okay too. If not, Iranians wouldn't vote for them over and over even though they knew they would be sanctioned forever. Maybe there is something wrong with the current American government instead of the current Iranian government.
@@udasan There is A LOT wrong with the current American govt!! Our core values in our Constitution are awesome... it's the politics and bureaucrats that ruin it all. And make a mockery of what this nation was meant to be.

From a fellow American thank you for a wonderful episode. My wife and I lived and worked for a few years in the Middle East, on the other side of the water from Iran. We knew all Iranians as wonderful friendly and articulate people and of course amazing craftsman and women. Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to visit when we were there but you made it a little bit easier because he went to Esfahan location where we plan to go before we ended up coming back to the US. Thanks again for a quality show, you never disappoint
A good person like you see all good tnx 👏💙🇮🇷
I absolutely LOVED this whole video!! I have always wanted to go to Iran, as I love the Middle East and lived there for many years. It was just near impossible for Americans to go to Iran 20 yrs ago when I was in the region.
This was such a beautiful, real life view of such an amazing culture and people...and you are HILARIOUS!! The three fingers and your face had me cracking up laughing...omg...🤣
Thank you for making such wonderful travel videos!! It is so nice to see the world again at a time when I am not free to travel anymore...🙏❤️🤗🌍💫
I’m originally Persian and I was also kept watching the whole video. I miss Iran much😢 damn politicians

have you tried Iranian food?
We love you too🇮🇷❤🇦🇲
I love how they look at him while he tastes the dishes waiting for him to say what he thought of them. Food is one of the most important components of any cultures and sharing that is such an amazing experience.
Shia? 😲👍
Having traveled to Iran three times in the last five years after retirement (and ending up staying much longer than planned on each trip lol) I cannot add a whole heck of a lot to what's been said already by countless others here. Except noticing how clean they and their cities are compared to other countries of the region... especially after watching the Cairo video! The subway in Tehran simply stands out. Iran definitely deserves another video (or two) considering that some of its prettiest regions and cities were skipped altogether. Don't blame Sonny at all... there are just soooo many cities and subcultures there. It's like dozens of countries and cultures merged into one 😍🥰🤤
Excellent work Sonny... I can see Bourdain smiling.
You are a badass Wade!
Every single episode of this series I see, my world expands. I want to go to Uzbekistan, I want to go to Nigeria, I want to go to Iran. The people living in these different places and their culture is so incredibly amazing. All of these people are just normal people living their lives, dating, partying, cooking, dancing, singing.. I've actually been in tears so many times watching this show. It males me so happy and sad at the same time. All these governments and sick leaders, all the misinformation, alienation and stereotypes some try to push. People are just people. We're all human. I'm deeply moved and I did not expect it! Love and peace from Norway. ❤
Sonny man, if it weren’t for you, I’d be completely oblivious, you’re pretty much the only good experience show I watch, and the info is amazing, you make me wanna visit every country you did. 😍😍😍 Iran, who knew?! With all the war crap with the States, you don’t get to hear much about the people and culture. This is a real treat Sonny, thanks man!

Wow wouldn’t have believed if I didn’t see it but Iranians seem like extremely warm hearted people. This country and its food and people are all quite beautiful. You can feel the culture is 1000s of years old.

I absolutely loved watching this series, the people are so beautiful and warm. I'm not sure I would try all the food but enjoyed your willingness to try everything. I'm from Australia but like everyone we think of Iran as a war torn country because of the journalism we see. Thankyou for showing us what life there is really like.
This was our introduction to your show as my wife is from Iran. It made for so many great conversations and became such an integral part of my continued understanding of Persian cultures and food.
Does she cook for you? Those Iranian dishes look amazing.
@@american_cosmic she does occasionally. I’m pretty spoiled. Every time we visit her family in Vegas we enjoy all sorts of Persian foods and love going to “Tehrangeles”.

Just finished watching the Egypt episodes. This video open eyes and perspectives in a positive way of how to look at Iran far from the media. This is just joyful to watch and educational at the same time. What a beautiful country despite all the sanctions and restrictions the only thing that got bad in Iran is the inflation not the behavior of people.
@@ABCD-xg6nr well, Iran had been through many sanctions far before egyptian revolution, so they have habituated with difficulties, they are well experienced on this so they can handle the mess.

Man, Anthony Bourdain would be so proud of this show and what you are doing. In so many ways, this reminds me fondly of Places Unknown and the whole editing process and production feels like that high level Food Channel production.
Well done on all the work that you all do!
I'd say its better production value and more true to life. Food Channel edits too much content and hobbles too much together. I really enjoy how Places Unknown was put together with Bourdain's amazing monologues he's a fantastic writer.
This makes me want to go to Iran so badly. Weirdly enough, I have never considered it as a travel destination but I do now!
You should. It's a beautiful country and the food is delicious!
I wish more people would realize this and wish we had more tourists here. Iran has a lot of potential to be a popular tourist site but is unfortunately still unknown to a lot of people around the world. Hope things get better in the future.
And also you're always welcome to visit :)

What a wonderful episode. We need to embrace our inner foodie and dismiss politics. I used to visit Iran often before the revolution, and enjoyed being in such a wonderful culture. Nothing is perfect, put politics aside, and enjoy the wonderful food and hospitality of the Iranian/Persian people.
Thanks. People can’t seem to stop with their baseless opinions. It’s a food review video. It’s like why watch him. He goes to all foreign countries. People are running out of places to complain

The way The BEFRS team, from Will, aka "Sonny" all the way down the line shows respectfulness and clearly try to portray each culture properly is pretty awesome! You can see that he clearly wants to learn, loves what hes doing, and the production is second to none! I hope soon that he goes back overseas and they keep up the amazing work. I used to work for Anthony Bordain, and when he started the tv show traveling , and showing different cultures I fellin love with this style of media. Sonny isnt Anthony, but hes the 2.0 version with the production value being turned up to 11. Thank you for what you guys do!

I love your videos, Sonny. However, I'm busy today and needed to eat a quick lunch and get back to work. I ended up sitting here for 2 hours, enjoying your trip to Iran. I have to say, this was the most beautiful video I've seen of yours. Your humbleness and heartfelt gratitude beams through. 5 stars, man!!
I'm highly impressed, though I'm not at all surprised . Your production team is incredible, as well. Kudos to you all!!
Am a kenyan, since I came across this channel I love how each country are rooted to their culture and can't wait to tour this beautiful places 🌎
First Sonny let me say THANK YOU! I an a retired Navy and retired Dept. of Homeland Security law enforcement officer and have traveled all over the world. Places we were told to be careful and don't trust the people were usually wrong, except those that were trying to do harm to the U.S. and her interests. I've been to many dangerous places, but one thing "I" did was be aware of my surroundings and keep an open mind! Iran I met many wonderful people and that was typical of a lot of areas I was detailed to. I was raised to not see color, do unto others as you would have done onto you, keep an open mind and always remember to help those that need help. I was third generation Navy and served to protect my country and our citizens. BUT, thank God that did not deter me or change my mind on how I was raised. To this day I wish more people would open their eyes to what is real and true. Thank you I feel and think this was one of your BEST episodes yet! Keep it up your a trip and I always enjoy you and where you go!
What is US interests ? This show is not about US politics otherwise nobody would watch it

Over 2 hours long and felt like it went so fast ! Hats off and very well done. This was so nice to see another side of Iran you don't see normally.
Oh my God. This was SO interesting. Iran is definitely a hidden gem to be discovered. They have such a huge variety of cuisine and looks super delicious. The land of the ancient Persians!
56:16 Doogh is not Turkish. Its made with yogurt and has been around for thousands of years. When the ancient greeks came to this part of the world they wrote about this drink and incorporated yogurt into their diet. Turks are relatively new to the area. Its definitely a Kurdish and Persian drink.
Turks brought yogurt to West Asia, it is originally Central Asian.
@sedakaranfil983 🤣🤣 yogurt was being eaten before turks even existed. 3,000 years before turkies even went to the middle east.

I’m an Aussie, my 3 cousins are all married to Iranian men, my sister is engaged to an Iranian man, I have grown up all my life with Muslim friends and they and their families are the most beautiful and hospitable people on the planet, never believe everything you hear from the fake media, their culture and food are something to be experienced, you never leave their homes hungry and that’s a good thing cos once you try the food you can’t get enough of it. Please don't use the term "fake media". It is a propaganda term used by dictators and wannabe dictators (*cough* Trump) to discredit critical reporting in the news media. It is up to each and every person to have enough media sophistication to know if what they see on the news is truthful reporting or opinions and that what makes the news are the actions of a few and usually powerful individuals trying to gain power or money or both.
You wouldn't want the news to be showing everyday people in a distant country going to work, meeting friends, and eating good home cooked food. Yet that is the reality for 99.9999999% of the global population. That's what documentaries, movies, and TH-cam are for.
We need to finally realize that and act accordingly instead of taking the easy route and blaming "the media" for our own biased and racist views. Read and watch media from different countries, don't get your news always from the same sources, learn a language, and travel.
I am disabled, with a weak immune system I can't travel - but your team's efforts let me see all around the world anyway - in places I couldn't get to even if I could travel. Thank you

This channel name really became true. I absolutely love this show and how it allows people to experience so many different cultures that we would never see anywhere else. As an American with Asian and European descent, it is amazing to learn about different cultures and see my cultures similarities and differences to theirs.
What a lovely culture with a truly long history. The people are just incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food may be different from what we are used to in Texas but most of it was developed centuries ago and looks awesome.
