I just got Shuna's Journey last week. Though I find the layout to be very simplistic, it might be the break I need from the other books and games that I have.
Always remember: simple does not always = simplistic! 😎 But yes, the story is kept 'simple' and straightforward, which at this short length is important.
Yes. Mononoke came a bit later (1997) but there are definitely strong similarities. Knowing Nausicaa and Shuna, you can see the evolution. Which is ofc why I had the Collector's Edition of Mononoke on the sofa. 😎

I see more similarities to Princess Mononoke. The animal looks exactly like Yakul and the guy looks like the prince.
